Wonderful article. It takes me back to when my older brother was so protective of me. I had seven brothers and sisters and although we had our own occassional spats, God help anyone who tried to harm one of us---the others all became formidable foes. Thanks for a beautiful article. Sandra.

Just observations to rivalry. I have noticed rivalry has no definative age. Example: I have an elderly 94 year old and an 80 year old living with me. They both contend for attention. My little nephew has a new sister. He is 1.5 and already he is upset because his empire has been split in half. I like your writing though, keep it up. best Wishes.

Yes, I agree, sibling rivalry can strike at any age....it is nice when it can be resolved without  much tension and division, but understanding and love.

Beckie, My oldest son is just like your Nick. He was highly nurturing and protective from a very early age. I used to wheel him in his stroller, and he would sit with his little sister on his lap, holding her warmly. People always stopped and commented! Once, I was watching the two of them walking their bikes up the driveway on their way home from school. They were arguing. His sister fell over and he rushed to her side, picked her up, made sure she was alright, took her back to the storage area, then they picked up the argument right where they'd left off. I could fill a book with all the wonderful ways he's looked out for and led his younger siblings, including flying his younger brother interstate to stay with him every year. He is now an adult with a lovely wife and a beautiful son and he is an amazing husband and father - just as I knew he would be. This is indeed a lovely tribute to a wonderful son. Good job on your parenting because that plays a part too. Hannah
Beckie: (113 days 14 hours ago.)

Hi Becky, the truth is hard to swallow, but it is a great reminder. It's true that our sin separates us from God- I have that Isaiah passage highlighted in my Bible. I would only add that many times depending on the offense, we cannot make peace in our horizontal relationships until we have fellowship with God. I believe Scripture gives us the balance. It's when we pretend everything is okay and we refuse to repent, then God will not hear, but if we say, Lord, I want to repent, I want to forgive, but it hurts so bad right now--heal me so that I will be able to do as you ask--now that is something the Lord will hear and honor. Thanks for much for the reminder to walk honestly before the Lord. We are told that we are to worship in spirit and in truth. Psalm 139:23024 is one of my favorites! God bless you and keep sharing. Your words are very encouraging.
Beckie: (116 days 5 hours ago.)
Teresa, Thank you for your words of encouragement.  I agree that what the Lord wants is a willing heart to make things right and when the pain is deep, working that all out can be hard, but He wants us willing.  Appreciate what you shared.

I love how you summed things up in conclusion in your last paragraph. Really makes me think about whether I base my opinions on "robe or truth".

Susan: (128 days 18 hours ago.)
Beckie, I really liked this article. There is someone im my life that I keep being tempted to judge by "the evidence" left behind and the Lord keeps convicting me not to judge her...your article being the latest conviction. I also need to remember that there is an unseen robe that this person is wearing...the robe of Christ's righteousness and need to see her with this truth rather than the torn robes.
Anonymous: (128 days 17 hours ago.)
Wow, that is neat and I like what you added about the robe of Christ's righteousness.  I wish I had put that in there.  Thankful the Lord was able to use this to help you.

What a delightful man your quirky father was! In many ways, he reminds me of my dad who refused to let anyone call him "Reverend". He was a country boy and thought it pretentious. He loved telling jokes and was loved by everyone he ever met -- even the "chieftest of sinners" in town loved my dad. The difference between your dad and mine is that you KNEW he loved you. I never did. He died at the age of 46 with a heart attack and I thought my world was over. Thank you for sharing your quirky dad, Beckie!

Becky, as a preacher's daughter who lived in the fish bowl, I gotta hand it to you, girl! What a creative way to present the pressure of being gawked at, analyzed, and criticized. You know, Chonda Pierce and her hubby have built several retreats for pastor's families -- safe places where every one can "be real". God bless her, 'cause in the parsonage it's very hard to "be real" -- you might be the cause of Daddy losing his job! I love your writing style. It is very unique!

Beckie, Thanks for making me take an honest look at my own heart and my own practices of showing mercy. I am thankful His mercies are new every morning.

Well written message, here. The story of Jonah always reminds me of how selfish we can be when we think Gid should do something different from what He planned or desires.

Beckie, you have a way with making a story come to life. Thanks for sharing your talent with me. I look forward to reading more from you. My family and I have discussed how Jonah ends. Not what most people expect, but definately reality.

Yes the power of Gods Word is awesome.Words we know are life changing. I happen to think there was more in these Words that perhaps need to be embellished. First the warning came from God. Secondly the people were receptive. That is they believed. Third as you mentioned the messenger did not matter. It was a 'trust' that what was said will be done. Quite frankly do we not hope for the same in our leaders? The answer to that is trust no man and you shall know them by their works. It is evident they knew God as of His Word. Good job.

Awesome! I love how insightful this one is. What's amazing to me is our Heavenly Father uses every situation to teach a lesson, even when we are not looking for it. Aren't those the best ones?

How do we become grateful, not greedy; or content, and not grasping, even in the small things of life? These are issues we all struggle with, and your article is a good object lesson about dealing with these very human emotions. This is a well written message.
