Tips to Writing a Fantasy Novel that’s different and unique
Matt Turpin from Plainfield, CT: (27 days 11 hours ago.)
Reader Rating 5 out of 5
I've been trying for ages to write a fantasy novel myself. I recently teamed up with an illustrator friend of mine, and my enthusiasm has been rejuvenated. I just wanted to write to say that it was a relief to find someone of repute on the internet who was writing what I wanted to read. As I've been writing, I've been doing an equal amount of research on the internet for tips on novel writing, and on what to expect if I get to a publishable state. I've been writing largely as this article promotes. I just want to be different. My software proofreader hates me. My friends think I'm crazy. I've never had more fun writing. Its good to know that people can be successful being different. For what it's worth, I've been going for a sort of Alice in Wonderland meets Dr. Seuss style fantasy craziness. I was worried that not following all of the rules would be a detriment, but breaking them is so much fun. I just wanted to give this article two thumbs up for motivation to be crazy.

Milkshape3d is a nice product for 3d modeling. You can find it at milkshape3d. I have lots of tutorials on my website for getting and using game making and model making software. urls not allowed in comments so do a google search for

Trunlonia and on that page I have resources listed.

Could you explain step 6 a little more? I am a little confused on how to do that. (Come up with two big things that will happen and when they are resolved they cancel each other out so the plot hasn't advanced at all)

Long or Short Nails Playing the Classical Guitar? Which is Right for You?
Ashley from Owego NY: (115 days 6 hours ago.)

Is it the same way with acoustic guitars? I find it easier to play my guitar with long nails. If I cut my nails they start to break off excessively.
Anonymous: (115 days ago.)
I am not sure about acoustic guitar. I don't play it much. I think Generally though people use a plectrum when playing acoustic. The steel strings can be very tough on the nails.

I agree, Will. Writers have to be brave in their writing, and true to themselves and their artistic expression. As long as it doesn't ramble and become self-indulgent, writing should take both the writer and the reader on a voyage of discovery. This holds true if it is fiction or not. Stephen King as an example could be replaced by just about any highly successful author of note. April - Spot on! Cheers, Hannah

Will, What great advice. I play folk guitar, vastly different than classical, but I do like to pick a simple classical piece, something with a strong melody such as Claire de Lune or Fleur de Lise. Your suggested right hand exercises will help a lot. So will the pdf you recommended. I'm looking forward to trying them out! I was about to write an article, but I think I'll go practice instead!

Sorry that you had trouble with the catapult. I have a smaller catapult made out of craft sticks (popsicle sticks) that you might want to try. :) A lot easier and a lot of fun. I also have designed a game for it called Storm The Castle where you shoot paper balls through the windows and doors of a castle.

A Guide to buying a Dobsonian Telescope
Will: (242 days 22 hours ago.)
Nice little telescope you have there. Meade makes good products. Taking pics is a bit of a process. Normally you buy an adapter ring that connects your 35mm camera directly to the eyepiece tube assembly of the scope. Specific cameras need specific adapters. Then you run a long exposure on your camera.

Very good article, Will! And because I had to dust a classical guitar for decades, I know what you write is accurate. Sometimes I thought that guitar was worth more than I was! Ha! Ah, nothing like a classical guitar on Christmas morning, strumming out the Christmas Carols. It sets the mood for the whole day. I think I'd rather hear a good classical guitarist than any other musician. You did an excellent job: not too wordy, lots of white space, short paragraphs, and you got right to the point. Good job!

Will, you nailed it: "He has no qualms about writing whatever he wants to write in any length, and in any genre. He allows his stories go wherever they need to go." I can't tell you how many writer friends I have that are petrified at the thought of going outside their usual genre! Personally, I think that would be terribly boring. My last book is very heavy, but I spend far more time writing happy poetry. (See "Abandonment and The Dancing Bride" as an example.) I also love writing lyrics along with my musical compositions, and I love writing parables (sort of devotionals but with a twist). I met a poet once at a writers' conference and she said artistic people HAVE to be diverse in order to keep the creative juices flowing. She paints one day, composes music another, and writes yet another day. I never forgot that. Thanks for your article!
