When Time Stands Still - the metaphysics of divine time (110 days 11 hours ago)

Born in Coventry England in 1956, Steve's career spanned some 20 years in the UK television production industry which he describes as his 'first love'.

Despite a high profile and much success he eventually made a radcial change to the field of metaphysics, something he explains as being "inevitable at some stage in my life" This he attributes to having been aware of inherited psychic abilities since a young age, combined with an insatiable fascination for the workings of the universe and the human experience.

In a UK press article on why he gave up a 20 year lucrative career he said; "when the call comes you just have to follow", additionally siting his inability to continue in the media field as "being due to a debilitating personal affliction....integrity"

Now living in Florida, he's been busy since his change of career and has developed in his field.

He quotes his personal mission as "making metaphysics accessible and real and demonstrating that the universe has method and reason for even the most bizarre events in our lives" Notably he stays well away from those in the 'traditional' spiritual community who he describes as "lifestyle psychics and dress-code spiritualists", prefering to write and teach spiritual practises in a very grounded and accesible way.

His book on soulmates "When Two Souls Connect" published by Publish America has won much applause as a definitive work on the soulmate experienece and he is currently planning a new book called "Life - the missing instruction book"

Incredible... I have been called an "old soul" for the past 4 years, by teachers, friends, or random people I encounter. I decided to search what it truely meant tonight, and you have nailed it my friend. Amazing writings... Thank you-

An informative article.I can relate to the article especailly the strong spiritual attraction to the energy of the old soul. I think I am an old soul and can sense other old souls. I am female and sometimes feel spiritual attractions to old soul men which can be uncomfortable. Its totally on a high level not lust lol!

Wow, I truely believe i am an old soul, everything in my life from dreams to emotions have come true, it has almost been like i have had a sixth sense all through life w/out entities or hauntings, and i have always had people either hate me or love me, there seems to be no gray area, they are either vicious, almost evil or extremely kind, this article has truly helped me especially right now in my life

Wow,did you ever hit it on the head what i deal with and just everything. Im only 20 and i feel like i just lived a million times. This was very valuable and taught me alot. Thank you for it.

i can only echo what i've read on other posts... i always knew i was a little different, but i didn't know really how to begin to describe it, to articulate myself it in a way that made any kind of sense. it HAS a name, its NOT all in my head, im NOT alone, i know that there are other people GET IT .

BUT

im not sure i can say that the essence of being an "old soul" has ANYTHING to do with "spirituality" or "fate" "destiny" "karma" etc. i just don think thats necessary in any way

Wow.. I just read all of this and i totally understand it. I cant even begin to describe or throw around experiences where many of these situations has indeed happend to me. And sometimes i just feel that i know too much and that the world is just naive. People may not see me as a wisdomic person but belive me i just know i know what is right and what is wrong. I know what to do and what not to do, i have an inner sense and every little thing is going to be alright. Bob marley must of been an old soul because i love and understad his music so much. It makes me want to just jump for joy or cry. I just know what ever happens happens.. thats lifes plan and theres nothing you can do about it. Some people like to take control over things and like to try and change and sculpt our nation and such but everyone just needs to be kind and forgiving and appreciate what we have today and dont blame others for your own mistakes.

I the father of three autistic boys. I have a distinct feeling that they have come to me for a reason. It is a difficult life, raising three handicapped children. Having three of them cannot be a mere coincidence. There is a reason this has happened, and after having read this, I think I know why.

I've always been able to imagine things that would mystify and confuse my parents. My brother was exactly like my father, in temperment, and aptitude. I love my father, but we've never seen eye to eye on a lot of things; we're completely opposite in every conceivable way. Now it all makes sense - he is a young soul and I'm an old soul.

I have been told by a weird woman (^^) that I am ab old soul when I asked how and why I could tell if the ppl I meet are somewhat good or bad and I could "predict" things so easily.. And when I asked what an old soul is, she just refused to explain it to me and the only thing she told was "when you hear voices, just dont answer" which really confused me :-S

Steve the article was informative and a little helpful but what about the old souls that already knew what and who they were from a very very early age. I knew when i was 6 that things were not as they should be but could not find the words or the people including my closest family members to talk about it with. When i was 3 my mother left my father with 4 kids and when he remaried his now wife with 4 of her own kids me as the youngest really truly had to fend for my self. With self realization comes understanding but also a lot of questions as to how I knew such things that I could not really know or understand but I knew where to look for certian things or already knew how someone felt just by being in the same room with them. Im serounded by people who need me or at least what i can give them but i cant say no.But i digress even knowing there are others like me is a help. thanks Thomas Hatfield, 30, Sussex,N.B.

Steve, I don't know if you have read any of Watchman Nee's work. You might be interested in his book The Latent Power of the Soul. He believed that at Adam's first sin, the soul became subject to influences in two directions - God and the devil. He acknowledges that there is not a yin-yang relationship between the two, but that God is all-powerful and evil can never win in the ultimate end. He talks about how we can think we are "with God" through religious works, for example, yet be doing things in "soul power" that is only of ourselves. When the Spirit of God guides a Christian, he/she is and does according to that relationship with God. It is a completely different work of the soul, with power from God to the person, not from within the natural person. It is what enables a Christian to love unselfishly and at great sacrifice for eternal purposes, not only earthly resolution. You might enjoy reading it unless my clumsy description has put you off. Enjoyed your article.

Thanks for a really well written and apt article. I am an old soul, rather a tired one at the moment, and all I can say is deep sigh at the same old same old which seems to crop up and appear in my life time and time again...it feels rather imprisoning and very frustrating. On a positive note, when I feel lighter about the "scapegoating and abuse/attacks", I completeley disengage and detach from the drama that the other person is attempting to play out and draw me into. I just wish it would all stop to be honest, so I can breathe and be free to just simply be myself without what seems to be a never ending barrage of tom foolery!!!

Thanks a lot!!! I totally related to this, and it was really helpful the thoughts and insights about the protecting yourself from negative energies. I'm ssooo surrounded by younger souls and I have experienced all what you said, always giving to an unbearable limit sometimes, or -in my special case- leaving focus on things I need to do in my life to just think "why that person behaves like and what can I do to help or please"...

Anyways, even when this sounds very egocentric, it really happened to me several times and it happens to me every day when I get into a room full of people!! ;)

My mother (and even I sometimes) wondered why other people were 'acting normal' when it was such a pain for me to deal with all this.

Lately, I was thinking about that duality: whether give in or protect yourself and put a stop to a given situation. I found that -after all- I agreed with you on an intuitional level!! :)

Thanks so much. I would like to drop my e-mail here:

just in case you want to contact me or anyone who comes to cross with this space!! :p

I'm already a 'regular' student member from the Michael Teachings. I really talk a lot with Shepherd Hoodwin, and also know Troy Tolley, Nancy Gordon and Karen Murphy.

Take care a lot and everyone who comes here!!!

Thank you for your article, it is very powerful. However not all old souls as myself have always walked the path of the light. I had always had feelings like you state and yes it comes back to you slowly. My true awakening came in rush after grade school one day. To this day I know not what triggered it but never have I been the same. As I walked into my room, I was hit with sadness so strong and so powerful that it touched every fiber of my being at once. I felt pain in the lives of the people in the school bus I had just gotten off. I was on my knees weeping as it plowed into wave after wave. Then more souls joined with them screaming, thousands of the. The only question my mind could ask was why, what had I done, and what is this? As I embraced the pain because you can not with stand it, I knew that answer. This is that pain, and death I caused over the thousands of years I have been on this earth. I have never been the same since. From that day fourth I feel and know things that I can not explain other than to say not all is good. As I turned from what I was others have not and they are far worst than any feeding from a young soul. I do not know how old I am but I have not met a soul older than me except my father. He is a ancient (no other word I know fits), but he too is done here on this earth after this life time is gone. I can only hope that in this life time I can achieve atonement for my sins of the past. Blessed are the young souls because they have the chance to get it right the first time. I could go pages or books on what I have learned and seen but one thing we must never forget young or old we are all equal in the end. And have one choice light or dark because this is not the end. Hi Steve, What can I say, but that your article touched me as so true, My life to date has been so full of trauma, that if I wrote a book no one would believe it, I pick up on others thoughts usually if they are worried or they have negative thoughts/will try to wrip me off in some way (very handy when I started working for myself!), I had lodgers a few years ago, and 90% of them needed guidance in some way and it became laughable as they would gather strength, guidance and councelling and move on in their lives having lived under my roof for a few months. I have had a very spiritual experience, a few years a ago I was attacked, and a couple of months afterwards I was given the opportunity to do a fire walk, which I really believe had a catalist effect... for a few months afterwards I feared nothing (afterall if you can walk on hot coals and not be scared, why be scared of anything else!), my IQ shot up, I could remember pretty much anything i had ever learnt, I felt more love and compassion than I had ever been able to give out previously, and to be frank watcing other people was like watching children in a playground... I could see the contorsion and pain on peoples faces, I was in touch with my higher self. I bearly slept...didnt need to compartmentalise as no fears to put in boxes afterall, and as I lay awake at night the answers to any questions I may have were there for the taking, I could see the bigger picture. But unfortunately we live on a plain of pain, and I came back down to earth (kicking and screaming!) over the next few months, and although I have had these insights I now look at them as an out sider looking in, with only a tiny amount of understanding sticking. I worry (as there is so much to worry about in our modern lives), and this keeps me here grounded. When I was in touch with my higher self I knew this to be true: We are here to learn, our only judge is ourselves and others, there is no right and wrong (as my higher self did not have guilt), but I knew the difference between right and wrong, and knew I was a pure and compassionate spirit. If I made a mistake, it was made and that I would just try not to make it again, and that the paradox was that religion actually takes us away from the light by creating a judging culture. We are children who are here to learn, on a journey. I have read many books, some are close, but most only slightly "get it". We are all equal, and on our particular journeys. Around this time I applied to a couple of job agencies, and due to my physic openness I received 15 interviews, and was offered almost all these jobs... the world opened up for me, I became prosperous. I also attracted some of the most screwed up people around me, who were obveoulsy trying to feed off my positive power. the more developed we are the more open we are to abuse. I know I have been lucky in learning so much in a short space of time (Im only 35), I am married to my soul mate, who was probably a parent in a previous life, because he absolutely and utterly protects me, he is my gardian angel. I wanted to share this with you, I hope you and others can learn and relate to my experiences. Sarah

Geoff: (64 days 16 hours ago.)
Thanks again for responding. At this point, it's clear that any counter-argument would be a practice in splitting hairs. As long as the end goal is love and compassion and overcoming ego, we're essentially in agreement, so why argue over semantics? Peace and strength to you.

Agreed thanks for the comments - peace, strength and luck to you..

Geoff from MA: (65 days 5 hours ago.)
Thanks for responding, Steve. Please know that I understand your intentions are positive, and certainly appreciate the fact that you are a strong advocate of love and compassion. We share that in common. The only problem I'm addressing lies in the action of identifying oneself as an "old soul" as opposed to--and I quote--"young souls who misinterpret our actions based upon their own narrow understandings." That statement is a value judgment--whether intentional or not--and value judgments arise from the ego. Within the paradigm you're referencing in your article--that of progressive reincarnation based on accumulation of positive karma--claiming the status of "old soul" effectively serves as a claim of superiority within a spiritual hierarchy. My belief is that it is not my role as a human being to determine the status of my soul, nor is it my place to determine the 'age' or status of the souls of others. I know your intentions are positive, but I feel obliged to point out the dangers inherent in attempting to lay claim to the history or status of the soul. When we start using terminology like "old soul" and "new soul," it's really a form of judgment, which serves no greater or higher purpose. Rather, it often hinders us from finding the true way forward, which can only be found through the practice of loving kindness and compassion.
Comment by Steve Gunn (2,158) Unverified Account View Bio for Steve Gunn (65 days 4 hours ago.)
Thank you but once again the term 'old soul' is not heirarchical in ego or any other way in this article - even if someone decides to project that onto the article, thats their individual perogative . If you read my work there is a lot on ego death within spiritual transformation and how judgment and individual perspective has to be overcome in order to transcend to objectivity. At least half a dozen articles including that and much more on the discussion boards. This article is about loving and compassion and how many people have found that their love and compassion is abused, often leaving them bewidlered how others cant see the suffering that is caused. The soul age concept is something based on sound metaphysics and a body of work over many years and exlains much of this ie people arent just either young souls or old souls but somewhere on the path betwen the two which we will all tread at some point in our evolution. Its that soul age is a considerable factor in awareness altruism and understanding outside of ego...and that for some, they can repay the altruism with anything from non understanding through to abuse but that this level of awareness is a big factor often linked to their soul age. We're saying the same thing but this article is observational...

Geoff from MA: (66 days 4 hours ago.)

Please be careful with this sort of thinking, everyone. Live your life for its own sake, and on its own terms. The ego has a lot of tricks to play on us, often involving a sense of superiority. The examples are many, ranging from the belief that our family or background somehow sets us apart, that our so-called 'race' is somehow superior to others or that we are 'old souls' whose great burden it is to put up with those needy, undeveloped 'young souls.' These are all tricks of ego and have nothing to do with a truly positive path forward. Humility, kindess and love--that's true wisdom. It is far from easy to live life according to these lofty ideals, but the key is in recognizing that we all share a fundamental core identity. That is to say we are all fundamentally equal. It is not my role to feel superior or self-satisfied in believing that I am an 'old soul' or that I hold the 'true faith' or any other ego-trick. Such games will only serve as a diversion from a truly healing, peaceful path. Don't fall for the false comfort of a sense of superiority.
Comment by Steve Gunn (2,158) Unverified Account View Bio for Steve Gunn (66 days 2 hours ago.)
Thank you for your comment but if you re read the article you'll find its totally and uttely not about ego or being better than anyone - far from it, most of the people this refers to suffer from giving too much because their altruism is way beyond anything egotistical. The article makes that quite clear and doesnt anywhere talk about being better than anyone but redressing the balance of where continued giving becomes abuse - and the issue of redressing balance, never anywhere talking about heirarchy or better or superiority. It even states not being about ego.

Steve -- thank you for this article. I've been called an old soul several times, and I've been wondering so much what it meant. I have a question, though.. I do believe that I am an old soul, but I have also participated in attacking and clinging towards people I love... would that make me a young soul?... I have experienced it in the other direction too -- but is it just that I haven't caught up with my soul yet that I still act in a clinging or attacking way with some people? Thank you again. Rebecca

Steve, I came upon this article at the exact time I needed to. It gave me goose bumps! I have also been told by a Phsychic that I was an Old Soul who did not have to come back but choose to, my mission was counseling. I had just got into an argument on the phone with my husband about how my inlaws had treated me rotten for no reason, even they could come up with. I read the paragraph about young souls at the same time I was having the argument. I had some of the same exact situations happen to me as a few of your readers. It really does keep one fighting on to know there is a reason for all the hard times. What a relief to know I am not the only one. I wish I could meet more people like me. I will continue to research and learn. Thank you for your article, I'm sure you don't know how many people you have helped....

Some people who get to know me will say how awesome it is for me to be wise at a young age although fitting in is hard to do and that is something they don't understand. I had trouble all through school i'd rather get to know the teacher than any of the kids I didn't understand why they didn't view things as I did, now at least because of your article I have a better unders'm not wierd just I guess different and I can handle that much better!!

Great article, I can fully relate to it. Kinda funny that people tell me that I'm an old soul all the time. I'm not materialistic, and I'm spiritual, but not religious. Many people think I'm crazy for having different views like this, but face it, you can't take money into the next life (its man-made, why worry about it?), you take your experiences/karma with you. I'm always putting people in front of me, I love helping people out and teaching lessons too. Hopefully this will be my last life (reincarnation) of a human. Hopefully once I die I will be reborn as a being of a higher plane/dimension where the world isn't so messed up. I'm just wondering how you got this information, was it just a conclusion you came to, or was it through remote viewing or meditation? Thanks.

Ok I read this after I had written in a journal that I don't feel like I "connect" with my peers, (I'm 18) and seriously, I really think I am an Old soul. I give and give, and get taken advantage of, and I told a girl "I don't give to make myself happy, I gave because seeing people happy makes me happy" I really can't explain why I give, I just do it, but I've encountered abuse, and have realized I need to tone it down. But the most painful, is that I've always been one who "sticks otu" and thus gets made fun of A LOT, even though I'm told I'm really pretty, And people perceieve me in a way that isn't true at all. And I'm wodnering, I go off to college enxt year in Portland, OR, and will I still experience the tendency to get picked on like I do about every day, in some form or another? Its said Old souls live painful lives, is this what people mean by "painful?"

Finally, someone else that can identify and define "ME." I am an old soul. I have known this since I can remember. I relate to all that you wrote. In my life I have always just known things. Things I have never really researched or had a lifes experience about but things that just are there but bring great comfort in knowing. I have always felt as if I was not of this world. Now I realize there are many of us. That is also comforting. I would love to communicate with other Old Souls out there. I am not to leave an email address but if someone wants to contact me and can think of a way to do so I would very much enjoy talking with you. Thank you for the knowledge.

I have read and have found the article very helpful. It was three months ago I met a soulmate and until then never thought much about what a soulmate is. He fled after a fallout and I await his return, which I've been told will happen and which I find hard to believe. However when we were together it felt like we were very comfortable with eachother and we had known eachother for years. This article has helped me understand the emotional depths soulmates experience. Thankyou.

Are You an 'Old Soul ' ?

What a spiffy article! I have just a quick story and question. Several years ago a woman who worked with my mother, and who I never met, did a reading for me on paper (I wasn't actually there!), and I must say she was bang on with virtually everything. In addition, she mentioned me as being an old soul. So here's my somewhat odd question: I don't know if it's at all rigid or mathematical, but how many previous lives have old souls generally lived? Is it different for everyone? Do they live as many times as it takes to reach this growth and learning? If you could provide some insight on this it would be awesome! p.s. - I'm apparently in my 11th or 12th life :)

Thank you for the feedback. I haven't disallowed any negative feedback at all excepting one person early on who continually posted a torrent of personal abuse I offered her the chance to leave feedback on the article but she couldnt be objective she had to make personal attacks on what she projected were my motives for writing the article and this included sending me many emails. So only that feedback was removed....

This article has shown me what I've been feeling my whole life... it is interesting to see how many people like myself feel this way... It's funny that I've had the "Energy Vampire" and life it's all about being balanced wow I can't believe how this article makes so much sense...also I feel that I have met my soulmate but he is in his caterpillar stage boohoo...great article and def "Dead on" nice to meet you all "Old souls"

I have heard the term "Old soul" before, but never as indepth and concise as your article. I can relate to people wishing or doing negative things to me yet wanting to me give them positive things. Some people seem to hate me without justifiable reason. Your article is "Dead on"

Dear Steve, thanks for the article. I have been called an old soul my entire life not quite knowing what it meant. From my childhood I have always felt more connected to people much older than me and always felt different from/misperceived by my peers, but not in any obvious way. My sensitive nature led me to be depressed in my teenage years and I suffered a lot of disappointment in my romantic life. Over the past year, however, I have experienced an opening up to spirituality through yoga and meditation and have found a new sense of purpose in my life. In the midst of it all, I met a wonderful woman about ten years older than me who I felt instantly connected with, and who was undergoing a similar opening. We spent a very romantic month together, everything just seemed to click, it really felt like destiny. However I was again disappointed when I found that she had started seeing someone else the very day she met me who was closer to her age and had some more worldly success. She went with the other guy, and wants to be "friends for now" (a theme that has occurred several times in my past). I can't understand it because I felt so connected to her...both of us affirmed that we were meant to meet. An astrologer told me our destiny lines overlapped, but ran in different directions. Could I have met my soulmate? Again thanks for the article, it really resonated with me and came at a very specific time. Its nice to know there is some order to all of this. Best wishes

Dear Steve, Thank you so very much for sharing this with us all and giving us a chance to know better about us 'Old Souls'. I was thinking that life was not fair, for people seemed to take the best of me and then just leave me behind with my hand or in my heart for nothing to give anymore or millions of tear drops that made me keep wondering.. I really needed to read your article here and now, and now I understand the reason why I came here this moment. Through your article, I now recognized that I was not wrong at all. I was stopping giving just to protect my heart from breaking down again, but now I know that what I needed was to live and give in the balance. Thank you so very much, Steve. Now I feel I am saved again:) Have a beautiful day!

Thank you for the feedback and thank you to everyone for the feedback. Strange how this article above all others has "stirred the pot". I cant take credit for that because asking these questions and trying to find answers over many years has been really important to my journey and i guess i was compelled to share what i'd discovered. Amazing to see how many responses and know we aren't alone... really appreicate that

Insightful. I found myself agreeing with much of your spiritual philosophy. I realize now that I fit the "old soul" personality type with a hint of "young soul" at times. A lot of what you wrote I've been taught in Christianity. These "Energy Vampires" are those under the influence of demonic influences (in the devil's spiritual realm there is a hierarchy), the same goes for those which attack when they sense someone walking in a renewed, spiritually sound mind. Sometimes these people aren't consciously aware of their actions under these negative influences. All one can do is be spiritually introspective and aware of their own actions and how it affects them and those around them. A nicely written piece.

good job on a well written piece, i found myself using your checklist to check off the key points as they apply to myself. i have been told by a few holistic readers that i am what they termed an 'old soul' and am happy to see yet another confirmation of that fact because now i don't feel like i'm going nuts when i say or feel certain things. thanks! this is a very positive experience overall.

WOW!! where to start. I came across this site quite by accident (I think ), so many thoughts flowing through my mind right now. I am feeling a little bit overwhelmed but in a good way. There are so many things I would like to share about my experiences, but it feels like a water faucet in my head is open and on full right now. Do not really know how to or if I want to shut it off, but I am struggling a bit to get a handle on it. What I will say is that the article and comments I,ve read really ring true to me. I thank GOD I stumbled onto this site at what seems like a perfect time in my life. What I would like to share now is the all encompassing feeling that I have had of always being a little different from others including my family members, trying to share little bits of insight or thoughts and sensing that they were or are trying to "get it",but knowing deep inside that they don,t (then feeling sad for them and me). Until now I felt a little burdened and a little bit alone in this journey, though I knew and know now even with more conviction that I must continue to persevere. I could write for hours on this, but I won,t, discovering this site at this time in my life feels like a blessing indeed. In parting I would like to share a saying I made up at christmas dinner as my family was embroiled in a passionate debate that I decided not to wade into. I turned to Sheila (r.i.p.) my mom,s best friend (a very kind woman with a soft british accent) and said "Thank God for all the mistakes i,ve made in life, could you imagine how arrogant I'de have been without them." Sheila looked at me and said softly "well said dear" and we both smiled quietly. Just a last point, the rating system showed me rating 2.5 stars when I actually gave content 5 stars and chose not to grade format. Thanks again for a very positive experience.

the things you've said are totally related.. i've been till now living in a kind of karmic merry-go-round from the moment of childhood i can remember of. i knew i was different(when i was small they used to say that i was a very beautiful boy who looks like a girl:).,as sensitive that I thought it would be an ongoing battle for me to try to live into this mundane but apparently normal looking society..although a late bloomer but I've always been interested in mathematics & metaphysical subjects and can quite easily get the stuff.(now occult joined the group).. things are just adding up as recently had a kind of personal revelation through the net,.. that i'm beginning to feel a profound sense of interconnectedness with some number patterns occuring most of my life. especially the number 11..clocks phenomena, number sightings,.etc can't get any reason out of it. and also my life path and soul no also turns out to be 11.

I love giving, I love to comfort and help, but I often forget to look after myself, my lovely doctor gave me a wake uo call to my own needs, as soon as I care more about myself I can be more balanced in what I give to others :)

I've finally discovered that I have to come first, I was told by my doctor that I am a wonderful mother, but I have to start putting my own needs before everyones, obviously I won't neglect my children, they are my world, but she told me that I am the most important person in my life and that I need to prioritise and look after myself first and foremost, as that will benefit everyone around me more than my continued constant giving.
Response from Steve Gunn (2,158) Unverified Account View Bio for Steve Gunn: (187 days 9 hours ago.)
Its a very common lesson for the natural giver - to know when too much giving can be destructive... I speak to so many people who are energetically drained and bashed from the trials of life and they ask "why me - all i did was give". Its a tough lesson but an important one that the concept of being spiritual DOES NOT mean unconditionally giving - All things exist because of their opposite and for every giver theres a taker. Its not unspiritual to think that - its realistic, nor does it mean that person is bad, bad and good often get mistaken in these concepts. It doesnt mean later that person cant learn and progress... But to not be aware of the duality of life is dangerous when one is a natural giver...

The day I was born the midwife said to my mum that I was an old soul, my eyes focused and followed people from a few hours old, I can relate to the harsh experiences of life so far, I have finally been able to balance them aged 31, although I still keep giving, my youngest son is an old soul, he has been hard work regarding his temperament and behaviour as a baby and toddler, he's still headstrong but he is the most affectionate, headstrong and sharing child, he has true empathy for people when he stops being a typical 3 year old, my 5 year old has difficulty sharing, but my old soul youngest gives to everyone and has true love and compassion for everyone, I'm really sad in a way, as I know myself the pain he will have to go through in his life, and I think his soul is older than mine.
Response from Steve Gunn (2,158) Unverified Account View Bio for Steve Gunn: (187 days 9 hours ago.)
Thanks for sharing your story... Remember the great lesson all old souls have to learn...thats that unconditional caring is great but unconditional giving leads to having nothing left to give and often a bashed self esteem. Not everyone is ready to respect your giving or caring - thats a judgment call you have to make in each case... As in all things never one force but its counterpart too - so never compassion without power..... Power to protect the giver - the power of discretion and to protect the value of the giving. :0)

Diana from Canada: I would like to comment on this article on behalf of my son who is only 5 yrs. old and in JK his teacher one day approached me and told me he was an OLD SOUL. I didn't know what this meant until I looked it up, and I could really relate some of the points to him as for he doesn't have them all yet for just being a child. He relates to elders, has such a compassion . Like in your article he's just loved or hated by others and he acts the same to both parties, like in school he can't understand why a boy in his class does'nt like him and teases him, when I know he acts the same to everyone in class. Just a quick story, recently our grandmother passed away and we deceided not to tell all the very young childrenof her passing ,so on the day of her funeral viewing he decided he wanted to draw a picture for her birthday which would of been in a few days(he did not know of the events of this day) in this picture he drew her her predeased husband holding flowers , birthday cake and her predeased son ,in which he never had any knowledge of her son or her husband,my son then explained to me that grandma is now celebrating with her husband and son .Everyone got goosebumps when they heard this. Thank you for your eye opening article and God Bless.

I would like to say something as an old soul...and as I mentioned above my life has been very hard and I dont know why I was saved from something that the doctors later confessed I should have died from basically...and I thought okay maybe it was everyone elses energy in the room that healed me but so many other pray and end up dieing and then I realised and found out I was saved because I have a job to do here im still kinda figuring that out but honestly I have so many challenges and just everything and I would gladly hadn over certain things that I have been givin and the challenges ALTHOUGH and the same time I love it because I want to heal and bring love and peace and much more

Sorry about posting 2 replies, you could erase the 1st one with the spelling mistake :). I gave your response a deeper thought and i realized why a lot of people see this article as separatist. The popular belief about soul age is: the older the soul, the higher it ranks (supposedly) in the soul-society...which couldn't any further from the truth. Like you said: there is no hierarchy in the soul realm...evey soul is equal and has equal capabilities...except what differs a young soul from an old soul is that: 1) young souls create confusion, complexity, chaos, misunderstandings: 2) old souls create love, harmony, peace, balance, simplicity, connection...etc. I hope you were only using it as a means to express the responsibility when you said: most people would trade in the challenges that come with having an old soul. I really hope that it's just the people who think that and not the souls themselves. Jan
Response from Steve Gunn (2,158) Unverified Account View Bio for Steve Gunn: (212 days 9 hours ago.)
I was saying that if people want to see anyone stating they have the old soul attributes as something that makes them any better or any higher up the spiritual tree thats not something most old souls would feel. You can see from the comments here that its a mega learning lesson with some extreme challenges..

If others want to see it as heirachical they will see it that way but its not how the article was written...There more stuff on my site and discussion board if anyone would like to contribute to any metaphysical subjects its an open board and your contribution would be welcomed.

Thanks again for your comments on the article.. Steve

Hello! I'm Jan from Cyprus. I found your article most interesting and while reading i had many flashbacks in an instant. The most exciting part for me was that about the soul-mates...recently a soul-mate of mine reached out to me in a meditation, but we haven't made any clear contact just yet. But i can already sense a reunion with an old friend some time soon. I'm also wondering...is it very healthy for old-souls to see themselves somewhat more advantaged than younger souls? I know i have got great insight and ability to make things flow beautifully, but is it fair not to use this power to help the younger souls to reach this level as well? There is much abuse going on, but isn't it everyone's own mission to face that challenge and respond with something good? Thank you for giving me this moment to reflect.
Response from Steve Gunn (2,158) Unverified Account View Bio for Steve Gunn: (213 days 4 hours ago.)
Hi Jan, "is it very healthy for old-souls to see themselves somewhat more advantaged than younger souls?"... I think whats apparent from the article is that far from it being an advantaged situation to be an old soul it comes with a high price. And as i tried to highlight this isn't anything to do with ego its not a heirarchy in that sense it just means a different level of both challenges and opportunities at the same time. Interestingly this article on other sites has received much criticism and applause, almost total duality - The article was written as observational not judgmental and does say that its not at all about anything egotistical yet 100% of the criticism is saying that it is seperatist and somehow comes from ego. I guarantee if we took a poll of the people who've commented here most of us would glady trade in the challenges and not have this phenomenon at all rather that it be something we're proud of or wave around as anything that makes us better than anyone else. And yes altruism always, whatever gifts or experiences we've been given are there for a reason. We're all in the same boat here on battlefield earth and those who have been gifted with some of the insight that comes with being an 'older soul' have that insight to help others..most at personal cost to themselves.... A key sign of an old soul is that altruistic nature....

Everyday Daisy - New Zealand Yes, completely relate to everything in this article. Always feeling like a fringe dweller, associating with the elderly as a small child, never really fitting into a group. Lots of stalkers, trusting so called 'friends' to have them turn on me out of the blue for no reason, being popular and sort out (especially at work) to hear peoples problems then left so drained only a nap will restore any type of energy!! Why do people who are suppose to be friends start to make snide comments which come out of nowhere when I have not changed? Is there any way to stop this? Sometimes seems like just when things look better it gets worse! Thanks for the insight Steve. I am an Old Soul. Any comments on how to stop the cycle appreciated.

Thank you for the feedback. In answer to your question yes it's about understanding one's karma and role in the greater scheme of things - why these particular tests exist, what we're meant to learn from it and how to harness the energies that cause such responses from people.

Great article, I've always known I was an old soul. I can relate to everything you said 100 %, especially how people percieve me wrongly and often get mad at me for no reason. I had a best friend in high school who turned against me for no reason at all. She broke off our friendship online, but I have never heard her sound so crazy before. One day, she's nice to me and the next she was saying insane things like, "I want to cut off your boobs and shove them in a jar and marvel at them" Lol! I never understood why she got so crazy and angry until now, at the time it really hurt me.
