Writing and selling your own ebooks is one of the easiest ways to make money online. However, there are a couple of pitfalls that you should be aware of before you start writing an ebook. If you stumble into one of these traps, you won't have the success you should have. The traps are simple. Here they are, with tips on how to avoid them. Trap One: Not Checking That There's A Market For Your Ebook Before You Start Writing The old saw: "You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink" applies here. Unless there are people who are hungry for the information you provide, no one (or very few people) will buy your ebook. There are thousands of topics on which you could write. However, to write successful ebooks, focus on the topics which solve problems - and for which people will pay for solutions. For example, when I switched from a Windows computer to a Mac, I was desperate for a simple ebook which would help me to become familiar with the Mac interface. After much searching, I found ONE. Only one ebook, and yet thousands of Windows users are switching to Macs, so it's a hungry market. The easiest way to check that there's a market for your ebook is to type "topic +ebook" into a search engine (without quotes.) If there are lots of ebooks, assess them. The fact that there are many ebooks need not put you off - it shows that people are willing to pay for information on this topic. Make your ebook a little better, and your ebook will sell. Trap Two: Failing To Promote Your Ebook You're not done when you've written your ebook. In a sense, that's when the fun begins - the fun of promoting your ebook. Ideally, you'll start promoting your ebook (by advertising, with a press release, or with any other marketing strategy you please) before your ebook is complete. If you choose to promote your ebook with a Web site, that site takes time before it's indexed via the search engines, so create the site as soon as you start writing, and develop a mailing list so that interested buyers can sign up for notification when you publish the ebook. Promotion is vital for your ebooks, so start promoting early, and keep promoting the ebook after it's released. When you combine a hungry market with consistent marketing efforts, your new ebook will be a roaring success. You can make money online easily because there's a flourishing marketing for ebooks online. Write an ebook, and you can sell it forever, and you'll never run out of eager buyers. Writing has a single requirement: that you write. There's not much more to it, because when you write, writing will teach you what you need to know. You'll stumble across teachers and books to short-cut the learning process, but essentially you'll only learn by writing - and by avoiding the seven deadly sins of writing. Here they are: 1. Writing Without Clear Goals - If You Don't Know Where You're Going, You'll Get Nowhere The first deadly sin of writing is writing without clear goals. You need both long-term goals, and short-term goals. However, since you can't "do" any goal, you can only do tasks which (may) lead to your goals, you must set those tasks, and do them. I said "may" because you don't need know how to do something like write a novel or get a copywriting client to achieve your goals. The "how" will become apparent as you do tasks - as you focus and write. 2. Writing Without Focus - Chunk Down Your Writing Just as you can't do writing goals, writing is a process, not a one-time event. So you need to chunk down tasks. For example, if your task is to write an article, one chunk is finding a title, another is writing an outline, another is a first draft, and so on. Focus, and chunk, and you'll meet your writing goals. 3. Writing In Your Head - Think On Paper, When It's On Paper, You Can Fix It Sitting and thinking about writing isn't writing. Think on paper - write down everything that comes into your head about a writing task. You can winnow the grains of a project later from the chaff. Get the words - any words - onto paper or your computer screen. 4. Writing Without Reading - Editors Must Please Readers, And So Must You When you're writing to sell, you must know what people are buying - that is, what they're reading. If you want to write a bestseller, read current bestsellers. If you want to write copy (write for business) read advertisements in newspapers, magazines and on the Web. Learn about business. Ask yourself why a piece of writing is successful: once you know why, you've broken the code. 5. Procrastination: Just Write, Even If You Only Have One Minute Writing takes time, but not a lot of time. You can write a page in five or ten minutes. It might not be great writing, but it doesn't have to be. You can fix it later. 6. Writing With Half Your Brain - Creativity Means Using Your Right And Left Brain Writing takes both creativity and logic - your right and left brain. Creativity means trusting your intuition, and just getting the words onto the computer screen, no matter how silly they sound to your logical left brain. Trust your creativity. 7. Giving Up Your Individuality When You Write - Write YOUR Way Trusting your creativity means writing your way. Yes, you must know what's selling, but once you know why people read what they read, and why a certain piece of writing is successful, then you must write it your way, through the screen of your experience and creativity. So, there you have the seven deadly sins of writing. Avoid them, and you'll be a successful writer - the writer you were meant to be. Avoid the deadly sin of writing procrastination with Angela Booth's "Top 70 Writing Tips To Help You To Write More" ebook at http://abmagic.com/Write-More/write-more.html - you'll discover that writing is fun, and profitable. Want a mind that's clear and calm like water, but prepared to deal with anything? Mala meditation helps you to achieve this state. When I first started to meditate, I found it almost impossible to calm my mind. “Monkey mind" never stopped jumping around. Then a teacher suggested that mala meditation would help. A mala is string of beads, and you repeat a mantra as you count each bead. For example, your mantra might be “Om", so as you pass the beads through your fingers, you say Om at each bead. Malas have 108 beads, with an additional large Meru bead, which lets you know when you've reached the end of your count. When you get to the Meru, you reverse the mala, and keep counting your mantra again. Malas Can Be Simple, Or Beautiful Malas are available in many different forms. Semi-precious stones are popular, because stones are said to have specific effects. A rock crystal mala, for example, is said to be healing and protective, while a sandalwood mala brings calm and tranquillity - and smells wonderful, too. Tips For Mala Meditation * You can say your mantra aloud, or silently to yourself. Keep up a steady pace as you work your way around the mala - don't rush. If your mind wanders from the mantra, bring it gently back; * You can spend as much time as you please in mala meditation. Start off with five or ten minutes. Even just a single round of counting your mala will focus and relax you - great if you're going for a job interview or are giving a presentation; * Keep your mala in a safe place. Some people choose to wear their mala, so that it's always handy, and they can take time out for stressful situations; * End your yoga practice with a few moments of mala meditation - then get up ready to take on the world. Yoga is deeply relaxing, as well as energizing, and you can do it anywhere. One of the most popular questions for anyone new to yoga is: "What's the best kind of yoga mat for me?" There are many different kinds of yoga mat from which you can choose. Many are made from polyester latex, and have a slip-resistant surface. "Sticky" mats, which have a textured synthetic surface, are also very popular. Practitioners of styles like Ashtanga yoga, and Bikram yoga often prefer to use both a sticky mat and a rug, placing the rug over the sticky mat. Of course, you don't need to buy a yoga mat if you don't want to: can just use a thick towel, or a rug, as your yoga mat. Your choice of yoga mat is also influenced by where you'll be exercising. Where Will You Do Your Yoga Exercises? If you're doing your yoga in front of the TV on a carpeted floor, you can just use a thick towel, or a folded blanket. On the other hand, if you're taking lessons at a yoga studio, it's awkward to carry a blanket, so ring the studio before you start, and ask what kind of mat they recommend. They may even sell yoga mats. Sticky and other mats are often sold with a carrier, so you can sling the mat over your shoulder on your way to practice. Eco Yoga Mats For a Cleaner Environment In the past few years, environmentally conscious types of yoga mats have become popular. The older styles of mats are made from PVC (Poly Vinyl Chloride). Since the manufacture of PVC releases toxins into the atmosphere, "eco" mats have been created from materials like cotton, jute and rubber. So the kind of yoga mat you choose is up to you. Have fun with your yoga. It's your time to refresh, relax, and be with yourself. Of the many different types of yoga mat, you'll find the perfect one for you.
