First U2, Now Foo Fighters to Stream Live Video of their Performance!

Posted Friday, October 30, 2009 (8 days 15 hours ago.) Viewed 19 times.

The Foo Fighters will be following U2's footsteps and streaming live an upcoming performance. Unlike U2, Foo Fighters are using Facebook to stream their live performance instead of YouTube.

You can RSVP to the performance that is being held at their Studio 606 headquarters in Los Angeles. Then watch it on Facebook.

As a fan, I am loving this new trend to stream performances online. Ticket prices these days are outrageous. It also gives opportunities to those who live in certain areas that they never would experience otherwise.

On the flip side, artists get to have a larger presence in the social networking worlds. Already over 7,000 fans have RSVP'd for the concert Oct. 30.

I wonder, however, what this does mean for the concert industry and the artists. Will the industry fail to exist because of live streaming or will charging be in the future?

Those interested in watching the Foo Fighters on Oct. 30, reserve your spot here

Daylight Savings Time Ends Nov. 1: Remember to set your clocks

Posted Monday, October 26, 2009 (12 days 19 hours ago.) Viewed 673 times.

It seems like we would never gain that hour back that we lost in the spring. But what timing! Who doesn't need an extra hour after all that trick or treating.

Daylight savings time used to end the last Sunday in October but after a law change it was moved to the first Sunday in November. I am really looking forward to that extra hour of sleep.

My favorite story is about our close friends who were always late to church. Well, one year, God decided to have a little laugh. They forgot to set their clocks back and were an hour early for church. They sat in the parking lot confused for some time before turning on the radio and realizing what had happened. Those who know them could not help but crack up!

There are several groups determined to do away with Daylight Savings Time. Many states have already passed laws that refuse to recognize Daylight Savings Time and therefore, do not take part in the annual moving the clocks back and moving them forward.

The question is, does the act really save on electrical consumption? According to the Department of Energy's report to Congress, Daylight Savings Time does save energy.

"The total electricity savings of Extended Daylight Saving Time were about 1.3 Tera Watt-hour (TWh). This corresponds to 0.5 percent per each day of Extended Daylight Saving Time, or 0.03 percent of electricity consumption over the year. In reference, the total 2007 electricity consumption in the United States was 3,900 TWh," the report says.

For me, I enjoy the time change in the fall, but hate it in the spring. Maybe, I should petition to change the law so we fall back both times. I wonder what effect that would have. I know I would be well rested.

Enjoy your Halloween and don't forget to take that extra hour in sleep.

Oh To Be A Pot Reporter: Would That Be Your Dream Job?

Posted Thursday, October 22, 2009 (16 days 19 hours ago.) Viewed 31 times.

Westword, an alternative newspaper in Denver is currently seeking to fill a new position. The pay is not great but the amount of marijuana you come in contact with each day could be mind numbing, no pun attended.

The newspaper is seeking a writer for its weekly review of Colorado's booming medical marijuana dispensaries. The only stipulation is that the writer must have a medical ailment allowing them to enter a dispensary and use marijuana.

Don't get too excited. The paper can not afford to pay for the writer to use the marijuana as well as citing other concerns about purchasing the marijuana.

"Keep in mind this isn't about assessing the quality of the medicine on site; it's about evaluating the quality of the establishment," says the Westword job posting. "After all, we can't have our reviewer be stoned all the time."

Fourteen states currently have legalized marijuana. Maybe it is time that the other markets follow suits and allow writers to report on this new growing industry. The dispensaries in Denver sell over a dozen different types of marijuana that can cost as much as $130 an ounce.

If it was ever opened up to those without medical ailments, I think the list of college interns applying would be a mile long. Although the Denver paper has already gotten well over 100 applicants.

The fourteen states that have legalized marijuana for medicinal purposes are Arizona, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.

The legalization is opening up a whole new economic industries. Maybe marijuana is our solution to the recession. More jobs and money flowing in much like tobacco was in its day. . . .maybe not, but it is fun to think about!
