Hair Topics To InformAsher Ricard (5,137) ![]() ![]() Asher Ricard ![]() Apple CEO Steve Jobs Declared Dead?Posted Thursday, August 28, 2008 (1 day 19 hours ago.) Viewed 31 times. Before you jump to the conclusion that someone at the Bloomberg News has it in for Jobs or wants him dead, it is common for reporters to write obituaries of famous people to have on file. When I worked in the newspaper industry, obituaries were written daily for famous people because celebrities do not always die before deadline so if you had an obituary already written it was easy to get it in the paper at a moments notice. Most times it is written by the "newbies" which might explain the accidental release. It would have been real simple for a new person to have saved it to the wrong place. I am sure it gave a heart attack to Apple stockholders, though. The timing could not have been worse as rumors have been soaring through the internet faster than the iPhone has been selling out that Jobs is suffering from cancer again. Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2003, but has denied reports that it has returned. Apple's entire image is wrapped up in Jobs. He did, after all, make Apple what it is today. The good news is that the obituary was flattering. The text, which contained a blank space for the cause of his death and his age, reportedly described Jobs as the man who "helped make personal computers as easy to use as telephones, changed the way animated films are made, persuaded consumers to tune into digital music and refashioned the mobile phone," the Telegraph reported. Bloomberg later issued a retraction note, saying that the text was deleted immediately. "The item was never meant for publication and has been retracted," the note read. Apple stockholders should take note that it isn't unusual for an obituary to be written ahead of time even for people that are perfectly healthy. I know with the rumors some might assume that he has cancer again, but this really is a common practice. Newspapers keep obituaries on file for everyone from Oprah to the current president. It is just a tradition to ensure they are written in time. So Apple lovers take a deep breath of relief. Jobs will be around for years to come! Permalink Comments (1) Aaron Sorkin To Write Facebook Movie: Interact With Sorkin On FacebookPosted Thursday, August 28, 2008 (1 day 20 hours ago.) Viewed 3 times. We all know Aaron Sorkin as the writer of such hit shows as The West Wing, Sports Night (my favorite) and Studio 60, but now he is embarking on a new adventure. Sorkin has been asked to write a movie about the creators of the social networking site Facebook. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg in February 2004 while studying at US university Harvard. In the website's early days, membership was restricted to US students, but it now has more than 100 million users worldwide. Facebook continues to update and grow day by day. Sorkin, who is unfamiliar with the social networking site decided to start a group on Facebook in order to solicit ideas and learn about the site. "I've just agreed to write a movie for Sony and producer Scott Rudin about how Facebook was invented," he says on his group page. "I figured a good first step in my preparation would be finding out what Facebook is, so I've started this page. (Actually it was started by my researcher, Ian Reichbach, because my grandmother has more Internet savvy than I do and she's been dead for 33 years.)" AS an avid user of Facebook, I am excited to see where this goes. I can't think of a harder assignment for Sorkin, however. Sorkin is known for injecting humor into dramatic pieces. I am excited to see what his mind comes up with writing this movie. His humor is already showing through the comments on the group page. Since joining Facebook, the writer has been responding to questions and comments from fans, leading to some further revelations about the forthcoming film. "I have a fairly specific idea of what the first 15 pages of the screenplay will be and no idea what will happen on pages 16 thru 130," he wrote. "I have very strong feelings about the internet and its effect on our national culture, but frankly those feelings are being countered by the sophistication, kindness, curiosity and wit of the posts in this site. "You people are screwing me up with your civility and intelligence." For those already on Facebook, go join the group. Who knows if Sorkin might use some of your ideas or thoughts? At least go welcome him to the site. Those who have never heard of Facebook or do not know if they want to join the site, my suggestion is to sign up today. It is a great social network site because it has older people and not as scary as myspace. You will be surprised how fast you reconnect with old friends and learn about each others in ways you never would have before Facebook. Check out the group at here.
