The Butterfly Effect

Lisa Petrarca

As a little girl my sister & I loved to catch the "black furry caterpillars." We would get a shoe box, punch dozens of air holes in the top. Then it was time to scour around the neighborhood looking for all the décor. Lots of broken tree branches with bright green leaves still attached, Small twigs, grass, and a little dirt. We wanted our new pet to feel right at home in his new environment. Finding the...

Take The Gift

Crossing the busy intersection, there stood "Moses," a local street preacher who received his name from the people in town. He can be seen on any given day at the Huntington Beach or Newport Beach Pier. He doesn't shout out or yell at people as they pass by, he stands at the corner, while people wait for the light to change. He reads from the Bible, verse after verse, hoping that God will use him to touch someone's life. He has...

The Aging Eagle

Lisa Petrarca

Every morning I make sure and do a half hour bible study, then turn on the t.v. to watch Joyce Meyer's at 8:00 a.m. I turn it up really loud so I can hear it while I'm in the bathroom getting ready for work. She told a GREAT true story about Eagle's that I wanted to share. As an Eagle ages, his feathers start to wear down, his beak gets covered with barnacles and his claws are worn and not quite as sharp. As he fly's low to swoop..

God Can You Hear Me?

Lisa Petrarca

Yesterday on a brisk, windy, sunny day we took our dog Allie to the beach. This is always a very special, joyous day for her. She is a Siberian Husky. When you own a husky you're told to never let them off their leash. They have a natural inborn instinct to run. Over the years we have slowly trained her. On our beach visits we let her off the leash. She runs a little ways, jumping, sniffing and playing and then always stops,...

Riding The Big Waves

Lisa Petrarca

"I'm too scared...I can't touch the ground out there," Josh shouted as he continued to stay close to shore. The crystal clear blue waves, perfectly formed, came crashing to the shore in a foam of white wash. Josh happily jumped on his board as the foamy white water approached, standing up on his board and riding it for a few seconds to the shoreline. My husband tried to coax Josh out to where the real waves were. He...

Is God Waiting For You?

Lisa Petrarca

My husband and I decided to spend a quiet day at the beach on Sunday after church. We walked down Main Street, ate lunch and then headed to the pier and sat down on a bench overlooking the ocean. We were spending some much needed alone time, watching the surfers, talking and just hanging out. A team of street dancers walked up and told everyone who was sitting around to please hang out because they would be performing...

Starting Over: Make a U-Turn List

Lisa Petrarca

Today I was thinking back on all of my old hopes and dreams. So many things that I thought I would've accomplished by now. It's funny how our dreams as kids often turn into our biggest regrets as adults. I think I can describe most of my life as a U-turn. At first very excited about my new travels...but after a few miles, I stop cold and make my U-turn back to my comfort zone. Here's my list of U-Turn dream jobs growing up (they..

Christmas- A Gift of Faith

Lisa Petrarca

This Christmas will be different than any we've had before. We received an early "GIFT" that became an unbelievable blessing. A white envelope was slipped into my husbands hands at our son's football game. The friend gave specific instructions not to open it until he got home. He put it into his pocket and came to sit beside me telling me what had just transpired. I curiously looked at it, "What is it?" "I don't know but we have to at..
