SUCCESS CENTRE: A PLACE WHERE YOU FIND YOUR PURPOSECharles Magaiza (192) ![]() Purpose Clinic Hiv/ Aids or Other Chronic Disease- (coping With a Life Threatening Diagnosis)Posted Monday, November 05, 2007 (2 years 19 days ago.) Viewed 41 times. Dealing with a diagnosis of chronic disease or condition Our generation is faced with many chronic diseases that were never faced by the generations that have gone before us. In Africa , the nations have to content with any alarming rate of HIV and AIDS. The medical field keeps discovering new diseases. With all this around us, the question is how can we find our purpose in this world and pursue it. Handling an HIV diagnosis When a diagnosis for any medical condition is given to you, it is important for you to identify someone to turn to for support. HIV is not an exception in this. With the stigma that is often associated with HIV, it is always more difficult for many people to share their state with someone else. There is always a fear of resentment and rejection. It is up to the person to share this information or not but you must understand that at that stage, there is a great need of moral support from someone who will stand with you as you go through the situation. Trying to go it alone is always a great challenge. Talking to a caring person about your HIV status can be a stressful experience. You must do it in such a way that you do not suddenly overload them with all the information. By not sharing your status, you might deprive yourself of support that you desperately need. Get Peer and/or Professional Support Consider joining a support group or talking with a counselor individually. You must decide what form of support will be most helpful. When you join a support group, it allows for information about coping with HIV to be freely shared in a supportive environment. Counsellors are available at your local office of the Department of Social Services or church. You must make sure you find someone you are able to share your exact feelings with so that they will know exactly how to help you. Research and get more information Endevour to get more information about your condition! Look for inspirational stories of people who have been through the same condition and they lived through it. You degree of motivation is key to your overcoming that condition or sickness. If you grow discouraged and give up, you give the condition the go ahead signal. If this happens, you may reduce the period that you can survive. Find someone who is knowledgeable on the condition that you can work with, ask questions, and address your concerns. This can be a medical doctor. Associate with other people with the same condition that are surviving it and leading normal lives irregardless. Substance Abuse and HIV Coping with HIV can be a struggle coupled with drug or alcohol use. Some people turn to drugs or alcohol as a method of escaping the difficult feelings of an HIV diagnosis. This behaviour is definitively self-destructive behavior. Using drugs and alcohol places an additional strain on someones immune system and makes it difficult for them to carry activities they need to in order to fight HIV. If you have landed in a problem with drugs or alcohol, ask for help fast. If you continue deferring dealing with a substance abuse problem, the more you put your body under strain. The result of which will be an extreme demand on your immunity system. Lead a healthy lifestyle Many people living with HIV continue to lead active lives after they are diagnosed. By working closely with your doctor and leading a healthy lifestyle, you can continue to lead a happy and productive life. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." Winston Churchill, 1941 Yesterday I was speaking to a friend and he shared with me words that were profound and I felt I should share these words with you too. Life is a constant challenge and it is those that despite the challenge see the joy that is ahead and succeed in life. In life, it is easy to perceive the storms as destructive and wasteful. This friend was driving in an open road one day and he saw that he was driving into a strong wind which was carrying many objects in it. His first reaction was obviously to view this storm as a potential danger. As he started reacting, his inner voice spoke to him and said, "Don't afraid of the storm, it is carrying seed with it. Without it, there would be no cross-pollination." Your storm is carrying a life giving seed Your storm today is necessary; it must take you to the next level! You might say this is a strong statement but let's develop it further. As I was growing up, I never knew the purpose of the lightning. I actually thought it was wasted energy, un-harnessed potential that gives instant bright light and disappears as soon as it appears. Yesterday though, I was enlightened! I realized that even the lightning is necessary and it holds a great purpose in the great scheme of things. The lightning gives fertility to the soil and it is a good thing for plant life and for human life. The soil needs nitrates, which is a combination of oxygen and nitrogen. The only problem is that nitrogen is practically inert and it does not easily combine with other chemicals. It can only fuse with oxygen under intense heat. The intense heat generated by the lightning bolt causes the nitrogen in the air to combine with the oxygen. This also combines with some of the ammonia in the air and as the rain begins to fall, it gives life giving fertilizer to the soil. When the lightning flashes and when the thunder roars, get ready for some fruitfulness When the soil receives the rain, it in turn gives life to the seed! The seed is fertilized and the plants are energized for their full potential. The lightning that appeared threatening to them is a source of their growth. When the lightning flashes and when the thunder roars, get ready for some fruitfulness. Refuse to be frightened! If you were busy with something and it appears you have hit a storm don't give up, find a way through the storm. A pilot of a plane will either drop altitude or raise altitude, he doesn't land the plane. His mission is to get people to the next airport despite the threat of the storm. Your life should not be cut off by that storm, there is still the best ahead of you and today you must be enthused with new strength. Storms will come in different forms and shapes; you might be in a business storm, relationship storm, educational storm, professional storm! Whatever shape or form of your storm, never, never give up! I smell some change The only constant thing in life is change. This means that whatever you are facing today is subject to change. There is no way it will remain like that. Today's ant hills were yesterday's mountains. They became ant hills because someone dared to challenge them. Sir Edmund Hillary was the first man to climb Mount Everest on 29 May 1953 . He was knighted for his efforts. Normally this is all we are told but we must rewind back to a year before, 1952! He attempted to scale the 29,000 ft mountain but failed. He was invited to speak to a group of people who recognized his wonderful attempt at greatness. He had no words to say because he felt he was a failure but there is something he said and did which I believe was the foundation of his 1953 success. He made a fist and pointed at a picture of the mountain and in a loud voice he said, " Mount Everest , you beat me the first time, but I will beat you the next time because you have grown all you are going to grow... but I am still growing." You are growing everyday of your life and the truth is the same can't be said of your mountain. Tap into that growth and access the brand new strategies it is offering you. You failed because you said you would fail The storm must break your spirit first before it breaks your bones. If it fails to break your spirit, there is no hope for it ever breaking your bones. In the middle of the storm, refuse to lose your heart! In you is the stuff that champions are made of. Every champion that I know was ordinary at one point until they dared their mountain. Their victory resounded in the globe and they received recognition for it. If you analyzed them before the success, you would not at all be their friend, let alone admire them. A lasting legacy is born and bred in the storm! You failed because you imagined failure, you saw failure, you spoke failure and you became a failure. Never give in, never give in...let these words reverberate in your spirit today. Never give in, never give up...NEVER! Charles Magaiza, Purpose Clinic. What is your passion? Why are you pursuing that career? Are you presently what you have always dreamed of becoming? Do you feel stagnant do you see a dead-end ahead of you? Has your mind reached a dead-lock of ideas?
In life we reach dead-ends when we say so and when we reconcile ourselves with that confession! There is no place we can be that is void of a way out unless we stop searching for that way and give our lives over to 'what-will-be-will-be.' There is a solution right inside of you. Many people have found great opportunities in the field that you are pursuing and many more others are frustrated by it, the difference being the attitude that exists in these two groups of people.
I began my career in a transport company, it sure looked like a dead end but what I was then is not what I am today. I told myself I was going to be better than what I was. I did not consider my situation then as permanent. I looked at it as my road to a better future. I could barely raise my rental from that job and buying a loaf of bread was an investment. A river will go through rocky terrain but there is a better course ahead of it. As it meander the course before it, it will surely reach a place of smooth flowing. The greatest encouragement is the one that you build right inside of you. It is the motivation that you give yourself to succeed that will cause you to make it in life. If you don't raise your personal motivation, you are bound to fail and to be frail in the face of the challenges of life.
Life is not determined by where you begin but by where you want to go. Cease to look at your past experiences as being the determinant factor of your success. I am personally challenged by a young South African swimmer called Natalie Du Toit. She was involved in an accident in which she lost her leg. This experience did not kill her swimming career it seems to have fueled it. She has continued persisting in her career and is collecting gold medals in worldwide swimming tournaments.
What are your personal goals and what is your vision? Where do you want to get to? What is your destination in life? When you are clear on the answers for these questions, you can then develop the necessary hunger that will propel you to that place. Without hunger, you sideline yourself to the mundane. Hunger will drive you to read more in your area, it will coerce you to seek more until you are so shaped and empowered to match your dream! Visualize it and you will become it! You become what you see, if you see dead-ends you become a dead-end! You will become stagnant and others will start smelling the stench that is consistent with stagnant waters. Opportunities will elude you and you will be stuck with those people that have already failed.
Change your mindset about yourself that is the first STEP to a life of greatness. There are many opportunities around you beckoning you to ride on them! These are not seen by a mind riddled with traditions and preconceived concepts. They are only identified and exploited by people with minds that are prone to change and are excited to do new things. They are for those that are kin to see beyond the barriers.
Today you must change your thinking processes. Your physical limitations will remain as long as your mental limitations are still intact. Today you must deliberately start setting goals for your life it is yet possible for you to match your lifetime dream. Awaken the super achiever in you. The ‘dead-end’ that was imposing itself on you is not real but only the creations of a mind that has given up!
