At-Home Bath Treatments

Posted Thursday, August 07, 2008 (1 year 108 days ago.) Viewed 10 times.

When you need to squeeze in some well-deserved "Me Time," head for the bathtub! In this article read about some simple ingredients and tips to help you draw the perfect bath for your health and beauty needs.

To moisturize dry skin:

  • Use Almond oil. Almond oil is a humectant that helps seal water into the skin and makes it one of the best moisturizers
  • Add two drops each of geranium, frankincense and rose oils to a warm bath and some calming lavender essential oil plus one big spoonful of sweet almond oil
  • Relax for 20 minutes
  • When you step out of the tub, your skin will be gorgeously scented and you should feel completely relaxed

To calm irritated skin:

  • Milk is a natural anti-inflammatory making it perfect for skin that has been irritated from shaving, sunburn, or windburn
  • The proteins and lactic acid in milk help remove dead skin
  • Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to a gallon of milk
  • Pour the whole thing into a tub filled with warm water
  • Relax as the milk's softening properties are released
  • There are also several ready-made, milk-rich bath products available in stores

To exfoliate your body:

  • Mud is a natural exfoliator that helps remove dead cells and leaves your skin looking smoother and more radiant
  • Mud is brimming with minerals, salicylic acid and plant extracts like marigold and rosemary
  • Look for a Mud bath for your next session of full body exfoliation

Tips for Soaking:

  • Prevent scents from breaking down under running water by drawing your bath first, then add 10 to 20 drops of essential oils and gently swirl them around.
  • Keep the temperature between 97 and 100 degrees. Any hotter bathwater than this will dry out your skin. Use a bath thermometer to check the temperature
  • Are you feeling like you got a fever? Take a cool-not-hot-bath (77 to 82 degrees), the combo of hot water and high body temp might leave you feeling lightheaded.

Removing Facial Hair Options

Posted Thursday, August 07, 2008 (1 year 108 days ago.) Viewed 10 times.

In this article you will find several methods for removing facial hair:

Tweezing

  • Quick, cheap and provides excellent results for both brows and chin
  • You will want to pluck one hair at a time in the direction it grows

Depilatory creams

  • Dissolve hair fast and effectively
  • Results last for up to 2 weeks
  • May irritate sensitive skin
  • Will need to pretest on forearm before using
  • Choose cream especially designed for the face
  • Do not apply to cuts or scratches

Shaving

  • Quick, simple and becoming more popular among women
  • Was once not recommend at all
  • The blunt ends may make the hair look thicker as it grows back in
  • Never shave dry skin
  • Use soap or shaving cream
  • Stay away from your brows to protect your eyes
  • Use a post shave product to keep ingrown hairs and irritation in check
  • I personally think shaving is best for legs and armpits, however, others may find good results with shaving facial hair.

Waxing

  • Gives you the best at-home results for eye brows and upper lips
  • Stings for just a moment
  • You will enjoy smooth skin for 2 to 4 weeks
  • For best results you will need to wait for hair to grow to inch before re-waxing
  • Try one of the no-heat gel waxing kits
  • If you are uneasy about doing it yourself, go to a salon

Electrolysis

  • Permanent hair removal done by sealing off the hair root with an electric current
  • Works for all body parts including the face
  • The cost varies from $30 to $60 for a 15-minute treatment
  • Requires a series of treatments
  • An electrologist inserts a fine needle into the hair follicle. A current travels to the needle's tip and seals off the root
  • Hair gets finer as finer after each treatment until it stops growing back
  • Removing the hairs can sting and temporary scabs will develop after treatment
  • Do not schedule appointments when you are premenstrual because your body will be more sensitive

Laser

  • Permanent hair reduction
  • Uses a intense pulsed light to damage hair growth at the root
  • Cost approximately $250-900
  • Takes about six treatments to destroy up to 80 percent of the hair
  • A cold gel is applied to the skin, then a laser is put over the area, the gel is removed, and the hair falls out over the next two weeks
  • Can reduce hair in large quantities for a long period of time
  • Feels like a pinch
  • Does not work for everyone
  • Works best on fair skinned people with dark hair

Four Spa Secrets to Beautiful Skin

Posted Thursday, August 07, 2008 (1 year 108 days ago.) Viewed 12 times.

Spas help to push your skin to the next level of being beautiful. After you receive a treatment or two you will be amazed at how different you look and feel. Why is that? Spas use special things to make you glow and combinations of certain ingredients and tested techniques to get that special look and feel after you leave their spa. You can actually do some of those same things at home and get the same results.

Spa Secret #1:

  • You need to spend a full 5 to 10 minutes on each body part exfoliating
  • Start at the shoulders and end at the toes
  • Although this sounds excessive, experts say it takes that long to get noticeably smoother skin
  • Use slow circular motions and apply pressure with your thumbs until the skin ripples
  • Apply your exfoliator on dry skin to create more friction and blast away dull layers

Spa Secret #2:

  • Pour warm whole milk into the basin for a pedicure treatment
  • The lactic acid in milk softens skin as well as any store-bought product
  • Add a handful of sugar to your exfoliator to make it grittier
  • Spike your favorite body cream with a little honey to make it even more moisturizing
  • Squeeze half a lemon into the bath the juice has natural acids that will brighten your skin

Spa Secret #3:

  • Slather on super size portions of your body lotion and scrubs to really nourish your skin
  • You will feel more pampered when you use the super size portions instead of just a little bit to make it go a long way
  • Think golf ball size instead of pinball size scoops
  • Stock up on moderately priced jumbo jars of products

Spa Secret #4:

  • It is possible to apply body creams and masks with a regular paintbrush to ensure an even coating all over
  • You should toss your skin supplies of loofahs and sponges, and especially the mesh bath poufs, out monthly to prevent the harboring of bacteria.

Commitment and Routine are the Keys to Housebreaking Your Shih Tzu Puppy

Posted Wednesday, August 06, 2008 (1 year 109 days ago.) Viewed 305 times.

Housebreaking is the most indispensable thing your Shih Tzu puppy must learn. Common sense should tell you why. Do you want your house to stay spic and span? Handle your Shih Tzu puppy's housebreaking well. Aside from the maintenance of your household hygiene, trained Shih Tzu is happy Shih Tzu. As creatures of habit, it's in their nature to keep schedules as pack animals. Here is how you should housebreak your Shih Tzu puppy:

Ideal Housebreaking Age

When your Shih Tzu puppy reaches the age of 8 to 12 weeks old, it's high time to begin housebreaking. Remember that adage that old dogs can't learn new tricks? It is true so why take chances?

Crate Help

Dog trainers suggest using a crate in housebreaking your Shih Tzu puppy. A crate is like a cage, with see-through bars and a locking door. Its size should accommodate well the Shih Tzu's size for it to move around in. It should be used like a Shih Tzu's bedroom. It is advised to not confine your Shih Tzu puppy in his crate for more than two hours at a time.

The reasoning behind using a crate in housebreaking your Shih Tzu puppy is that dogs will not dirty their sleeping areas. However, he may do so if you lock him in somewhere for longer than he can hold it in. Never use a crate to punish your Shih Tzu, it will backfire. Generally, Shih Tzu pups that are three-months old must eliminate every 3 hours, so you should lead him to a special outdoor comfort place more often.

Make Your Shih Tzu Puppy Learn Routines

Another tip is to leave the house through one door only. This door should be the one that you want the Shih Tzu to scratch to warn you about his being called by the nature.

Taking your Shih Tzu pup out at around the same times every day will be very beneficial for the both of you. This will help in establishing a routine, and will make him learn to hold it in until you become available to take him out.

Look For Clues

If the un-housebroken Shih Tzu is accustomed to roaming freely around the house, search for signs that show you he needs to do it. Be really observant enough of his behavior, i.e., heavy sniffing, circling an area, staring at the door with an intense look on his face, etc. If you catch him WHILE doing it, stop him with a quick grab of his collar and pull it up while saying "No" using your deep, stern tone (don't forget to use a deep, gruff voice when stating commands). Then, take him outside and let him finish what he is doing. Lastly, pat him on his head while saying "Good (his name)!" It is a must to make your Shih Tzu get used to being praised whenever he does anything that makes you proud. Giving him food as a reward when he does his business in the appropriate spot can help, too.

Patience is a Big Virtue

Like any training endeavor, housebreaking requires a lot of patience. If you definitely despise cleaning your Shih Tzu waste off your Persian carpets on an hourly basis and having your whole house smell like a public bathroom, you want the housebreaking to be successful in a wink of an eye, if not sooner.

Common Sense Makes a Lot of Sense

The use of common sense will aid you big time in dealing with your Shih Tzu puppy's housebreaking. Logical thinking should inform you to not give your Shih Tzu water before bedtime if his tendency is to pee often at night time. Catering to his schedule first will prove to be very helpful in making it gradually change into yours.

Aside from patience and common sense, consistency is also one of the important factors of this dog training activity. If you suddenly forget about the routines yourself, don't blame the Shih Tzu if he starts committing accidents more often. Remember that the stakes are high (dirty and malodorous house). If you would like success in this housebreaking feat or just about in any other training drills, don't treat it as a game. Allot enough time and commitment on your part.

Best of luck!
