Hormones in Children's School Milk!

Posted Thursday, May 14, 2009 (177 days 22 hours ago.) Viewed 27 times.

My daughter is now 3 years old and I have been blessed to find a preschool where I am allowed to make meal substitutions.

She still does not eat animal products and rarely eats sugar and that alone makes it impossible for her to just eat school provided meals... a sad reality for our children!

More and more our food is being tampered with and the milk given in schools, most likely contain genetically engineered ingredients and genetically engineered growth hormone called recombinant Bovine Growth Hormone (rBGH) that increases cows' milk production.

According to the Center For Food Safety, roughly 15 percent of all dairies (mostly large dairies) in the United States inject their cows with (rBGH). It is possible that at least 84 million gallons of milk from artificial hormone-treated cows were distributed through the school nutrition programs in fiscal year 2005-2006 – or about one out of five pints of milk offered in school cafeterias nationwide.

I always suggest organic foods but even that I find to not always be as healthy as we think. I recenlty bought some tangerines at WholeFoods Market (WFM) and when I brought it home, I found it had no seeds!

I was outraged because that is an indication the fruit is not a natural fruit and a potential allergen.  After visiting the company's website and confirming the fruit was a hybrid, I called WFM and was told that what they do not buy are Genetically Modified Foods (GMO), but man made food was okay...

Wow... I should not be surprised... have you noticed how it is increasingly more difficult to buy seeded grapes!?

Anyway... what can we do to be sure we and our children are getting enough calcium if we do not want to consume cow's milk?  Well, you may want to try organic goat's milk if you must have milk. Goats are a natural animal and not a hybrid and you may also consider Seamoss Bladderwrack and a grain called Amaranth, which contains two times more calcium than milk!

In the meantime, we can combine our efforts and help asking Congress to clarify that schools do have the option to purchase milk from cows that are not treated with artificial growth hormones. With nearly 430 million gallons of milk distributed through national school milk programs, we have to take action now to get artificial hormones out of our school milk!

Keep researching and please check out my other articles and our family forum.

Do you or your travel agent know was is a Direct Flight?

Posted Saturday, November 22, 2008 (351 days 1 hour ago.) Viewed 15 times.

Travel nowadays is not as fun and glamorous as in the yesteryears, however we all have to travel. Be it corporate or leisure, we will have to board a train, plane, cruise ship, ferry... well, you get the idea.

So you call a travel agent and tell them you want a direct flight from Los Angeles to Miami. Your agent books a PNR (Passenger Name Record) with requested flight and you end up stopping in DTW (Detroit, Michigan) and now you are furious with your travel agent, because you, your children, your grandma and the dog, not only stopped in DTW, but also had to change planes.

So, what is a Direct Flight, anyway?

A. A flight that makes one or more stops with no change of planes

B. A flight that makes one or more stops and may change planes

C. A flight that makes no stops

D. A flight that makes one or more stops with no flight number change

If your answer is D, you get a sticker!

A Direct Flight is a flight that makes one or more stops with no flight number change, however, there may be a change of aircraft. So, it is very important that you check the flight's operation so you and your customers are aware of any change of equipment.

I was amazed when I saw a major airline's TV commercial and they called a Non-Stop flight "Direct"...

An effective and safer Alternative to Mammograms

Posted Thursday, November 20, 2008 (352 days 8 hours ago.) Viewed 15 times.

Some of us ladies have never had a mammogram. Either because we have never gotten around to getting it done, or because we feel the radiation is unsafe or because we know there are effective alternatives to mammograms' high radiation.

Have you heard of Thermography?

According to an article from Mercola.com, Thermography uses no mechanical pressure or ionizing radiation, and can detect signs of breast cancer years earlier than either mammography or a physical exam.

Mammography cannot detect a tumor until after it has been growing for years and reaches a certain size. Thermography is able to detect the possibility of breast cancer much earlier, because it can image the early stages of angiogenesis (the formation of a direct supply of blood to cancer cells, which is a necessary step before they can grow into tumors of size).

Dr. Samuel Epstein, professor emeritus of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at the University of Illinois School of Public Health, and chairman of the Cancer Prevention Coalition, has been speaking out about the risks of mammography since at least 1992.

He says screening mammography poses significant and cumulative risks of radiation, particularly for premenopausal women, of which women remain uninformed. The routine practice of taking four films of each breast annually results in approximately 1 rad (radiation absorbed dose) exposure.

This is about 1,000 times greater than exposure from a chest x-ray which is broadly focused on the entire chest rather than narrowly on the breast. The premenopausal breast is highly sensitive to radiation, each 1 rad exposure increasing breast cancer risk by about 1 percent, with a cumulative 10 percent increased risk for each breast over a decade's screening.

The following was taken from the International Academy of Clinical Thermography's website:

"Breast thermography is a diagnostic procedure that images the breasts to aid in the early detection of breast cancer.

The procedure is based on the principle that chemical and blood vessel activity in both pre-cancerous tissue and the area surrounding a developing breast cancer is almost always higher than in the normal breast. Since pre-cancerous and cancerous masses are highly metabolic tissues, they need an abundant supply of nutrients to maintain their growth. In order to do this they increase circulation to their cells by sending out chemicals to keep existing blood vessels open, recruit dormant vessels, and create new ones (neoangiogenesis). This process results in an increase in regional surface temperatures of the breast.

State-of-the-art breast thermography uses ultra-sensitive infrared cameras and sophisticated computers to detect, analyze, and produce high-resolution diagnostic images of these temperature and vascular changes.

The procedure is both comfortable and safe using no radiation or compression. By carefully examining changes in the temperature and blood vessels of the breasts, signs of possible cancer or pre-cancerous cell growth may be detected up to 10 years prior to being discovered using any other procedure. This provides for the earliest detection of cancer possible. Because of breast thermography's extreme sensitivity, these temperature variations and vascular changes may be among the earliest signs of breast cancer and/or a pre-cancerous state of the breast.(3,6,7,8,9)

Breast thermography has been researched for over 30 years...

A physiological imaging procedure (thermography) cannot replace an anatomical imaging procedure (mammography). The two tests are "looking" for completely different pathological processes.

  • Thermography is far more sensitive than mammography. However, some slow growing non-aggressive cancers will only be detected by mammography. "

Did You Know Your Tires Have a Shelf Life?

Posted Wednesday, October 22, 2008 (1 year 16 days ago.) Viewed 302 times.

There was a time I believed companies were selling me safe products. There was a time I would say: "No! They would never deliberately harm a consumer!"

I did not know tires had a shelf life, but what does not surprise me is that reputable companies such as Sears and Goodyear knowingly sell unsafe aged tires and advertise them as "brand new".

A tire which is 6 years old and older starts drying out and becomes dangerous. The threads can come apart and at high speeds can be a deadly situation.

How to identify a tire's age? The last 3 or four numbers at the end of a series of letters and numbers, placed on tires as a requirement by the Department of Transportation, determine the age.

For example: 124 means this tire was manufactured on the 12th week of 1994.
3404 means this tire was manufactured on the 34th week of 2004

Even if a tire has never been used, if older that 6 years, it is not safe!
So next time you are ready to purchase new tires, you can be sure they are indeed new. See link below for a report on this serious issue.

    ABC News Report

As you can see from this report, they dare to ignore lives and are getting away with it!

Please share this information with everyone you know! This is a little known fact everyone should know about.
