Infertility Depression - The Cause Of Depression In Infertility

Posted Sunday, December 02, 2007 (1 year 356 days ago.) Viewed 113 times.

The issue of infertility depression has been long debated but who is right and who's wrong makes little difference to the person going through this mentally stressful time.

Is infertility depression real? You would be an extremely hard-nosed person to suggest depression caused by infertility issues is all in a person's head.

Consider this... a person with infertility problems and who is also in a depressed state of mind suddenly has their problems compounded. They are forced to deal with two problems instead of one.

Instead of overcoming depressive tendencies they must also deal with the emotions fertility issues bring. It takes a very strong person mentally to handle this.

How To Deal With Infertility Depression?

So how does one deal with this? The most recommended course of action is to tackle them individually. Deal with the infertility separate from the depression. If the fertility issues are not of an unexplained nature then there is still plenty of hope because in at least 80-90% of cases, the problem is located, rectified and conception is possible.

So in other words, deal with the infertiltiy on it's own merits. The chances of a happy outcome are good and the spin-off effect should have a profound impact on a person's depressive state.

What Is Infertility Depression?

It's reasonable to assume that infertility depression is different to the more typical depression cases. With infertility, it's a combination of a number of issues with the most damaging relating to jealousy.

Jealousy emotions not only lead the person suffering them to be depressed, but it can have devastating consequences on their relationships with others.

Anger, guilt and feelings of inadequacy all combine with jealousy to form a powerful cocktail of infertility depression. One way to combat this is to simply face the issue head on and work towards finding a solution for your fertility issues. Most times you will.

For those who never do, then there are some excellent sounding boards such as infertility forums to become part of and the good thing about these is, you will more than likely meet people in either the exact same predicament or those who have been there and overcome it. That sort of support is priceless.

Pregnancy Heartburn - 6 Easy Ways To Prevent Pregnancy Heartburn

Posted Sunday, December 02, 2007 (1 year 356 days ago.) Viewed 37 times.

The issue of pregnacy heartburn is common affecting between 30-40% of women during their pregnancy. Many dismiss it as part of being pregnant however, there are steps you can take to relieve the discomfort.

The truth is, pregnancy heartburn is caused in the most part by the same problems affecting the rest of the population. In short, digestive acids will slip through the LES(lower esophageal sphincter) back into the esophagus causing discomfort.

Relieving Heartburn During Pregnancy

During pregnancy, the chances of the LES not functioning properly are thought to be increased because of the additional pressure put on the stomach through extra weight.
Try it yourself; have someone sit on your stomach after a meal and watch the acid rise back up the digestive tract. It's a very uncomfortable feeling. Imagine how uncomfortable it will be for a pregnant woman.

Let's take a look at some of the steps you could take to avoid uncomfortable episodes of pregnancy heartburn:

1. Notice what you eat shortly before there is any sign of heartburn and make a note of it. Also make a note of what you drink.

2. Consider your current lifestyle and try to identify anything about it with a heartburn attack.

3. Try eating smaller meals. Instead of one or two large meals a day, split them up into five or six smaller ones. Once you've identified those foods and drinks which may be triggering an attack simply eliminate them from your diet. Talk to your doctor first because some of those foods may contain certain nutrients important to your pregnancy.

4. When you have had a meal, resist the temptation to either lay down or sit back with your feet in a raised position. This is a common catalyst for pregnancy heartburn. When you lay back you're inviting food to travel back up your digestive tract.

5. Elevate you head 4-6 inches when going to sleep at night. Use two pillows instead of one or even three if you currently use two.

6. Producing saliva can neutralize acid. Try chewing gum or sucking on candy to encourage saliva production. Saliva is a great way to form a barrier to any acids rising up from the stomach.

The Pain Of Infant Ear Infection

Posted Thursday, May 03, 2007 (2 years 204 days ago.) Viewed 146 times.

Dealing with infant ear infection can be a trying time for parents. Unlike older children, babies and infants can't tell the parent where the problem lies and usually it's a matter of looking for other factors.

A baby tugging on it's ears may be cause to suspect ear infection but studies have clearly indicated this is most often not the case.

Infant Ear Infections - Pain Is The Biggest Clue

Ear aches can come on very quickly and the accompanying symptoms will be pain and usually fever. Pain is obviously the biggest giveaway in toddler ear infections because make no mistake, they hurt!

This is one of the reasons if a child continually pulls on it's ear but appears to be in no discomfort at all that ear infection is usually ruled out. There could be a host of other reasons why the child is tugging it's ear such as teething, curiosity by the child, itching and yes, even habitual. A little like sucking the thumb. But what does an adult with their first child and no relative experience in this area do? The most obvious course of action is to head to the doctor.

Detecting Toddler And Baby Ear Infections

Children's eustachian tubes, the connection between the middle ear and the nose, are a lot shorter than those of adults. In fact, in babies, the Eustachian tube is at least one third the length of an adults so fluid drainage can become a problem.

Following a bout of cold and flu or allergy attack, babies can become more susceptible to developing an ear infection. The Eustachian tube can become blocked which leads to fluid gathering in the middle ear and not being released. Bacteria then breeds and if unchecked, swelling and pain, followed by fever, is usually the result.

If your baby suddenly displays a change in attitude such as becoming irritable and unco-operative, crys and screams often in short bursts then something is usually wrong and ear infection is usually one of the suspects. While there may be other reasons the child may be aggravated a visit to your doctor should be your first priority as they can quickly determine if there is infection present in the ear.

Although infant ear infections are common, they can be serious and without any diagnosis or treatment, ruptures to the eardrum are possible while in more serious cases, possible loss of hearing could be the result.

Did You Know?

In chronic cases of infant ear infection, a procedure which involves placing a small tube through the eardrum could be recommended. The tube helps prevent fluid build up and can reduce infection up to 50 per cent of the time. Essentially, the tube is designed to promote an effective drainage environment.

Recovering From Infant Ear Infection

There has been varied debate on the best course of action to treat toddler ear infections. While antibiotics are always an option, some believe over use of them could contribute to high incidence of recurring middle ear problems.

There appears to be growing support for treating the problem from a number of angles with a more rounded approach being taken. This includes diet and nutrition, the child's environment and emotional health. Preventing ear infection is not easy in children and you should discuss any preventative measures with your doctor.

What Type Of Coffee Filter Should You Use?

Posted Thursday, May 03, 2007 (2 years 204 days ago.) Viewed 1,249 times.

What's worse than running out of coffee first thing in the morning? Running out of coffee filters! I experienced this horrible feeling recently and such was my yearning for a cup of joe I swallowed my pride and made myself a cup of instant to keep me happy until the store opened. Hey, that instant wasn't so bad but I couldn't drink it on a regular basis.

So what about coffee filters? Ever pay much attention to them? I bet no one really does but they have quite an interesting history as you are about to discover in this article.

The History Of The Coffee Filter

It must have been a "Newton" moment for coffee filters back in the 1700's when a sock was used to make the first cup of filtered coffee. The story goes something like this... a person couldn't stand the sight of coffee grounds in his cup so used a smelly sock to filter it out. The idea must have had some merit because it caught on and the coffee filter was born. Metal filters followed and of course, present day, it's the paper filters which adourn the cupboards of most households who indulge in the little "black stuff."

Which Type Of Coffee Filter Do You Prefer?

Paper, gold or cloth coffee filters? It's your choice. Paper filters are obviously the most popular and most widely used and given their cheaper nature, the most affordable. Melitta coffee filters are just about the most recognised brand and are adaptable to either automatic or manual coffee makers. Do paper filters give off a paper taste? You know, I haven't really recognised it but then again, I'm not looking for it. More discerning tastes would probably pick it up.

Apart from Melitta, there are a variety of other coffee filters on the market including Bunn, Krupps and the more specialist versions from Chemex and Cuisanart. Believe it or not, filters really are an important part of the brewing process because without them, you'd end up with a horrible mess of grounds at the bottom of your cup and would be better off drinking instant... perish the thought!

It depends how technical you want to get when selecting a coffee filter. Do you have issues of whether there may be chemical contamination within the paper, whether it's high quality, whether the filter is lightweight or heavyweight or how evenly the water will flow through the coffee. I don't know about you but I tend to forget all those issues when the aroma starts to filter up my nostrils!

How about a gold coffee filter? Yes, they will be a lot more expensive and the question of practicality will be raised. But they do last a long time and those devoted users of the gold filter will swear by them.

Cloth Coffee Filters

The environmentalists choice no doubt but they are an excellent alternative to paper and of course, they last a lot longer. In fact, with proper care, a cloth filter can service your needs for several months. Cloth devotees will tell you there is extra flavor through a cloth filter and they are probably right.

Whatever method you choose to filter coffee, you need to remember one thing, make sure your filter is suitable for whatever type of machine you are using.
