My WritingsDebra Verville (668) ![]() Many Pregnant Women Not Getting H1N1 VaccinePosted Tuesday, November 03, 2009 (20 days 10 hours ago.) Viewed 161 times. As we are all well aware the H1N1/Swine Flu has been all over the media. This is a virus that we all hope does not hit our families. Doctors across the nation are recommending that patients get the vaccine as soon as it becomes available. Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center has just written a post on the tubal reversal blog about the H1N1/Swine flu and why women who are pregnant or trying to conceive should get the vaccine. One of the most alarming facts is that a person can get both the H1N1/Swine flu and the seasonal flu at the same time. I cannot even imagine how bad this could be. The virus seems to be hitting both pregnant women and children especially hard. I was recently reading an article on how many pregnant women are choosing not to get the vaccine. It has been proven with the seasonal flu vaccine that if the mother gets vaccinated while pregnant the fetus builds up an immunity thus making it safer after birth. An infant cannot be vaccinated for the flu until after three months of age. A recent news release by the HHS showed that pregnant women receiving the H1N1 had a dramatic rise in immunity toward the virus. The H1N1 vaccine has been well tolerated by the individuals receiving the single dose. This is good news as we have already had 28 deaths of pregnant women here in the United States. If a woman chooses to get the vaccine she not only chooses to protect herself but her child. Newborns have little immunity except for what is passed to them by the mother. This is not counting the fact if the mother contracts this virus while she is still pregnant. High fevers have been known to cause problems with the developing fetus. And if the mother is not well her immune system is already stressed due to being pregnant and this alone can make her more susceptible to getting sick. Will you be getting the vaccine? If not, could you share the reasons? We are all trying to learn what is the best thing to do. Many women are now choosing to have tubal reversal surgery after tubal ligation instead of the alternative of IVF. Not only is tubal reversal surgery less expensive it has a better overall pregnancy rate. But what happens if the fallopian tubes block after surgery? This is a huge question among women who are researching tubal reversal surgery or those who have already had it and are not conceiving right away. Many times the tubes may not be blocked but it is one of the first things that come to mind. Blocked tubes can happen after tubal reversal surgery. This is one of the things that can happen and for a surgeon to tell you that it won't happen is not right. What the leading tubal reversal surgeon gives for advice is to wait a year and if you still have not conceived then have a test called a Hysterosalpingogram (HSG). What this does is check the tubes with a dye to make sure there is no blockage in the fallopian tubes. The problem with the HSG is that many times the person performing the test is not reading the results right or one of the fallopian tubes will spasm and the dye will not pass through the right way thus being read as a blockage. Dr. Berger and Dr. Monteith of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center have seen inaccurate results on a regular basis. The first thing they do is when they hear from a tubal reversal patient stating she has had the HSG a and the results are showing blocked tubes is to have the results sent to them right away. Many times the test results are inconclusive thus giving the wrong results. Many times the tubal reversal patients are in shock when they do not feel right to find out they are pregnant after being told there was no chance of conceiving. The main thing to remember is that if you have had tubal reversal surgery and are told you have blocked tubes this may not be the case at all. All too many women have given up hope and thrown in the towel only to find out their dreams are about to come true. If you are researching tubal reversal surgery it would do you good to have a look at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center's website and read the vast amount of information and have a look at the videos. Tubal reversal surgery is a huge decision and the better educated a person is the better-informed decision that can be made. It's amazing in today's world you turn on the media and nine times out of ten you hear nothing but bad news. Between the wars and gangs and new sicknesses that are hitting the world it seems to never stop. There is good news to be found and read about and many times you do not have to look too far. For the millions of couples who are trying to conceive or who want children it is possible after having a tubul ligation or having their "tubes tied". Many times women who have had their tubes tied change their minds and want to have more children. There are many reasons why women and couples change their minds and the great thing is it is possible. Just recently a 46-year-old woman who had her tubal ligation reversal in November of 2007 gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. For those couples that are considering IVF this couple also tried that route and it failed. The great thing with tubal reversal is it is possible to try to conceive every month naturally. The statistics at Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal are their own and are updated regularly for those wishing to see them. Recently it has been noticed that some tubal reversal physicians have been using these statistics and not their own. For those considering tubal ligation reversal surgery the more research that is done the better the knowledge you will receive and more able to make an informed decision. There are very highly trained physicians that have spent many hours and years training to be able to give women and couples the chance to have a family. One of those physicians Dr. Berger of Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal Center has studied overseas and the tubal reversal surgery at the center is completed in about an hour on an outpatient basis. Recovery from tubal reversal surgery takes about a week and the average for pregnancy is usually within a year from the date of surgery. Viewed 78 times. For many couples wanting to have children the word infertility is a very scary subject. Many times they go from doctor to doctor trying to figure out what is wrong. Many times the couple is having trouble due to the woman having blocked or damaged fallopian tubes. Blocked fallopian tubes account for about 25 percent of infertility in women. There are many reasons this can happen here are some but not all: Infection Adhesions Polyps If the doctor feels that blocked or damaged fallopian tubes are the reason then they will perform a test called a Hysterosalpingogram. This test is an x-ray of the fallopian tubes and the uterus. A technician in most cases in the hospital will perform it. This test is looking for the shape of the uterus any blockage or damage of the fallopian tubes and to what extent the problem is. There are certain things your doctor will need to know before the test is performed. It is very important to be truthful and honest even though it is a hard subject to discuss. The patient will need to let the doctor know the following things:
The actual procedure should be performed three to five days after your menstrual period. For those with irregular menstrual cycles this may be hard to calculate but it is something that the doctor can deal with. The day of the test the best thing to do is try to stay relaxed. There will be a small amount of dye inserted to be able to look at all the areas that are in question. This will help the individual or technician performing the test get accurate results.
