IvanPetryshyn blogIvanPetryshyn (100) ![]() Ivan Petryshyn Let's Evaluate Each Other!Posted Wednesday, November 18, 2009 (4 days 7 hours ago.) Viewed 1 times. Again, you may agree or not, but when evaluating somebody or someone, one is involved in the operation which might be called mind interchangibility reflections evaluation (MRE). Actualyy, there are 2 parties - MRE1 vs MRE2: the initial situation of the MRE1 directed on the MRE2 is being corrected subconsciously into MRE1> the reflection as an integral part of the evaluation is also a reciprocal process: one never questions the honesty or the professionalism of another person unless his/her own are in default/at fault; the tools, procedures and measures of the evaluation process very often can be the quetion of the memory of the evaluated who is to be very attentive to demand the available accurate means or evidence of the evaluation presupposing that bothe MRE1 and MRE2 have enough or sufficient knowledge and stamina to undergo the process of the evaluation and are ready to risk the possible outcome of the evaluation proper- the weakeness of any of the parties is revealed later when the real situation either proves the evaluation was adequate, accurate and objective or staged, "ordereed" to prove the opposite, and subjective; the most important part of any evaluation is the level of the moral standards of the two parties, either adequate or not, either human and humane or to certain extent antropocentric, egocentric, altruistic or mysanthropic- the real aim of the evaluation can always be recognized by the preceeding and following events, by the accuracy and the register/style of the situation, by the mutual interdependence of the social roles, either to support the evaluated or to dismantle/ruin his/her reputation, social standards or importance which can be always proved, depending on the goal and the strengthes of the evaluated; any kind of evaluation, voluntary of required/demanded always depends on the experience, education and knowledgibility of the parties involved; very often , it is not the question who and by whom the evaluator has been given the right to evaluate, it is the question of the real aims of the evaluating party who, for the most, depends on the 3rd party which has hired it; to expect or not to expect the adequacy and the objectiveness of the evaluation is the question of the concrete authority given by another possibly similar authority provoked by another party to prove the already documented ( to make the previous evaluators feel comfortable about the what they have done / even if they have been mistaken, very often on purpose/) or to deprive them of the previously entrusted authority to do it / again on purpose/; one can fight with the questionable or inferior evaluation in the very same way as one is contesting untruthful statements/realities in the legal procedures. Ivan Petryshyn Permalink Comments (0) Ukrainian and Russian Word's "Plemya" CorrelationsPosted Monday, November 16, 2009 (6 days 9 hours ago.) Viewed 7 times. The Ukrainian and Russian word " 'plem"ya"/" 'pliemya" has very interesting phonological correlations in other languages that unveal the sense and the anthropological meaning of the morpheme. Let us only resort to the Ukrainian word " 'plomin' " / flame/ and the Russian word
" 'plamya" that has its Latin counterpart " 'flamma". The English word "fire" , the German word "Feuer" find its correspondences in the Romance Languages - "fuoco" /Italian/ with the stem "fuoc- foc-, fueg-" - the Spanish word "fuego". The Germanic same-sense words like "furnace" do confirm the similar origin of the word. Even the word "plague" comes from the same "fire" meaning a red burning wound. One cannot forget the Slavic words " 'khora/khor" (people/choir) either, that has a close correlation with the Latin "forum". The Slavic " plam" = Romance "flam/fiam", like in the Italian "fiamma". The Ukrainian "plome'nity" prompts the English "flow" which is related to the Old Slavic/Russian "proistye'kat' ", namely, ' to "flow". It is beyond doubt that the "fire" and the "flow" have the very same sense - to come from, to originate. So, the word "PLEMYA" has the meaning of to be originated from. It is interesting to note that the English word "tribe" has been originated from the Latin word "tribus" (the division of the people) which by its phonetic correlation is close to the Ukrainian word "drobyty" ( to separate into pieces). The later derivatives "tribu' ", "tribut" are very close phonetically to the Slavic "trieba", "tryb" /in the meaning of a signal/sign/symbol/totem/ and is very close to the Polish word "trzyb" /way of life/. By irony, it re-echoes with the Ukrainian word "tryvaty" /to continue/ which has the possible meaning of the tribe's continuance. It is very symbolic that the Ukrainian language has a saying "rosty, yak trava" / to grow as fast as grass/ - one of the elements of which is the morpheme "trava" phonetically close to the word "tribu/s". Naturally, the TR consonant combination could have its counterpart as DR, and the intermediate B as V/F/L/Y'/ZH. Thus, the Ukrainian words "DRuZHyty" /make friends, come together, unite/, DRuZHyna" /a military unit having the same assignment//mission/. The Germanic "treiben" /to do/ with the meaning of "to work together"/,the Spanish word "trabajar" or the French "travailer",the Slavic word "tru'dytysya" (to toil) have the same sense of some cooperational unity functioning of the people. On the other hand, the German "Traube" /grape/ and the Latin word "trabes" (tree, trunk, beam), have the same sense of some unity/unification/duration or the origin which is closely connected with the sense of the "flow" in "plamya" . Let's not forget here the Ukrainian dialect word "TLUM" / crowd/ which has its phonological/lexical correspondence to the word "tribe": TR+V+b=TL+V+m. The Mythologies of the Germanic and the Slavic nations present several well-identified characters - "Thorn", "Thurn", "Dohr"/ "Doern" who are believed to be the ancient gods of the heavens' fire , the Thunder, and have its Slavic "partner" in the image of "Perun", "Pierun" or "Pern": P=F > Pern= Fern= Thorn. The Indian Mythology "Agni" has a direct correlation to the Slavic " vo'hon' ", "a'gni/a'gon' ". The sense of the originating is closely connected with that of the Leader of the tribe, "plemya", " 'plamya", " 'plomin' ", "fire". Just to mention " 'pershyy", "first", "fueren". It is evident that the Ukrainian word "pe'red ("vesty pered"), the Polish "przo'd" have its linguistic correlations in "primus", "principuus", the "prince". The Ukrainian or Russian "knyaz' " has its coded sense in the "reign", "rex/regis", "regere", "regno" and "dirigere" with the meaning ' to lead, to be the first". The understanding of one leader, one head, has its correspondences in different languages: "nachal'nyk" which means "to be the head, the main, the leading (Cf.: Ukrainian and Russian "cho'lo/chie'lo" with the meaning of the forehead). Thus, a well-known word "cap", the Italian "capo", the Latin "caput" have the relative morphemes in "cupola'/"kupol" with its meaning " covering, being on top of smth". The word " 'vozhd' " /chief/ has a number of the phonologically close morphemes in the same language: " vo'dyty" (to lead), "vo'lodar" (lord), " 'vlada" (power), " 'vesty" ( to lead; Cf: German "fuehren"), " 'vazhyty/ rozva'zhaty" (decide, think about/ponder on) or the Polish "wo'dz" (Cf.: Ukrainian "vo'dyty" or the German word "fuehren"). The above-mentioned, allows us to state that the word " 'plemya" has its origin from the word "plamya"/ "fire" as the main uniting and life-giving artificially produced substance "o'chag"(Russian) or "furnace" (English). The meaning of a necessary leader of a tribe, " the first" correlates with the sense of the "caput" (head), very widely used in the Languages even today. The sense of the word "chief" has been already discussed in another article. Ivan Petryshyn USA Permalink Comments (0) Review of the Book By Jane Hill: the Same and the DifferentPosted Saturday, November 07, 2009 (15 days 12 hours ago.) Viewed 9 times. HIC EST AUTHOR. HIC EST IUDICIUM. HIC EST LIBER. THERE'S AN AUTHOR. THERE'S AN OPINION. THERE'S A BOOK. BOOK ANNOTATION: JANE HILL, THE EVERYDAY LANGUAGE OF THE WHITE RACISM.- WILEY-BLACKWELL, A JOHN WILEY & SONS, LTD. PUBLICATIONS, 2008. -224 PP. The book gives a fair chance to get acquainted with some views of race relations, oppressive facts,a linguistic anthropology insight into the problem. The meaningful language expressiveness, creative or hackneyed and immitated, very often found in the media sources reveal the origins of distrust and hatred, the painful unjust rejection srereotypes, the occasional discomfort of the notion of the White racism. The study gives a reader a good understanding of what is the racism and what is/could be the anti-racism. For some, it could be as something out of place and out of time, for others- a typical feature of behaviour. The shocking words used to describe another human being are banned or are to be banned, still being a part of historical vocabulary stock of the language. All the epochs, all the historical events that lead to the contemporary scientifically proved understanding of the equality among the races, all the Laws, as well as the actions, events and examples of different races co-existance, respect and friendship do confirm that the "White racism is the past" but many people still state they experience that disgusting and by-no-means fair experience in their everyday lives. The definitions of bias, unacceptance, prejudice, hatred do give us the possibility to see the real reasons for the existance of the historically unfair feeling of inferiority. Very often the impossibility of being sure one is acting or conducting himself/herself correctly leads to barring oneself from possible friends or acquaitances of the people of color,- to avoid the unnecessary problems caused by possible misinterpretation, misunderstanding or different mentality. The question of advantages and disadvantages of this or that race proven statistically still is showing some disparities, what very often is taken for inequality due to cultural or even educational differences. The author of the book is right saying that the former oppressed "were never compensated for their exclusion" from the benefits created by the whole nation, the first being a part of it. The anthropological theories and studies seem to be very good evidence of the realia that existed or the ones which still exist in a society. The Folk Theory and the Critical Theories of the problem confirm the still-prevailing misbeliefs or misinterpretation of the notion known as 'racism'. The present day strategies of the racism-focused individuals include one of the most 'diplomatic' hating actions as 'erasure', inattention, ignoring, boycotting, 'zeroing' a personality making one a non-existing being, not even human. The daily communication in regards to the long-time established stereotypes, taught, educated, prompted, professed by some groups, makes them either stronger, neutral or weaker depending on the situation and interests. They seem to have been winning all the time. They seem to be a reliable defense against the uknown, not well-known, different and, thus, mistakenly alien. It is rather a psychological issue than anything else: the man is always afraid, mistrusts another, especially if another person is different. It is a ready-made pattern: "if I am not trusted, then why should I trust another person who, moreover, is different than I am?". And again: the stereotypes can be changed only with positive actions of another (different) group. Seeing that another individual, though different, can be trusted and relied on, a stereotype-obssessed person could change his mind, slowly, gradually, but could. It is the most important assignment and task of the Society to gain that goal through Education, through opening possibilities, through Justice and Media. Experientia facet vitam. One can recognize another only in case that the other recognizes the credentiae vitae et educationim of his, too. It is a matter of time when the Sociums change or are ready to change. It is the fault of the previous well-spread theories that one race mistrusts another. Every situation is very concrete, everyone's experience is very pragmatic and practical. A suffered person won't immediately trust a representative of another group to whom he can erroneously assign negative characteristics of an 'enemy' due to the fact that he had been humiliated by one of the group's representatives. The mass or popular consciousness tries to find its 'correctness' in historical or accidental, or, even incidental events though they haven't suffered from them directly, or, if they did, they will always be caucious about any type of communication with the previously discredited by themselves representatives of the socium, group, class, nation, race. Only mutual business interests can pacify the possible 'rivals' for a shorter or longer time needed for the project to be completed. The stereotypes will still be alive but their priority will vanish due to the positive communication outcome and results. The diversity as to educational, personal, social, business, property, religious or other markers will always exist. The antagonism will be weakened only on the basis of the mutual interests. Neither isolation nor mixing do not resolve all the problem as the notion of the 'racism' is generated not so much in the minds of the people but in the language itself. The linguistic 'racism-marked' vocabulary is very close to that of a national bias. The linguistic competition of two or more languages that co-exist on one territory of the socium supports the lingual interdependence and enrichment through various linguistic creativity factors such as humor, joking, even mockery, friendly or not quite friendly, which in some situations can be sensitive for another party and can be taken as enimosity. The acceptance or rejection is always a regulation which has very deep social roots and personal reasons. The general human values development is the most important weapon in the battle agaist racism, bias or hatred. It is always the issue of mentality and the vision of life that make us choose correctly or incorrectly. The same result can be obtained in different ways. Only the result is to be positive whichever were the procedures. The book is interesting and very instructive: it gives a fair opportunity to come to the understanding of the realia of which we are already aware, about which, at times, we try not to think or are afraid of thinking. It is a mutual assignment of all to participate in the most difficult long-term campaign to illiminate the very notion of the vice, be the racism White or not.
