Putting the gavel downJudge Dred (628) ![]() Healthcare Protests - Stop The Madness!Posted Thursday, November 05, 2009 (2 days 8 hours ago.) Viewed 118 times. Ladies and Gentlemen, I have had enough.
The images and sounds emanating from Washington D.C. on November 5, 2009 from the steps of the Capitol Building, were just sickening.
What in the world were the Republicans thinking when a sign was used the with words "National Socialist Health Care, Dachau, Poland - 1945" superimposed over a picture of a mound of corpses of people who were killed in that concentration camp? What in the hell do they think they are doing? Equating healthcare reform in 2009 with the Holocaust? Simply mind numbing, there is no excuse for this. Two of the many speakers at the "press conference"? Rep.Michelle( Out of touch with reality)Bachmann of Minnesota and Rep.John (I love the healthcare industry) Boehner of Ohio.
It is time for any and all legislators to stop prostituting themselves for the healthcare industry. Elected members of Congress are supposed to carry out the will of the people that they represent, not their personal agendas. If Bachmann or Boehner had something intelligent to say, they should have denounced the "Socialist Health Care" sign. They did not, so they are willing accomplices in this travesty. Bachmann thinks "A revolution every now and then is a good thing"? Had this been said during the administration of G.W. Bush, that person would have been locked away under the pretense of "national security." By the way, when Boehner can tell the difference between the Constitution and the Preamble of the Declaration of Independence, he should issue a press release proclaiming his knowledge of American history.
To the idiots that attend rallies, tea bag parties or "press conferences" screaming " I want government out of my healthcare", do us a favor: get rid of your Medicare or don't accept it when your turn comes to utilize it.
It is one thing to protest policy. It is another to rally with that disgusting Dachau sign and signs with racist depictions of President Obama. This is the indication of the subtle statements that are being made by some of our fellow citizens - the Republicans do not control the White House, and there are those that have a problem with a African American Commander in Chief. There, I said it! The Republicans are the party of non inclusion of non white peoples (Black, Latino and Asian, to name a few) and they don't like different looking people making national policy.
Did I hear someone say Michael Steele? The man who doesn't like the healthcare proposals put forth by Democrats, but did not know what healthcare plan he belonged to? Just the man to lead the Republican Party!
Intelligent discourse has gone out of the window. We have returned to the good old days of scare tactics and the politics of fear.
Were there instances where Democratic congressmen went on television to invite people to join mass protests against the Iraq War, holding signs of G.W. Bush with a "Hitler" mustache drawn on them? I think not. Obama - Hitler and healthcare reform - Holocaust comparisons are disgusting, revolting - and racist. To the Republicans and any other lawmaker employing these repulsive tactics, do everyone a favor, resign and become what you truly are - healthcare lobbyists.
To the people who willingly go along with these repulsive tactics and actively participate in these protests - go to your nearest department store and buy a clue - there is no one in government that wants to kill your grandparents and the "socialist" government has been helping the elderly (yes, your grandparents) by providing Medicare for decades.
America needs healthcare reform, and we need it now! End the lunacy, and let us have all parties with legitimate concerns come to the table and hammer this out. All Americans must benefit from this effort, not the politicians and the healthcare companies who are obviously in bed with one another. Enough said.
Until next time (you know there will be).

Permalink Comments (9) Is Obama The Leader Everyone Hoped He Would Be In His Presidency? A Rebuttal.Posted Thursday, August 06, 2009 (93 days 16 hours ago.) Viewed 112 times. Healthcare reform is a currently a hot topic, as it should be. Debate on this issue occurs daily, as there is no perfect way to fix the healthcare system in our country. Debate is not a good sign? Blue Dog Democrats? Let's have a brief chat on this aspect of the healthcare argument. This has nothing to do with Obama's leadership skills. It has everything to do with the Republicans and the "Blue Dog "Democrats being obligated to the healthcare companies and their lobbyists. Go to this link provided by opensecrets.org, http://www.opensecrets.org/news/2009/07/committee-members-speak-outor.html and view the chart on the page. All the powerbrokers are there, Republican and Democrat, for all to see. Find your favorite legislator and see where he or she stacks up in relation to the amount of money received from lobbyists. Then take a look at how they would vote on the healthcare bill. Is this because of Obama's leadership skills? No, only lawmakers not being able to walk down the street due to the hands stuffing pockets and pocketbooks with healthcare company cash. By the way, where do the lobbyists get the money to purchase influence on Capitol Hill? Could it be some of the outrageous premiums charged to Americans by these companies that find their way into the hands of lawmakers? Nah, probably not. Let's also mention the town hall meetings where legislators are being shouted down by "outraged" citizens. Someone please state why there are not lively discussions occurring, as opposed to the shut them up mentality that is displayed by what are in effect, mobs. Why not hear what the legislators have to say, and then give opinions? Is this not what the meetings are for? It is obvious that the healthcare companies want this bill to die. The so-called "outraged Americans" would do better to pull their collective heads out of the sand, read the bill for themselves, and make their own decisions. Recite their own thoughts rather than those provided to them by lobbying organizations and their partners. Also, please quote the portion of the bill where the government will "kill old people". I can't find it anywhere. Bill Clinton saving the day and rescuing the two journalists held hostage by North Korea? You have got to be kidding! If anyone thinks that Bill Clinton did this on his own, I have a two for one sale for you, the Golden Gate and The Brooklyn Bridge for ten dollars! In case anyone has forgotten, North Korea upset the international community by test firing ballistic missiles and performing an underground test of a nuclear bomb. The Obama administration had no choice but to condemn North Korea for their actions. If Obama says nothing, he is a weak president. If he overreacts, there is the possibility of war. The hostage negotiations were handled through backchannels, out of public view, where the Swiss were of great assistance. North Korea supposedly stated, "If Bill Clinton comes, we will release the journalists". Not exactly Clinton riding in on his white steed, defeating the North Korean army, and taking off with the hostages. I must acknowledge my colleague, Missing Link, on his thoughts. Ms. Lee and Ms.Ling knew where they were and what they were doing. Do they not share some of the responsibility for their predicament? They were not fighting the war on terror. It not as if they were captured on American soil. I guess their capture was due to Obama's lack of leadership and not having it together. To combine Obama's stance on abortion with the journalists' situation is at best, mixing apples and oranges. Abortion is a separate and highly charged issue that has no place being mentioned in the same breath as captured journalists in North Korea. To say that Obama did not care about the journalists because he does not value the life of a child is simply ludicrous. That is nothing more than a sentence designed to inflame those that don't need much of a push to spew "Obama hate." As for the Hippocratic Oath statements, please show me where this is Obama's policy. Rahm Emanuel's brother makes statements, and now Obama is suddenly saying doctors take the oath too seriously because they order too many tests? That doctors should not save lives in order to drive costs down? That is ridiculous. Finally, Melissa Hathaway resigned her post as Cyber Security czar. There is a story in the Wall Street Journal (August 4, 2009) where Hathaway said she was leaving for personal reasons, and had removed her name from consideration for the permanent job two weeks prior to resigning. There are other items mentioned in the story, it can be found online. Senator Susan Collins is concerned about Obama's lack of leadership in cyber security? Yeah, she's in the same boat as the majority of the Republican Party. No big deal there. Cash for Clunkers ran out of money. Yes, apparently it did. Some lawmakers did not wish to fund it for its original amount (4 billion dollars) instead settling for 1 billion dollars. Not putting a blip on the reduction of pollution? How long has the program been in effect? Two weeks, maybe? We should see marked improvement with pollution in two weeks! Some of us are still reaching, so if only to make an argument for argument's sake. In conclusion, it appears that President Obama is being held to a higher standard than any of our past Commanders- in- Chiefs. Why is this? He has an Ivy League education and is a lawyer, like some of our recent presidents. He has not turned over our country to Middle Eastern terrorists, as was stated during the 2008 presidential campaign. When will everyone realize that if he turns things around, we will all prosper? Instead, we have the politics of fear morphing into the politics of ignorance and race baiting. If Obama does not do his job, he will be voted out in 2012. Let's stop throwing roadblocks in the way and have intelligent discussions about the issues and facts, and stop acting like petulant children that don't get their way. America, stop having a collective tantrum. Until next time. JD
Permalink Comments (30) Professor Henry Gates and Sgt. James Crowley - In Crowley's WordsPosted Sunday, July 26, 2009 (104 days 7 hours ago.) Viewed 245 times. Hello again, Ladies and Gentlemen. Welcome to the latest installment of Professor Henry Gates' meeting with Sgt. James Crowley of the Cambridge Police Department. There is an old saying that states, "Less is more." It seems that Sgt. Crowley did not stick to this little saying. Why? Look no further than the actual police report filed by Sgt. Crowley on July 16, 2009. It can be viewed at this link provided by The Smoking Gun, http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/years/2009/0723092gates1.html?link=eaf In viewing the report, along with the report supplement written by another officer who was present, this is a clear case of Sgt. Crowley losing his cool. Some of you may say that Gates went way over the top in his handling of the situation, and I am inclined to agree with that point. It is evident that Crowley was at Gates' home for a legitimate purpose, having responded to a radio call from his dispatcher of a possible burglary in progress. Yes, Sgt. Crowley is a human being, and he, along with all of us; have emotions running through us during our waking hours. However, here are some points to be questioned: 1 - Crowley responded to the scene and spoke with the witness while on the porch of the home in question, with his back to the door. This occurred as he responded to a possible life threatening situation, a call about a possible burglary. 2 - After entering the home, he sees a man later identified as Gates, who opens the door. Crowley enters the home alone, asking Gates if there is anyone else in the residence. He entered the home without awaiting backup from other officers. 3 - Gates is "uncooperative." No, Gates was more than likely taking every nasty verbal shot he could at Crowley, including the "racist police officer" and "you don't know who you're messin' with" statements. There were probably a few unmentionables thrown in for good measure by Gates. Although infuriating, that is not criminal conduct, not that Gates' actions are to be condoned, and they should not. 4 - Gates is identified with his Harvard University ID card and Crowley requests the presence of the Harvard University Police. Why? Gates is now identified, it is time to leave. Talk to the University Police outside. 5 - As Crowley leaves, Gates demands Crowley's name and badge, follows Crowley to the porch, where Gates is warned twice that he is becoming disorderly, in the presence of other police officers and citizens, and this warranted Gates arrest. Everyone present was "surprised and alarmed" at Gates' conduct? Complete nonsense! See this for what it truly is. Sgt. Crowley was incensed that he was being spoken to in what he felt was an abusive manner. The long explanation as to what he was doing inside Gates' home for the period of time he was there can not be justified. I'll say this again, when Gates was found to be in the home legitimately, it was time for Crowley to leave. Gates could not be arrested for disorderly conduct inside of the house, therefore "I will speak to you further outside", where the arrest can be made, in front of witnesses. That is the oldest trick in the book, and Gates fell for it. Crowley's report shows that he was attempting to cover his actions with police and citizen witnesses, as does the second report by Officer Figueroa. It never hurts to have friends backing you up, eh? The more Crowley writes, the deeper he sinks into the world of "I'm right, and I will make sure Gates is wrong". Unprofessional, at best on the part of Crowley. Law enforcement is one of the most difficult and dangerous jobs in the United States. However, let us not lose sight of one thing. In this case, Sgt. Crowley had the power to end this incident before it got out of hand. He was thin skinned this particular day, and by reading both reports, Crowley was trying to make his wrong action into a right action. Granted, Gates should have taken a more tactful approach, but nothing that he did rose to the level of a crime. I will leave you with this: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Both sides should have recognized that, but neither did. Just another lesson in this wonderful journey that we call life. Until next time. JD
