Healing Candida Albicans Fungal Infections Using Coconut Oil

Posted Thursday, August 28, 2008 (1 year 88 days ago.) Viewed 609 times.

First, just a short rant about my own experience with candida albicans and what I feel is the major reason why so many of us suffer from candida overgrowth.

It is my belief that one of the major causes of candida infections is the use, or overuse, of antibiotics. As a child I had to take antibiotics for several months to get well enough to have my tonsils removed. Because my mother was not told that the antibiotics would destroy the beneficial flora in my gut, I have spent most of my life since then with digestive disorders, yeast infections as well as a plethora of other health problems related to candida overgrowth. It was right after another prescription of antibiotics when I was 34 years old that my health completely crashed. I suffered with chronic and debilitating symptoms that I didn't understand until after hundreds of hours of research online. I started seeing a naturopathic doctor and it was discovered that I had systemic candida overgrowth.

So this is a very personal topic to me. Candida overgrowth took away a large portion of my life and the lives of many others. What is so frustrating is that this can be avoided if doctors would tell their patients that they need to replace the intestinal flora that is destroyed by the antibiotics they prescribe.

There are, of course, other causes of candida overgrowth and some of them are: poor diet (eating too much sugar), poor immune system, birth control pills, steroids or any other immunosuppressive drugs. Different forms of candida can manifest as: athlete's foot, jock itch, vaginal yeast infection, oral thrush, ringworm, digestive disorders, chronic fatigue, anxiety disorders, weight gain, etc. A large number of the health problems in America today are caused by the fungus Candida albicans.

Now to the topic of healing candida with coconut oil. Coconut oil is one of the best remedies I have found. It has a medium-chain fatty acid known as caprylic acid. Caprylic acid has been used for some time as a natural remedy for curing candida. In fact it was one of the remedies I used. I didn't, however, know that it came from coconut oil until the last couple of years. Since then I have kept coconut oil in my diet.

Caprylic acid is not the only active ingredient in coconut oil, there are three active ingredients. They are, caprylic acid, capric acid and lauric acid. These are medium-chain saturated fatty acids. You can find studies about these fatty acids and how each one of them is able to kill Candida albicans by researching them online. There are some studies that also show how coconut oil is more effective than perscription drugs.

What I love about coconut oil is you can use it both internally and externally. It is used topically for healing fungal skin infections and internally to kill candida in the gut as well as systemically. It can also be swished around in the mouth to cure oral thrush.

In areas of the world where people eat a traditional coconut-based diet there is almost never any yeast infections of any kind. Having coconut oil in your diet will help you keep candida and other fungal infections away.

In using coconut oil topically simply apply it directly on your skin. It absorbs real well and fast. You can add vitamin E to make it more effective. Internally you can take a tablespoon full of coconut oil and just eat it plain. I do this everyday. It really tastes pretty good. You can also use coconut oil to cook and to put in your smoothies. Just Google coconut oil and find out all the different ways you can use it and to find out more about how it can improve your health. Be sure and buy extra virgin coconut oil to get the best quality available.

Natural Cures and Remedies for High Blood Pressure or Hypertension

Posted Saturday, April 19, 2008 (1 year 219 days ago.) Viewed 223 times.

What is High Blood Pressure?

According to statistics, one out of every three adult Americans have high blood pressure. Blood pressure is defined as the amount of force that the blood uses on the veins and arteries as it circulates through the body. A healthy person's blood pressure should be around 120/80 mm Hg or even lower. Blood pressure that consistently measures 140/90 mm Hg or higher is considered high blood pressure.

If left uncontrolled, it may increase the risk of serious health problems including heart attack, kidney failure or stroke.

There are two types of high blood pressure:  First, there is primary high blood pressure in which there is no known underlying cause and second, there is secondary high blood pressure which occurs as the result of a medical condition or as a side effect from medications.

What makes high blood pressure so dangerous is that most people do not experience any symptoms, even when blood pressure readings are dangerously high. This is why it is called the "silent killer." However, some people may notice one or two of the following symptoms if their levels are consistently raised: headaches, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, increased nosebleeds.

What Causes High Blood Pressure?

For most people, the cause remains unknown, making primary blood pressure the more prevalent of the two. While it is not entirely known why primary high blood pressure occurs, research is ongoing and a number of factors have been implicated. Since high blood pressure often runs in families, a strong genetic component has been indicated.

Other risk factors for high blood pressure include smoking, alcoholism, high salt intake, being overweight, lack of exercise, and high levels of stress.

Some conditions known to cause secondary hypertension are: diabetic nephropathy, kidney disease, Cushing's syndrome, hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, arteriosclerosis (a thickening, hardening and narrowing of the walls of the arteries), underlying heart conditions, sleep apnea, obesity, pregnancy (especially in cases of pre-eclampsia) and side-effects of certain medications or supplements.

Natural Remedies for High Blood Pressure

Garlic -- Eating garlic is a very good way to lower high blood pressure. It has beneficial effects on the whole cardiovascular system. Clinical studies have shown that garlic decreases the systolic pressure by 20-30 mm Hg and the diastolic by 10-20 mm Hg. During one of these studies people with high blood pressure were given one clove of garlic a day for 12 weeks. Their diastolic blood pressure and cholesterol levels were significantly reduced.

Coenzyme Q10 -- CoQ10 has been proven to be effective in treating people with a common type of high blood pressure. A clinical trial was done where half the people were given 60 mg of CoQ10 twice daily for 12 weeks and the other half were given, of course, a placebo. The people taking CoQ10 had an 18-point reduction in systolic blood pressure.

Lysine, Proline and Vitamin C -- This is a protocol by Linus Pauling, a Nobel prize winner, to cure plaque build up in the arteries and thus reduce high blood pressure. To find out more about this protocol go to the saveyourheart.com website.

Magnesium
-- It is well known that magnesium deficiency leads to high blood pressure. Because our modern diet lacks magnesium, most Americans are deficient in this mineral. Many studies have shown that it helps significantly to take magnesium daily for the treatment of high blood pressure. Magnesium can also be taken to prevent hypertension.

Cinnamon -- In recent studies it was shown that cinnamon helps lower high blood pressure as well as reducing serum cholesterol levels. Below is a list of other herbs that are used to lower blood pressure. Herbs can be taken in capsules, as tinctures, you can use them in cooking if appropriate, or your can use them as a tea.

    * Hawthorn
    * Gingko biloba
    * Ginseng
    * Gotu Kola
    * Skullcap
    * Ashwagandha
    * Burdock
    * Hawthorn
    * Nutmeg
    * Cardamom
    * Kelp

Lifestyle Changes to Reduce High Blood Pressure

You might want to get your own blood pressure machine and keep track of your blood pressure yourself. This way you can see what causes it to go up or to go down.

Do about 30 minutes of aerobic exercise each day such as walking. Don't overdue it and exercise too much as it then becomes stressful to your body and may increase blood pressure.

Eat a lot of potassium rich foods such as vegetables and fruits.

Drink lots of water, between 8 to 15 glasses of water a day. Drinking lots of water mimics what the drugs your doctor prescribes are doing. It relaxes your body, including your arteries.

Learn to relax, slow down and manage your stress levels. Stress is a huge influencing factor in high blood pressure.

Curing Pink Eye or Conjunctivitis Naturally Using Home Remedies

Posted Saturday, April 19, 2008 (1 year 219 days ago.) Viewed 375 times.

What is Pink Eye?

Conjunctivitis, or pink eye, is an inflammation of the conjunctiva, a clear membrane that covers  the outer layer of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelids. As with other common eye  inflammations, conjunctivitis usually looks and feels worse than it is. While the pronounced  redness can be quite alarming, conjunctivitis very rarely causes long term visual damage. Pink  eye is, however, a condition that often needs to be diagnosed and treated early as certain types  of conjunctivitis are very contagious and any prolonged inflammation of the eyes should be  treated with caution to prevent complications and tissue damage.

What are the Symptoms of Conjunctivitis?

Pinkeye is caused by infections from bacteria or viruses, allergies, or certain irritants that come  into contact with the eye. Because of all the different causes, there are several different types of  conjunctivitis and different symptoms. Infection usually begins with one eye but can quickly  spread to the other eye in cases of viral or bacterial conjunctivitis. Symptoms of pink eye may  include:

Discomfort in the eye
Redness of the eye or inner eyelids
Discharge and teariness
Discharge may cause eyelids to crust and stick together while sleeping
Itchiness
Tenderness of the eye, or pain
Sensitivity to light
Swelling of the eyelids

Because conjunctivitis is highly contagious and can easily be spread to your other eye, other  people and to yourself again once the initial infection has cleared, there are a few precautions  that should always be taken:

  • Don't share towels, pillows, or washcloths with others, especially if they have conjunctivitis or  other viral and bacterial conditions such as cold sores.
  • Change pillowcases and wash towels and bedding frequently.
  • Use immune system boosters to boost your immune system to help prevent infection as well as  to encourage faster healing.
  • As much as you may want to, refrain from touching your eyes! If your eyes are itchy, rather use a  clean compress for quick relief.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly before and after touching your eyes.
  • Seek medical attention if you develop conjunctivitis when you have a cold sore as herpes simplex  related conjunctivitis is a serious condition.
  • Discard any makeup used when you had conjunctivitis as it may be contaminated and this is an  easy way to spread it again.
  • If you wear contact lenses, switch to glasses until your eyes have completely healed.
  • Wear sunglasses outdoors as sunlight irritates pink eye.

Home Remedies to Cure Pink Eye

Colloidal Silver -- You can buy colloidal silver in a spray bottle. Spray into your eyes two to three  times a day. You can also put one or two drops of colloidal silver in your eyes two or three times  a day if you can't find a spray bottle. Colloidal silver has been known to cure pink eye as quickly  as six hours. Be sure to use a few days after healing to be safe.

Castor Oil -- Put one to two drops in your eyes two times each day. Your eyes will get better  within one day, but you should keep using it for a few more days to make sure it is completely  gone. Your eyes will get blurry from the oil but it does not sting or hurt and in fact can be  soothing. Castor oil is an antimicrobal and is excellent for healing.

Sea Salt -- Put a teaspoon of sea salt in one cup warm water and stir until dissolved. You can  use an eye dropper and put two to three drops of the saline solution you have created directly into  your eye or you can use a cotton ball. Saturate the cotton ball and place it on your eye allowing  the water to run into your eye. This is a tried and true remedy that has been used for many years  and is still a staple in England.
