How Can I Reduce Clutter Before Thanksgiving and Christmas?

Posted Friday, November 07, 2008 (1 year 16 days ago.) Viewed 29 times.

Are you overwhelmed with too much stuff? If you are, you are not alone! Having too many possessions may be more suffocating than liberating. But, what can you do about this before the holidays? Start working on getting organized now and enjoy the revitalizing feeling of clearing and organizing your space.

Begin with a Walk Through the House

If you are having difficulty getting started with decluttering, grab a trash bag, walk through each room of the house and throw away everything that is destined for the trash. Doing this will get rid of some of the clutter and give you an opportunity to observe what areas of your house really need attention.

Pay close attention to flat surfaces. Just getting a few items off of countertops, tables, dressers and beds will make you feel better and set the groundwork for an in depth decluttering of your home.

Make a List of Clutter Areas

Make a list of clutter areas noting whether they are small areas or huge piles. Decide which areas cause you the most stress and highlight them or mark them with a star. Start with these areas working from small areas to the larger areas. Decluttering even a small area will give you the motivation to continue working on a larger area at another time.

Gather Your Organizing Tools

Gather together a few boxes or trash bags to start the decluttering process. You will want a junk box for throw a ways; a recycle box for items that will be given away or sold; a catch all box for items that belong some place else in the house; and an undecided box which is for items that you just can't make a decision about at that time.

Decluttering Time Has Arrived

It is now time to start the space clearing process. Start on time and don't put off the unavoidable for another minute. Look at the process as part of a workday and be your own tough, focused boss.

The Clutter Test

As you are organizing clutter, ask yourself if the item raises your energy when you look at it or think about it. Is the item something that you absolutely love? Is the item something that is truly useful?

Answering yes to these questions will tell you that you need to keep the item. If you answer no to these questions, ask yourself what this item is doing in your life.

Clutter Really Zaps Your Energy!

Posted Wednesday, October 15, 2008 (1 year 39 days ago.) Viewed 19 times.

If you are feeling low in energy, sluggish and overwhelmed, look around you. Are you drowning in clutter? If so, it is time to declutter your way to more energy and abundance in your life.

There are several types of clutter in our lives including physical clutter, mental clutter and emotional clutter. These three in particular drain our inner resources when they are out of control. Organizing your home and your life will enable you to regain your flow of energy.

Physical clutter is the clutter that is in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, etc. How do you know your clutter is out of control? If it takes you a longer time to find things or you feel lost and fearful without knowing why, your clutter is out of control. If you always have to declutter and clean before you can invite company or, worse yet, you shudder to think someone would drop by unexpectedly, then you definitely need to declutter.

Since it took time for clutter to come into your house, it will take time to clear it out. Be patient and work in 15 minute segments of time if the job is too overwhelming. Just think how much you could accomplish in a week by taking small steps in decluttering and organizing your home.

Mental clutter can be addressed by writing things down which will help you organize your thoughts. This may be in the form of a "to do" list or planning gift giving for the holidays. Another way to clean mental clutter is to choose to be around positive people that give you energy rather negative people that drain your energy.

Meditation will help to clear emotional clutter. This can be done at home, in a place of worship or any other place that is beautiful, calming and nurturing. Forgiving others as well as being forgiven will assist in getting rid of emotional clutter .

Organizing Tips - How Long Do You Keep Body Care Products?

Posted Thursday, October 09, 2008 (1 year 45 days ago.) Viewed 27 times.

How long do you keep body care products? Here is a list of suggested expiration dates that will help you determine what to keep and what to throw away.

Anti-aging and acne treatments: Three months to a year is the suggested life for cosmetics that contain antioxidants because antioxidants are easily oxidized. Be on the lookout for changes in color which would indicate it is time to get rid of them.

Body lotion: The suggested shelf life is two to three years, particularly if it is in a pump container. One way to tell is to check the scent and also see if there is a color change.

Shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel: These products have a shelf life of about three years provided they are kept out of extreme heat or cold.

Bath oil: After one year check to see if the quality of the product seems normal.

Sunscreen: The package will have an expiration date to determine its effectiveness.

Hairstyling products: These products have a relatively long shelf life of three to five years because they are alcohol-based which helps protect the formula.

Bar soap: The shelf life of bar soap is up to three years.

Shaving cream: Plan about two years for the shelf life of shaving cream.

Deodorant: Two years is about the maximum time you want to use deodorant.

How to Get Rid of Clutter Before You Start Organizing

Posted Thursday, October 02, 2008 (1 year 52 days ago.) Viewed 23 times.

Do you want to get rid of clutter? Clutter seems to have taken over our lives now that we are a world full of storage buildings and over indulgence. It seems that we are buying everything we see. We must begin cleaning out closets and drawers and removing stuff from counter and table tops in every room in the house to become clutter free.

This seems easy but where do you begin? Start by finding every item that you no longer use, need or want and get rid of it. You can donate items to local charities, have a yard sale or use both methods for decluttering. If you hold a yard sale, what doesn't sell can be boxed up and donated to the local shelter or other charity. You will be amazed at how much space you now have.

Next, go though those books and magazines that you have piled high on shelves and stuffed under the bed. Go through them and get rid of those that are out of date. They can go to the recycling bin. You can cut out the pages you want to keep and put them in a folder or punch holes in them and keep them in a large binder.

When you have read a book, unless it is a collectable, do not keep it. Donate it to the library or find a book trader and trade it for other books. The same goes for movies, DVD's and CD's that you don't watch or listen to anymore.

CD's and DVD's can be put into CD towers. These towers aren't just for CD's, either. If you have an office, you can use them by your desk to hold all of the items you find yourself constantly searching for. This will help to begin the office organizing process which is a great way to rid the space of clutter.

The kitchen is the one room in the house that usually has its own junk drawer. There are dozens of items in the kitchen that were bought just because you thought it was interesting. Take all of the gadgets in your kitchen and get rid of any you have not used during the past year. Organize the rest of them in drawer organizers or use a utensil holder for items you want on the counter top.

Remember, if you don't use it, cannot wear it or if it is out of date, get rid of it. Take everything that is left and put it in its place. You will have a new sense of freedom when you rid your life of excess baggage in the form of clutter!

How to Improve Your Personal Time Management

Posted Sunday, September 21, 2008 (1 year 62 days ago.) Viewed 15 times.

Time management is essentially about being focused. Many people see time management as rules that call for scheduling appointments, goal setting, careful planning, and developing to do lists. These components are believed to be the heart of time management that should be understood to attain an effective personal time management skill set.

But there are additional skills that are involved in time management. These skills include decision making and innate abilities such as critical thinking and emotional intelligence which are also important to your personal growth.

Having a well-balanced lifestyle should be the key to personal time management. Many proponents of personal time management do not recognize this point.

Time management is all about outcomes, not merely about being busy. There are several areas of a person's life that need to be addressed in order to have a well-balanced lifestyle.

The physical part of personal time management involves having a fit and healthy body while at the same time having less stress and fatigue in your life. The intellectual component involves education, knowledge and other activities that will contribute to an individual's mental health.

The social piece involves increasing relationships and being an active member of society.

The career component includes both work and school. The emotional factor involves appropriate feelings and desires as well as manifesting them. The spiritual aspect includes a personal pursuit for meaning and purpose in life.

Part of time management is determining which of these areas in your life is not being

given the consideration it deserves to maintain the proper balance. To be a whole person you cannot ignore even one area or you are ignoring a significant part of yourself.

Personal time management is a very rational and reasonable approach to solving problems whether they are big or small. How can you better manage your time while also improving your personal life? You can do this by reviewing your short and long-term goals on a regular basis.

Keeping a list that is always nearby is also a good place to start. Determining what tasks are needed for reaching your goals and which activities are helping you sustain a balanced lifestyle is a key component to this whole process.

Each person has natural cycles as to a peak time of performance and a slow down time. By determining your own personal performance cycle you will be able to schedule difficult tasks when we are at your sharpest.

These simple suggestions are a good starting point when learning how to improve the quality of life through personal time management.
