Actually, in truth, black(and white) are the only NON COLORS; they are shades; white, is the presence of all colors-as in the rainbow breakdown by prism of whitelight- and black, the absence of any color.

Ford, a racist and a dyed in the wool bigot, would never admit that black was beautiful, in THAT sense, but as far as for his cars' shades, he considered it primal.

First Ford car was manufactured in 1908. By 1918, half of all cars in America were Model T's. Ford wrote in his autobiography, "Any customer can have a car painted any colour that he wants so long as it is black". Until the development of the assembly line, which mandated black because of its quicker drying time, Model T's were available in other colors including red.

This famous quote came from Henry Ford in regards to his invention "The Model T" Henry Ford was a leader in his day. He wouldn't take no for an answer and through his insistance the V8 engine was made from a single cast block...after many years of trials and failures. His engineers and scientists used to keep saying to him, "That he was asking for the impossible" and he kept sending them back to make it possible.

Henry's pride was to be his downfall. His business was afterall the leader in sales and inovation when it came to designs. He forgot the basic premise that any business in reality is a servant to its customers and not the customer a servant to the business.

This refusal to allow his invention and his pride and joy to be painted in any other color was the opening that other car manufacturers needed. And indeed they started to provide a service to Henry's customers in allowing them to choose a color of their choice.
