Before the British racing cars where painted with advertisers, what was its official color?

The official color was green, all shades of green.

Hate to disagree with the previous answer that there was only one official colour of green and that was known as-surprise surprise-British Racing Green. it was a fairly dark colour and looked really good on all racing cars up until the 1960s when big business took over.
