They are good because you can loose weight, and you can loose it quickly on a low carb diet. They are bad because carbs are necessary and supply us with energy, and it is not healthy to cut back on all carbs for too long, not to mention it can cause constipation. There are good carbs and bad carbs, it would be best to eat a diet with a moderate amount of healthy unrefined carbs instead of cutting back on them altogether.

Tyler, welcome to Searchwarp. Thanks for your answer, you're right about it isn't good to cut them at all. Good point to on their influence on helping against constipation (mentioning for that matter good carbs called: complex, which have fiber included).

Bad, we need carbs for energy, it is good to avoid the refined carbs, but we can certainly enjoy the non refined carbs which are low on the glycemic index scale

The concern about carbs should be more about eating healthy carbs rather than unhealthy carbs. Healthy carbs are ones that have a low glycemic index - meaning they are more complex, take a longer time to digest and do not spike our insulin. Foods that spike our blood sugar levels and then insulin levels can lead to chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation leads to many degenerative diseases like diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer's and macular degeneration.

Select foods that are whole grain such as whole wheat pasta and bread instead of white pasta and white bread. Choose brown rice or wild rice instead of white rice. A sweet potato is better for you than a white potato. Slow cooked oatmeal is better than instant oatmeal.
