Have you ever had a huge vitamin C pill get stuck in your throat?

This happened to me this morning. 50 ounces of warm water later it was still there and burning like the blazes. I started jumping up and down and then Bernd wondered what was up. I had him whack me repeatedly on the back and finally it felt like it went down. But now, later in the day, it feels like there is still something in there and it hurts a LOT to swallow and I've lost my voice. Any advice or experiences you could relate that might help me? Or do I just have to wait it out?
Answers to this question:I always use chewable vit C tablets. Perhaps drink some very warm tea slowly, if that does not work I would see a doctor ASAP, if only to speed healing?
I was about to say use the chewable instead of tablet form but saw Greg & Mark had already said the same thing. I am one that find it terribly hard to swallow any pills from the day I was born. What more it's a delicious Vita C. Probably the minute you get busy the irritating feeling will disappear altogether.
Hi Mark.
Been drinking lots of warm stuff. Yesterday, trying to swallow made my throat try to cramp as well as hurt a lot. But today there is no cramping. Yeah! As I told Gregory, I will look into the chewable vitamin C. My reading indicates that going to a doctor really won't speed the healing. Most folks leaving posts online said they went to their doctors and were told they would just have to wait it out. As long as your breathing isn't impaired there is nothing to be done.
Thanks for taking the time to help.
Hi Hilda.
Yes, if I keep busy and don't swallow too much, I don't notice it except when I turn my head to the extreme left of right. Do I sound whiny? :) Lord knows, I'm an absolutely terrible "patient." Bernd dreads it whenever I get sick or injured. But he is resigned to the complaints. At least with this one he is spared all the vocalizing. :) He just has to put up with my pained expressions. :) But it doesn't so much feel like it is still in there today. Yeah!

Hi Dianne- You've got to be careful about someone whacking you on the back when something is stuck in your throat- that can cause it to get stuck in your wind pipe and........well you know what can happen then--glad you're feeling better- you can also buy liquid v.C- better than chewing a pill and getting it all stuck in your teeth-or-throat-or windpipe!
Gadzooks! I hadn't thought about that. Luckily I'm small and Bernd is big and he knows how to do the Heimlich maneuver.
My main problem is finding a vitamin that I can take that doesn't have all sorts of things added to it that I am allergic to. But I will be looking into it. I did NOT try to take one this morning. Besides, swallowing is still painful.
If you prefer to continue with the V.C pill you've been taking, perhaps you can dissolve it in boiling hot water or tea- and drink it. Although that's extra work- sometimes we have to make accomodations for our allergies- good luck with finding the solution that will allow you to take your vitamins more safely-
That's a great idea. But I bet it won't taste very good. I'll check it out. Thanks so much!

I guess the pain and voice loosing was cause of the vitamin did something it should do in another place. Next time try to immediately eat something that is not liquid, like rice or meat or something. If we can get a benefit from that situation besides lessons, i guess that your throat is now stronger and more endurable like the skin on the palms that get harder after scratches. I passed over the comments and i think that the chewable vitamin is exciting :)
Hi Kim.
You know, I did try eating something right when it happened. I had the raisins out to put into my oatmeal and I grabbed a handful of them and chewed them up and swallowed hoping the vitamin C would follow them. I didn't work. :(
I don't know if my throat is stronger now, but it is a nice thought.
