What was "Grape-Nuts" made from?

A breakfast cereal which was marketed under the name "Grape-Nuts".

I guess the sort answer would be wheat. I think the name comes from the seeds of grapes. More particularly the seeds of dried grapes or raisins. Every time I get a raisin with a seed in it, that seed seems to be hard as a rock and impossible to chew. I always felt the same way about Grape Nuts.
