Why don't older articles receive much traffic as the new ones?

Answers to this question:
I think it depends on the article. There are a few that I wrote several years ago now that still get good traffic. They are informational and instructional articles about jewelry making.
Opinion pieces and current event type articles will naturally have a limited lifespan. But if you craft your title well (which I do not always do) following Bruce's suggestion of at least seven words (take a look at Kacy's titles and those few writers who have started to emulate her and you will know what I mean) they can continue to get hits for a long time.
I recently did some book reviews. They are kind of a "cheat" for me because I use the title of the book in my article title and the author's name as well. So anyone searching for that author has a chance of finding my article.
Hope this helps.
I wrote three sequels on astrology and they continue to attract readers even today. :-) I need to write something that gets googled a lot. :-)
One answer to this question which is often overlooked is that if you look at page views (as opposed to referrals from outside SearchWarp) new articles which appear on the home page get a lot more views, because people find them accidentally, and the articles on the home page are newer ones.
This of course doesn't apply to those who don't use the readers' club and therefore don't get on the home page (just had to throw that in!)
I have found the Reader's club very useful and also the articles which get rated get to appear on the homepage is pretty good. That gives equal exposure to all those who are actively participating with the Reader's club.
By the way, my astrology article seems to attract a lot of hits even now. I can see that part though that I have to write something like that.
And if you're interested, this is the article where I make the suggestion which Dianne referred to above.
I wish everyone would read this article at least once a month.

Well, I can tell you Search Warp does not seem to draw many horse readers. I just can't seem to get comments. There have been a few incredible folks that commented but even they've dropped off. I had tried to read and comment but need reciprocating reads after a while. Last week had some tough times and couldn't devote the time. I love reading older articles when I have the time.
Probably the biggest reason, however, is that Readers' Club features the new articles.
