Do you think SearchWarp should continue to display the star rating on articles?

For years SearchWarp has displayed a star rating on each article, according to how an editor rated the article. The rating isn't what most people consider it to be, it's based on criteria that helps manage the website and not necessarily on quality of writing. For example, and article posted non-exclusively on SearchWarp will never receive a rating of more than 4 stars, no matter how creative and well-written it is.
We tried removing the star ratings a few years ago and had a lot of complaints, which from our perspective seems odd. Apparently this rating means more to the writers than we understand.
With the new Spaces design we have left the star rating off, primarily to reduce the amount of consternation on the website. Now we are again receiving complaints about its removal.
Maybe the tension is good for writers. Maybe it's a focal point of feedback, and the writers appreciate that. Maybe we need to include it in the new Spaces design.
I thought I'd get fewer complaints and more sleep if I left it off.
What do you think?
Answers to this question:Personally, I do not believe it reflects very much of interest to the writer. I rarely notice it. Even the ratings given by readers are normally based upon agreement or disagreement with the contents rather than quality writing. But, I can accept it or leave it.
I think you should go get more sleep (lol)
Can do without the ratings. Bruce. It's fine with me too.
for myself, i put everything i have into my writing, and to be recognized, as i thought, was something i enjoyed. if they don't mean that, then do away with them.
if you don't do away with them, i'd like to see them mean what we all thought-that we did a good job with our article, and it is being "graded" so to speak.
it also gives incentive to write better and better to achieve a 4 or 5 star rating.
no other site has this feature that i know of.
i have always thought it was an added bonus to searchwarp.
the stars have sort of "kept me on my toes." although i was thinking they meant something other than they do.
i like the stars, always have,
my best,
sue
For the most part, I never really looked at the stars. I've relied upon reader comments to find out how well or not my article was received. And for the most part, the comments do not seem to speak to the quality of my writing so much as what I have written about.
My vote is to eliminate the stars, though others might feel differently.
I think that anything that can be done to reduce the appearence of a personal popularity contest -should be done.
My opinion is to keep them, but to make them display stars as the quality of the article, so to not make them lower or higher with the exclusivity. It is good for people who like to know their writing level, for example i had before many 3 stars, but later on i began getting 4 stars, it was pretty good.
I also thought it was for quality of writing or the article in covering an area of topic all enjoy etc. Im not interested in stars that originated from exclusivity. So if the stars
meaning change, yes stars would be cool. If not, it doesnt matter to me. I don't look at them too often anyways.
So, i would prefer more sleep than more stars
Have a nap Bruce you deserve one
Kellie
yes. I always look at my rating by the editor. I try to figure out why a 4 or 5, etc. I have a strong need to have someone tell me what it good or bad, regardless of their expertice.
I think the voters have spoken. I'll be adding the stars back soon.
Well Bruce I don't want you to get less sleep, but I love the stars, I'm afraid - not because I want people's opinion of how good or bad my work is, I just like the strokes. I like getting them and I like giving them, it's just another way of saying "thanks" to the writer. It's kind of a heart thing.
Yeah, I understand. Gregory and I were just chatting about how the stars seem to be more of a pat on the back than an actual measure, but it's great to get a pat on the back.
I'm sure the stars will be back soon!
da-da-da-daaa! Yay! Now you have to find some kind of immunity-to-complaints spell. Hmm, it would be a good invention wouldn't it?
yes not tht I got any but if you do a good article it should be recognized as such if you as a writer can inform others so we all can learn something then u hv accopmlished wht u set out to do which is entertain and knowledge is and always has been the key to life
