David, Jean and Hilda, everything, that we were taught in school, was wrong, EVERYTHING; the fabricated wrong notion that Betsy Ross, a seamstress, made our first flag, originated as a tale created in the year of 1870.

According to Wikipedia's sources, the only thing that was actually verified that she did, was to change the six-pointed star to an easier-to-sew five-pointed star. Beyond that she was only one of several flag-makers at the time. One of her relatives told everyone in an oral report or speech, that she'd made the first flag, but this was long after she'd died and he had no first-hand knowledge. So, the urban legend was born.
