Can you define "ice" for someone who lives in a tropical climate with no knowledge of other climates or technology beyond Stone Age tools and weapons?

There is not word for ice, freezing or even cold, to the point of needing layered clothing, in this person's language simply because it has never been seen, touched or experienced in any way.

What is this "chilled form" that you speak of? I know only of warm waters full of fish, turtles and crocodiles.

This seemed like a interesting query, however, I think that I have outdone myself in asking the question.

It isn't possible to define something which there is no common reference point.

The solid state of water.

Water is not solid. That is impossible. How could the fish swim if the water was solid? They aren't like worms or insects that can bore through the earth or into rotted wood.
