first, forsythia and crocus, then tulips and daffodils.
We have glories of the snow and they do come up in the snow and then my johnny-jump-ups seem to be there in the snow too... of course, at our elevation stuff that bloomed in Calif in Feb and March blooms here in July and sometimes August (my bearded iris for instance)
Well, I'd say daffodils but I probably will need to pay more attention next spring to know for sure.
Irises. We have bunch of bulbs under a tree in the front yard. I always look forward to them.
I live in Houston, we have "summer flowers" and "winter flowers". The pansies and snapdragons bloom all winter long. I look for the redbud trees to bloom to tell me we've turned from winter to spring.
My nephew worked at Johnson Space center and lived in Friendswood until just recently - I never got to visit him there but it would be wonderful to have things blooming all year like they did when I lived in California!
honeysuckle
I bet it is a lovely smell too!
Crocus, planted by the house with southern light. First signs of spring knowing that the greenhouse should be up and running. Love the crocus! Promise of warmer weather!!
