It's proven (documented) that those who have a burning passion for horses were once themselves horses in their last life.

At least that's what it said in the National Inquirer! :)

May be by the time they turn older they shift their passion to other alternatives since there are many different choices of new things for them to venture. Passion can change as you age. I no longer cling to my girlhood interest in shooting birds but something different . For those who still keep the old passion, well, shows that they really are passionate about it. (die hard)

I don't know, but I remember that a girl's love of horses figured prominently in Jean Auel's "The Valley of Horses," in which Ayla (from Clan of the Cave Bear) killed a mother horse in order to eat, but adopted the colt. That bonding was supposed to be the start of it all.

My four daughters had horses and now my two grandchildren are avid riders. I just think little girls love animals and are so in awe that an animal can be so smart and loving. They can (and do) teach them to cantor, jump and obey their commands to all kinds of wonderful things. As you probably know, horses are therapeutic for some children and adults, so I think horses have something secret in them that makes for emotional health. Fran Larson

Thank you for that Fran. Well put and intuitive answer. The whole horse thing is amazing really. I know that young children, especially girls, have this I love horses thing going and it lasts through some of the formative years and almost into the early teen years. Then the real horse lovers continue the passion and the others drift into other interests. It amazes me to see the awe and love in the young child though. I think that horses gave my kids a passion and a caring that some kids miss out on - my kids were cleaning, grooming and caring for horses while others were hanging out and getting into trouble. I think horses helped me raise my two and now my grandchildren.

Horses are amazing animals and children, especially girls intuitively knew this that is the reason why little girls love horses. I have seen an autistic child riding a horse and she feels so relaxed and happy.

You are so very right. Autistic children react positively to horses - large or small. In The Connecticut Horse Council, we have seem some remarkable progress. Also here in Connecticut as in other states there are many therapeutic programs to involve and stimulate children (or adults too) in programs of riding and care. The success ratio of positive reaction and even improvement is actually very amazing. There is just something compelling about horses and if approached with a no demand, no threat, no bullying, even the biggest horses become marshmallows. Interestingly, many non-horse people volunteer with these programs and, once taught the rudimentaries in leading a horse or holding a child securely in the saddle, even the volunteers transform somehow.

I guess little girls are just curious about everything...and that curiosity can either turn into passion or never mind :)
