I can honestly say that I do not like them. When I was working in Germany, I had to drive around quite often, but my companies car broke down and they had to get a temporary loaner. And this loaner just happened to be a Smart Fortwo in hot pink.

Here is why I came to loath Smart Cars

1. Speed. Very slow top speed, and pick up speed almost reluctantly.

2. Size. I am a big guy (6'3 or 190cm) and don't like clown cars.

3. Pseudo chic. Not at all (but I might be biased since I drove a pink version).

4. Price. For this price, I could buy a much better car (in China where I am right now, a smart car cost more than a BMW 3)

5. Very unintuitive gear system. The Fortwo I drove had a strange conglomeration of manual and stick shifting. You have to drive it yourself to know what I mean.

I would have to say that i really hate smart cars. Just the look of the silly little things driving about upsets me. They are clearly not safe in any shape of form, there is no protection anywhere.

What happens when a smart car hits a wall? That is why I don't like them.

Perhaps an eco tank is in order.

Am I allowed to answer both?

I love the idea of a greener vehicle, lower MPG and being in London, something that can squeeze into the smallest of parking spaces.

I hate them because there's next to no space inside, they look ugly (almost as if someone has chopped it in half) and they're very expensive for what they are.
Answer from Ruth Berg (47) 15 days 19 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
There are pros and cons to a smart car.

The pros are...

o great for the city where gas mileage is mid 30s

o easy to park due to small size

o fun to drive in traffic

The cons are...

o too small for the highway (I'd feel unsafe aroung larger vehicles)

o not enough power for high speed acceleration

o very rough ride at high speeds

o gas mileage not impressive at mid 40s

Note: for a few bucks more, you can get a Prius, which represents a step forward in technology. Can't wait till the Chevy Volt arrives.

I don't. Actually, there are very few modern cars that I like. I just prefer the beauties from the fiftees :)
Answer from Ralph Pedersen (44) 12 days 18 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
It seems that all the glamour has gone out of this type of car. How could you ever love it?? It looks ugly, but then some ugly cars have received cult status in the past.
Answer from Anthony Davis (399) 12 days 8 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
I dislike them, mostly for the same reasons as Gregory.

There's also the fact that you can get a Hyundai Accent or something similar that is not much bigger, has plenty of power, and is dirt cheap, and comes with a great warranty.

I call Smart Cars "Stupids" all the time. :-)

I think they are pretty cool for busy cities. However I wouldn't want to go on the motorway or get in an accident in one. Also the storage space is pathetically small limiting their usefulness.
Answer from Richard Williams (0) 9 days 22 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
Hate them they are very unsafe - not their structure - they are not as bad in a crash as people may think but they handle extremely badly. A two-seater smart car understeers very badly.

i really love smart cars..
Answer from Charles Brown (0) 7 days 12 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
Neither! I would love one if I didn't have to drive it anywhere except in town. Going from town to town, however, I want a REAL automobile. (Hey, I'm American.)

For me this is an easy answer. I do not like Smart Cars. Oh, they have their uses - around town, when it's raining and you don't want to take out the motorcycle, and you're just going to the park. I actually believe they are dangerous on the highways because they are not easy to see either in front of you or behind you due to their small size. Also, in this world of speed and rude drivers, such a small car would become a speck on a windshield in a crash. I write this not from having read up on the pros and cons of this vehicle - rather only from observance of the car on the road.
Answer from Rick Ross (87) 2 days 23 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
I do not like Smart Cars simply because I can't believe they are safe enough for people to drive on major highways and freeways. If I am traveling 35 miles an hour on a highway in the city and smash into a smart car, I could likely kill the driver. This places an unnecessary burden on the drivers of other vehicles on the road as a similar accident with a conventional vehicle would be less likely to result in fatality.
Answer from Audrey Jones (0) 1 day 10 hours ago. More questions answered by this person)
i see them on the road and they look like a toy. i wonder how safe they really are. That's the only question i have about them. But i guess they are good on gas.
