How do you feel about the New York Yankees winning their 27th World Series Championship Game?

Do you care or not? Are you as ecstatic as I am or not?

I was a long time Yankees fan, after moving to the east coast. But, someone commented that "all is well with the world, the Yankees won." I disagree. I am one of those superstitious people who sees inextricable connectivity patterns in events. To me, the Philadelphia Phillies represent the "City of Brotherly Love" (Philadelphia), and if you've ever been to Philadelphia (the good parts), it's an idealization of the Athenian utopian apex, where all things humanitarian come together in a kind of cultural Renaissance. Art, literature, democracy.

On the contrary, the New York Yankees (but not New York City, necessarily) represent "business as usual," the idea that anything can be bought if you have enough money. It is meritocracy, because all those players are so good (they really are!). But the Yankees are the highest paid players in the league, some are rich enough to buy small countries. The Yankees represent corporate interests above the personal. It is bureaucracy over craftsmanship. I see a Yankees win as a harbinger of things to come, where Banks and big business interests will take advantage of an increasingly depersonalized, disaffected citizenry.
