8 Things Not To Eat When Trying To Lose Weight

Posted Thursday, July 26, 2007 (2 years 122 days ago.) Viewed 6,924 times.

The road to successful weight loss can be bumpy and is filled with temptations and challenges.   Accept that you will encounter these sidetracks and then set yourself a goal to overcome each and every one of them.

So if you are trying to lose weight there are some obvious things you should not eat. And yet there are still many people who will eat those fat burger meals and chocolates while on a "diet".

Here are 8 things not to eat while trying to lose weight:

1. Steakhouses

Refrain from visiting a steakhouse or restaurant because they can be a Nutritional Hell. Alot of the food served at such places such as fried onions are so full of calories, saturated fat and salt that it is actually a health risk eating it. And even worse, the onions are usually served with a sauce that has even more calories, fat and salt.

2. Fried Foods

Deep fried foods are nutritionally bad for anyone. Don' eat them!
It will only be a havoc with your weight loss diet.  Stay away from the common fried foods that you have come to take for granted and munch on like nuggets, fried chicken wings, french fries, fish and chips, sausages and bacons, fried noodles, fried rice.

3. Big, Bigger, Biggest Burgers.

Warning! Fat Fat Fat! Not necessarily the burger itself but all the accessories and toppings that come with it like extra cheese and bacon and sauces can be a real health risk.  Order a plain burger with a little bit of sauce if you absolutely must have your burger. Also remember to resist that offer to upsize no matter at what huge discount you can enjoy.   If you cannot resist that kind of offer, simply avoid going to burger joints.

4. Misleading Manufacturers

Don't believe the adverts, and make sure you know what you eat. A lot of so-called healthy food are the exact opposite.  Make extra effort to check the labels on calorie and fat levels and make informed decision at point of purchase.

5. Appetisers

Try to avoid appetizers as generally they are full of calories. If you are on a weight loss diet, appetizers are a nutritional no-no. Simply eat the main dish which contains sufficient amount of nutrition for your body to satisfy your hunger.  Or supplement with healthy soup and a smaller quantity of main dish.

6. Calorie Clogged Cakes and Cookies

Crumb Cake, cheese Cake, chocolate cake, whatever Cake... Just DON'T eat it!  This can be one of dieters' many downfall. Quite easily!

7. Beverage to avoid

Drinking coke, coffee with cream or suger, tea with sugar etc can easily add up to 500 or more calories per cup. Drink water instead!! Lots of water can increase your metabolism and burn more calories while at the same time cleanse your body of toxic.

8. Snacks

This is bound to happen when you are watching tv, at the cinemas, picnis - stay away from potato chips, nachos and cheese, fatty crackers.  Opt for healthy ones that have fibre, like wholemeal crackers, or crunchy carrots and celery.

Now that you are away of the "dangers" ahead of your dieting program, hope you will start to be mindful of the calories in the food and think about it before you eat.

These are the things that you do yourself to waste time and are the easiest to control. The second category are the external time wasters. These are the things other people do to waste your time. This can be more diffucult to control, though it can be controlled with a little bit of effort and ingenuity.

Let's look at the self generated internal time wasters and some possible solutions:

1) The lack of planning and priorities. Many people never get anything accomplished because they don't know where to begin or how to proceed once started. It is important that you keep a weekly schedule. List your priorities in order of importance. If needed, discuss the priorities with your boss or coworkers. Make a schedule that starts at the beginning of each week and incorporates all of your priorities into the schedule with goals for completion dates. List every hour and what you should be working on for that hour. Schedule tight so there is not a lot of time in between projects. Too much time between projects is wasted time.

2) Disorganization. Disorganized people spend way too much time looking for lost items. Keep your office neatly organized and free of clutter. If you can't do this yourself, recruit a friend or hire someone to help you.

3) Procrastination. This is a big time waster. Set a deadline for those projects that you don't want to do. Plan a reward for yourself when finished. Work on the project in small chunks until completed. Sometimes it helps to work on it first thing in the morning to get it out of the way.

The second category of time wasters is the external time wasters. These are not as easy to control since they involve external factors.  Here are some solutions to help control or at the very least, keep them to a minimum:

1) Visitors. If you get a lot of visitors dropping to your work area this could be a huge time waster for you. The solution is to move your desk so that your back is to the door. This will make you seem less approachable. When someone stops in to talk, stand up. This will send the message that you don't have time to chat. If all else fails be honest.  Tell them thanks for dropping by, but tactfully let them know that you need to get back to work.

2) Telephone calls. Screen your calls. Let the voice mail take your calls during the day when you are busy. Schedule time during each day when you will return the calls and  let your clients know when that time will be. Keep your answers short and to the point and end the conversation politely when it has achieved it's purpose. With a little practice you can be personable and still keep the conversation short.

3) Mail. It can flood your desk and take it over before you it. Schedule time each day to go through your mail. Make it a rule to handle each piece of mail only once. Throw out the junk mail immediately, file" information only" mail in a file box to be read later and respond to the others by telephone or fax. Faxing a response is a great idea because the response is immediate and takes very little time.

4) Email. Clean out your email box daily and don't use your business email address for personal use.

Using these solutions, your productivity will increase and your stress level on the job will decrease. The best part is, you can say goodbye to the time bandits forever!asters. 5 Characteristics of Effective Leadership

Posted Monday, September 11, 2006 (3 years 75 days ago.) Viewed 371 times.

There are many factors that contribute to effective leadership, and I will address five of them here. An effective leader is crucial to any successful business, whether it is an offline or online business.

The first characteristic of effective leadership is empathy, an understanding and identification with another person's feelings, situation and goals. Showing such empathy even in difficult situations will win you kudos with the staff. In the event of a conflict, a good leader will be able to empathize with both sides, while being able to negotiate an amicable solution. Your staff will work much better with you when you show some empathy.

Secondly, an effective leader shows a tenacious determination and resolve, never wavering in spite of obstacles. Together with a positive attitude, this can turn around an almost impossible situation, thus enabling others to see the brighter picture and carry on with the task at hand, keeping the end result in mind.

Thirdly, one must be able to detach themselves from the situation and analyze it from a distance. The effective leader is calm and composed in the face of turmoil and uncertainty. This stability like a rock gives a certain sense of character and offers some peace of mind to others who may be mindlessly caught up in that turmoil.

Fourthly, a leader must have excellent communication skills. He must be comfortable running meetings and making presentations. His presentation skills have to be excellent, and be able to convey accurately the essence of the subject at hand and be able to address any ambiguities before they come up. Such communication skills will have to be learned along the way to being a good leader or manager.

Lastly, an effective leader has to be resourceful enough to find the resources that are needed. Not every leader will have an intimate knowledge of the subject, but he will be able to turn to the people in the know and gather any necessary resources as required.

I have covered five important characteristics of an effective leader. Although there are many more characteristics of effective leadership, I believe that these are five crucial factors that will have to be learned by anyone who wishes to become a great leader. These characteristics can be learnt by anyone, whether they are currently an effective leader or not, however, this is not something that you learn in school.

And thus I close this with a quote from John F. Kennedy
"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other."
