Anniversary Meanings - What Are You Celebrating This Year?

Posted Tuesday, January 06, 2009 (321 days 4 hours ago.) Viewed 129 times.

Finding out the wedding anniversary meanings for your celebration this year is personal to the couple, it is not about trophy collecting, wedding anniversaries are about memories and using the anniversary lists is a great way to show you how far you have come. The fun part about choosing your gifts according to the lists is that some years it can be tricky, what do you buy the city loving couple when it is their straw anniversary? You could go out and buy great seats to the latest show or treat them to a table at the latest restaurant - all are lovely but if you could find the perfect gift from this year's anniversary meaning that would be the icing on the cake. As well as the restaurant and the show!

Each year has a meaning, you have the traditional and modern anniversary lists to choose from as well as the anniversary flower list mix the lists up to find the perfect gift for your loved one each year, or set yourself the challenge of sticking with one list for every year. We are trying to stick with the traditional list - mainly because I never realised there were so many lists to choose from when we started our wedding anniversary celebrations and I am not too good when there are lots of choices.

The traditional anniversary list was first written by Emily Post in 1922 in her book "Etiquette in Society, in Business, in Politics, and at Home" and has been added to over the years. The modern list is difficult to find the originator as there were lots of lists, some from card manufacturers and others more personal, now there is a standard modern list that combines the best.

Your 1 st anniversary is celebrated from the traditional with paper, from the modern with clocks and from the flower list with pansies.

Your 2 nd anniversary is traditionally with cotton or straw, from the modern list with china and with the flower cosmos.

As you can see there are lots of differences already! Luckily when you get to the big anniversaries of 25 th and 50 th there is a common theme of silver and gold. These anniversaries have been celebrated for hundreds of years in this way and both lists agree that your 60 th anniversary should be celebrated with diamonds and there are probably not many women that would disagree!

For your city loving couple, straw anniversary celebrations for their 2 nd anniversary could involve a basket filled with their favorite things or a romantic weekend away in a thatched cottage. There is always a gift that will fit perfectly this year's anniversary meanings.

What Do You Buy Your Husband For Your 1st Wedding Anniversary Present?

Posted Tuesday, April 22, 2008 (1 year 215 days ago.) Viewed 2,872 times.

What do you buy your husband for your 1st wedding anniversary present?

Anniversary lists are a fun way to choose your wedding anniversary gifts and as the years increase so do the value of the gifts. For the 1st anniversary you can celebrate traditionally with paper or from the modern list with clocks.

It is worth remembering when buying your anniversary gift that husbands are easily pleased if their gift is either a gadget, makes them look good or has something to do with sport or food. If you follow those guidelines you won't go far wrong!

Being a wife you will want to add a touch of romance to the 1st anniversary celebrations, something special that you will remember, here are some ideas to combine the best of both.

Paper comes in so many different forms, a card with an anniversary message is the simplest way but it isn't a present! Photographs are on paper, you could put together a photo album of your first year of marriage, if your budget allows you could invest in a new digital camera - romance and a gadget in one gift. If they already own a digital camera then you could buy them a new gadget for the camera, an even more super memory card.

Paper tickets to see their favourite team or sporting event will put you in the league of very cool wife, if you follow that with a meal at their favourite restaurant you would have a very happy husband.

If your 1st wedding anniversary present budget allows you could have flight tickets to an exotic location, you could wrap a travel guide and brochures as the first presents that he has to open before you get to the ultimate gift!

If you are looking for a cheaper gift option you could print off the emails that you first sent to each other or a collage of photos, tickets and other fun stuff from the first year.

The ultimate paper gadgets are now with e-paper, you can now buy e-paper watches but as with most new technologies you would be paying a premium.

Clocks and watches are a great gift for your husband as they can show their style, watches have never been cooler - all of the major sports celebrities promote a designer watch, they are one of the must have male fashion accessories. There are watches to suit all budgets and styles and you could have the back engraved with a secret love message, another romantic gadget gift.

Clocks are also a great gift as they last forever, from funky modern designs to traditional clocks there will be a clock for you and something that you will use every day, a lovely reminder of your first wedding anniversary.

How to plan a Wedding Anniversary Party

Posted Thursday, March 27, 2008 (1 year 240 days ago.) Viewed 301 times.

Want to plan a wedding anniversary party without getting in a panic? Then help is here. A simple list to help you remember everything!

First think about the type of party your anniversary couple would like, there is no point having a huge surprise party when they would like an intimate family dinner. Good luck in working that one out!

Next make a list of the guests to be invited, if it's a surprise party it is a good idea to get a few family members together to help you remember everyone, or borrow their address books. Print off the guest list and have everyone who will make a comment have a look to ensure noone is forgotten. It is quite likely that you will forget someone but by sharing the responsibility it won't all be your problem!

Now that you have your estimated numbers of guests you need to find your venue, have a look at all the options locally; hotels, restaurants, social clubs, community halls or maybe your house! Ask about catering and entertainment options. Buffets are much easier if there is a big group of you and then you won't need to ask if your guests have any dietary requirements. If you are having a choice menu you will need menu copies to send with the invitations. Remember to book the date with the venue.

With the guest list and venue booked you can now buy and send out your invitations. Put a date that you want the invitation replied by and ask for any dietary needs. Set up a system - even if it is a cardboard box, where all of the replies go, this way you can gather all of the guests information when you need it. It helps to have a spreadsheet with all the names in one column, and then columns for all the other bits of information you need, food, dietary requirements, accommodation, transport.

Plan any anniversary party games and entertainment. If you want a band, DJ or entertainer you will need to book it in advance to avoid any disappointment, make sure you have a contract.

Plan your anniversary party decorations, if your venue needs brightening up you may want to add balloons, lanterns and banners. Put together a group of volunteers to help you set this up. Talk to the venue as you may be able to decorate the room the night before.

Order your anniversary flowers. Flowers are a great way to add colour to a room and you can also take them away as gifts, talk to your florist about the arrangements you will need for the tables, the entrance and even the cake.

Order your anniversary cake, your cake could be a replica of the wedding cake, or a modern style stacked wedding cake or a fun and favourite cake. Anything goes!

Organise your anniversary party favors, decide if you want to have favors at the anniversary party and for whom.

Collate your replies and confirm numbers to the venue - check with them as to when they need this information. Plus any additions if you haven't already discussed them - entertainment, games, how you would like the day to run. Do you want your 'bride and groom' announced into the room? Are you having speeches? When do you want the cake cut?

Then you have the important part of enjoying yourself!                                                                                                                 Suz Daykin is the Editor of Anniversary Gifts By Year, http://www.anniversary-gifts-by-year.com the complete guide for anniversary gift ideas and how to organise great anniversary parties.

Anniversary Party Games

Posted Tuesday, March 18, 2008 (1 year 250 days ago.) Viewed 2,971 times.

Anniversary party games work best when you get everyone involved, you want to get everyone involved and chatting. Here are some great games that will get the party started.

Our first suggestion is to ask everyone invited to provide a photo of themselves when they were a baby or child, you will need these sent to you before the day. Mount them or photocopy them onto card so that you can display them at the party and then number each photo. Have paper and pens ready for your guests and then ask them to guess who is who. Everyone enjoys looking at old photos and it gets everyone chatting. You could have a child prize and an adult prize. If there are lots of guests you may want to split the photos onto the guests tables, otherwise it could take all night!

Another quiz type idea is to have questions about the anniversary couple on each table, a table could be a team if your guests want to be competitive. It helps to have the questions from all eras of the anniversary years so that everyone is involved. Ideas to start you off; Where did they meet? Where was their first date? Where did they live when they were first married? What was their first car? How many children/ grandchildren are there? Having the questions span many years will mean that the younger guests will need to be talking to the older ones.

A real teaser is to draw an outline map of the country that the anniversary couple live in and ask your guests to pinpoint important towns. The town where they were married, where they first lived. You get the idea, it is almost like an adult pin the tail on the donkey.

A treasure hunt gets everyone involved, try and find someone who is good at writing the clues or have them find certain things; 2 oak leaves, a small book, a football scarf. You could have everyone meet at a start point with the end point at the anniversary party. Make sure you don't lose anyone!

These type of games will keep everyone together but if you have a number of children at the party you may want to volunteer some older cousins to come up with some fun games for them. If you have young children then balloons to play with and some music works well, add an anniversary touch to traditional children's party games. Pin the cake topper on the cake (aka pin the tail on the donkey) or pass the parcel are easy ones to supervise.
