WarpTalk - TECHTALK - Episode 2 - Windows 7 being released this week

Posted Wednesday, October 21, 2009 (32 days 18 hours ago.) Viewed 68 times.

In this episode of TechTalk, WarpTalk's technology show, Bruce Horst, Danny Davids and Ben Morrish discuss Windows 7, which is being released this week.

Windows 7 has a redesigned task bar that promises to be sleeker and more intuitive than the current versions, and new ways for positioning and arranging your windows on screen.

Windows 7 is designed to make PCs start up, shut down, resume from standby, and respond faster. This would be great - my laptop with Vista takes a good 5 minutes to finish loading everything on startup, and a couple of minutes to shut down. My desktop PC takes more than 5 minutes to shut down!

It also has an automatic "homegroup" network function, which claims to automatically allow you to share photos (and presumably other media) to any other computers in your home, and allow all your home's computers access to your printer. All without you having to set it up!

WarpTalk - TECHTALK - Episode 1 - Ebooks, Ebook-readers and the future of publishing

Posted Tuesday, October 20, 2009 (33 days 3 hours ago.) Viewed 32 times.

The first of WarpTalk's "TechTalk" discussions, this episode is about the growing popularity of ebooks and ebook readers like Kindle, and the effects this will have on readers, writers and on the publishing industry.

Featuring Bruce Horst, Danny Davids and Connor Davidson.

Part 1 (of 3)

The discussion continues in Part 2 and concludes in Part 3.

Ben Morrish wasn't in the WarpTalk virtual studio for this episode, but he has one major problem with the current generation of ebook readers - they're not waterproof. If you have a habit of reading in the bath, then paper books are going to have to keep you going for a while yet!

If you've tried using an ebook reader, or even if you haven't, we'd love to hear your thoughts and opinions on ebooks, ebook readers and their potential impact on the publishing industry.

Post your comments below, or if you've got a lot to say on this then it'd be great to see you write an article about it!

WarpTalk Report - Google, Micropayments and the Future of the Web

Posted Saturday, October 10, 2009 (43 days 6 hours ago.) Viewed 56 times.

A report by Ben Morrish on the recent news from Google that they are soon to unveil a micropayment system based on Google Checkout, and the possible impact of such systems on the future of the web.

In this episode of WarpTalk Ben Morrish explores how this could change the internet and details how the system could work.

The main question you need to ask yourself is would you rather pay a small amount (something like 1/10 of a cent per page view) if it meant you did not have to see advertising on websites?

From a publishers perspective it seems great as they would be able to earn from every visitor rather than earning only from those select visitors who felt inclined to click on advertisements.

So, really it seems like the publishers could take a good revenue and improve the quality of their site by removing ads.

So what is your stance now?

WarpTalk Episode One - An Introduction To The WarpTalk Podcast

Posted Thursday, October 08, 2009 (45 days 2 hours ago.) Viewed 124 times.

Welcome to the first episode of WarpTalk, SearchWarp's new podcast series featuring Ben Morrish and Connor Davidson.

This episode is just an introduction,  explaining what WarpTalk is, and sharing some ideas about what we'd like to include in future episodes.

It's primarily an audio-only show at the moment, but presented in YouTube format for ease of access.

We're hoping to get as many SearchWarp members involved with WarpTalk as we can, so if you're interested being interviewed for the show you can apply through the form at http://searchwarp.com/podcast

Perhaps you'd like to contribute a report for the show, or maybe you have a topic you'd like to see discussed - whatever it is, be sure to let us know.

Podcasting is something new for everyone involved with WarpTalk, but with your help we think it will help make SearchWarp a richer experience for its members, and sometimes it might even give you the inspiration for a new article.

If you've got any ideas for WarpTalk, or comments you'd like to share, we'd love to hear your views!
