Good Housekeeping Pays Off

The way I see it, as long as I don’t trip over anything when I get up to go to the bathroom, my house is tidy. Okay, so I’m not Suzie Homemaker but I do enjoy some aspects of domestic engineering. Today I organized my recipe box. Don’t laugh – I had a motive. My husband and I had a little TIFF this morning and such mindless tasks help me cool off and put things in their proper perspective.

When all those sticky index cards were in perfect order - casseroles with casseroles and desserts with desserts- I dragged out my old Electrolux. That toothless wonder gobbles up those crumbs faster than Pacman and it felt so good having all that DIRT removed from my life, never to be seen again. “You really suck!" I shouted, as I yanked that heavy ankle biter through the house. It was exhilarating!

Normally, making beds is not my idea of Christmas but today I actually got a kick out of fluffing the pillows. That’s when I really put the gloves on. Pow! Right in the nose, over and over again till they puffed right up. I couldn’t wait to do the laundry. What a thrill, stuffing all those dirty things in my heavy duty thrashing machine, dumping powder on top and slamming down the lid. Churn, churn, churn… “Enjoy the ride, wise guy!"

Still reeling from that little power trip, I gathered up all the scatter rugs and beat them over the railing of the balcony. Whack! “Take that, you dirty rat!" Whack! It was glorious! Yes, at times like this, housework’s just what the doctor ordered. I’m even looking forward to the ironing. It’s a great way to let off steam and I can just imagine the sweet smell of my new Westinghouse Quickpress burning holes in Tom's favorite Ralph Lauren shirt…. Shhhhhhhhhuuuu! That’ll cheer me up.

Take it from me, folks, when you’re down with a case of the “relationship flu" housework can be your best friend. By the time my sweetheart comes to his senses and takes me out for dinner, I should be feeling a whole lot better. Either that or I’ll just be too darned tired to fight. Housework works for me!
