When you count your life’s rich blessings at Thanksgiving, do you remember to include those who fuel your financial well-being?

As we look at the cornucopia of people and things that enrich our lives, we readily give thanks for our families, dear friends, comfy homes and bountiful food. Reflecting on the origin of this holiday, we add our thanks for the freedom and democracy we enjoy.

Yet more often than not, we overlook those who help make our businesses thrive and our prosperous lifestyles possible -- our clients and customers.

It’s not too late to express your sincere gratitude for their business. In the remaining hours before Thanksgiving, do one of the following:

  • Pick up the phone and call your clients. Tell them how much you appreciate their business and wish them a joyful Thanksgiving holiday.
  • Email Thanksgiving cards to your clients with a personal note of thanks for their business.
  • Tell each customer who walks in the door or calls on the phone how much they mean to you.

If Thanksgiving slips by without your acknowledging your clients and customers, you still can express your gratitude. Just do one of the above suggestions with this twist. When you return to work after the holiday, phone, email or tell them in person: "Thanksgiving reminded me how much your business means to me. Thank you!"

These simple, sincere gestures help you connect with your clients and customers on a more meaningful level. And they remind you of the positive effect they have on your life.

Whether or not you manage to express your gratitude directly to your clients and customers, acknowledge them on Thanksgiving Day itself. Step out of the holiday festivities for a moment and silently give thanks for the livelihood they make possible for you. Silently expressed or vocalized, gratitude is powerful.

Once you’ve experienced how heart-warming and gratifying saying thank you is, make it a habit. You don’t need to wait until next Thanksgiving. Just say a simple, sincere thank you each and every time it feels right.

Thank you!
