If your house has an unfinished basement then you should utilize the area by completing it, keeping in mind the present space equation of your house.

A well-built basement can really become a valuable part of the house, which can be used in various ways; you can use it as the playroom for your children, as extended living room of your home, as a cozy music room, you can even install a bar or convert a section of your basement into bathroom.

In this venture you will be flooded with remodeling tips and ideas to finish your basement. But you should plan very carefully before implementing any idea in reality to complete your basement.

There is no doubt that finishing off an incomplete basement requires planning on a much smaller-scale. However, there are some basics, which you just cannot overlook to turn your basement into a cozy corner and make it a useful part of your dwelling. There are a thousand things, which you need to take care.

Notably the plumbing, insulation, waterproofing, proper air circulation and lighting of the room should be given top priority. Actually, without these essential cares your ideas for remodeling or finishing an unfinished basement are sure to become a flop. The condition of the basement floor is a crucial factor if you want to have an under-ground bath. Take care of the state of the drainage systems, water lines and plumbing works beneath the basement floor. Make sure that there is no problem in the waterproofing system of your basement. Apply two coats of brush-on cementation waterproofing compound and rest assured.

Now comes the proper project of insulation of the basement, which can be achieved by right construction of the sub floor, ceiling and, walls. As for floor there can be none better than vinyl tiles but it is a good idea to have a sub-floor in this area for support. Gear up the strength as well as look of the basement with decorative wall panels and suspended tile ceilings.

It is at this stage that you will need to do all the installing jobs to incorporate your ideas for remodeling or finishing an unfinished basement. Complete all electrical work, including installation of heating and cooling systems, etc. Install shelves if you are thinking of turning the basement into an underground study. Otherwise, introduce alarm wirings, telephone cables, etc. if you are thinking of using it as a home-office.

You should discuss your plans for your basement with a good interior designer or architect to make the utilization of your basement area maximum. This is the last stage of finishing your basement. Make sure that your basement dazzle with adequate light and basks in proper ventilation making your living more relaxed.

You can ensure the safety of your basement by setting up a carbon monoxide detector in your basement.
