All of my life, I've been educated with the true meaning of Christmas; which is the birth of Christ. Although we were among all the other children running to sit on Santa's lap and spill out our lists, in hopes to see him come through our "hand-made" chimney, we still knew that all gifts were blessings from a higher source.

I would rather instill in my children, and any children I interact with the true meaning of the Christmas Season. I want the youth to realize and understand that we celebrate Christmas with "gift-giving" because we received the greatest gift ever-Christ, which later became an even greater gift-Our Salvation!

I enjoy the holiday decorations and all the ambience that comes with the season, and I must admit that it makes me very warm inside and all teary..but I feel this warmth simply because I understand that this is the time of the year that a Savior was born, and I cannot help for being emotional, because I'm so very glad that our humanity received the greatest gift ever given!!!

And I pray that you and yours have a Blessful Holiday!!!

I enjoyed your article Ronyae, however I believe Jesus understands the children's joy and also their belief in santa during the season when everyones spirits are high. Jesus said - For of such is the kingdom of heaven. also - one must humble themselves as a little child to see the kingdom of heaven. I believe Jesus will enter their lives naturally as they get older.

hi ronyae (beautiful name)
you are the only other person in 52 years that thinks the way i did when my kids were growing up. my reasoning was two fold, 1) i heard a psychiatrist on Oprah say that when children find out (usually through their peers) that there is no santa claus, they are disillusioned by their parents lying to them for so long. and 2) it is jesus' birth, and i always focused on that, and although i allowed them to believe in santa, i didn't push it, or volunteer any info. instead, i have a tradition: when i put the manger out a few weeks before christmas, i don't put the baby jesus in the cradle, until after they went to sleep christmas eve, then, on christmas morning, we all went to see if jesus had been born, and said happy birthday before opening the presents. that seemed to appease my desire for them to put more thought into jesus' birth, than a fat man in red coming down the chimney (he would have never fit anyway) and i don't think that takes any child too long to figure out.

thanks for a good article,

my best,

sue thom

I totally agree, Sue! And I have a slight grin from the Santa statement. :)
