Are things getting a little out-of-hand in the garage or the basement? With everything that there is to do at this time of year, it is hard to find the time for BIG projects, but a one-minute cleaning project to improve home maintenance, is easy to do.
By keeping up with the small things, it will take less time to do the 'big' projects, because half of your work will already be finished. The problem that most of us have, is finding the time to do them.
Last week, I was going through some of my yearly rituals for this time of year and found out, that it really doesn't take long for a lot of the little things that need checking, especially if I do it in the small amount of time that I have to spare.

I started keeping track of how many jobs that I could finish in a set amount of time and how long it took me to accomplish them and guess what? I found a lot of one minute projects that I thought would be of interest to people!

Not only are they things that can be finished in one minute, but if some of them are overlooked, they could cost you a lot of time and money to repair the damage that can be caused by neglect.

Try these little one minute projects to keep your home, garage and out side equipment looking good and running smoothly.

Basement
Check the salt in the water conditioner
Check or replace the furnace filters
Sweep the floors and check for cracks
Clean cobwebs
Spray air freshener
Wipe doorknobs and switch plates

Garage
Sweep the floor and cobwebs
Check for leaks around the doors and windows
Clean the light bulbs
Wipe off the doorknobs and light switches
Pick up the tools from the workbench
Make a list of needed supplies
Look for leaks around the garage door

Outside the House
Check for loose caulking around windows and doors
Wash storm door windows
Sweep the walkways and steps
Check the gutters for leaks or loose pieces

Vehicle
Clean out the clutter and garbage
Check the oil
Check the anti-freeze
Wash the windows
Add a car freshener
Wipe the seats
Check the tires
Check the water in the radiator

Miscellaneous
Fill the birdfeeder
Check the smoke and carbon dioxide batteries
Drain water from the water heater to get rid of sediment
Make sure that pipes to the outside aren't frozen

Taking care of the small things for your home, can reduce the amount of time that you spend on normal home maintenance projects, giving you more time to do the things that you enjoy doing the most. Make a list as you go through your home, garage and outdoor areas of things that need your attention for when you have more time. This way you won't forget anything, will be able to get the items that you need for the job and always be in control of your surroundings and cleaning.
