Now is the time to begin planning your European vacation. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already been to Europe before or this is your first time. One city to seriously consider for your ideal European vacation is Freiburg, Germany.

Freiburg im Breisgau has existed for almost 900 years. Over the centuries it has grown into a shimmering mosaic of cultural and historical diversity. You’ll find Freiburg in the picturesque Black Forest region of southwest Germany. It’s a city that's home for people who flourish in cultural and educational enrichment. And our fair Freiburg attracts thousands of tourists seeking their own ‘perfect European vacation.’

You may be asking yourself what’s so special about Freiburg.

Well, after living here for several years I realise that it's difficult to pin down one thing. What enters my mind immediately is the following:

  • Beautiful, inspiring scenery in and around Freiburg - especially in the hills of the Black Forest.

  • The multi-cultural feel to the city center with it's international cuisine suiting all tastes.

  • Strolling Freiburg’s historical district with 500 year-old cobble-stone streets and buildings.

  • Enjoying a birds-eye view of the surrounding beauty from the Freiburg Minster Cathedral.

  • You can easily spend days visiting the museums in the city center.

  • And a tourist must-do is the Schauinsland hills cable car ride. Prepare to be awestruck for 20 minutes by the stunning Black Forest vistas.

  • Take fascinating day trips from Freiburg. We’re just 30 minutes from France and Switzerland, and an hour and a half from the Swiss Alps!

And it only took me a few minutes to write that list. Books have been written about Freiburg! Naturally it’s easy for me to think of everything a Freiburg vacation has to offer. After all, I've been living here. But tourists have only several weeks at most and those highlights can be easily missed.

You literally will not have time to do everything you’ll WANT to do here. Who knows, you may love it so much you’ll do what I did…move here.

If you’re considering a European vacation stop by and visit the friendly Freiburgers! It will be a vacation you’ll never forget.

Dave has been living in Freiburg, Germany since 2002. He immediately fell in love with the city and decided to permanently live there. Unfortunately, not a lot of information was available online in English regarding life in Freiburg so Dave set one up.
