It's not only male bodybuilders, male strippers, and athletics who are going for mens hair removal. More and more men are now opting for removing hair from their bodies. It is estimated that almost half of all laser hair removal clients are men.

Why the rush for men to remove the hair from their bodies? Many simply want a cleaner appearance. Others shave because they cannot grow a full beard (generally defined as an even density from cheeks to neck), because beard color is different from scalp hair color, or because it grows in many directions, making a groomed look difficult. Some men shave because their beards are very coarse, causing itchiness and irritation. Some men grow a beard from time to time to change their appearance.

Some men shave their heads, either as a fashion statement, to cover up male pattern baldness, or to attain enhanced cooling of the skull (particularly for people suffering from hyperhidrosis). Indeed, shaving, either with a wet razor or an electric shaver, is the traditional way most males remove their facial hair. But because males have such a large area to contend with, electrolysis really isn't a viable hair removal process.

For most men, the areas where they want to have hair removed are large ones; the back, chest, and perhaps the legs. With laser hair removal, these large areas can be done quickly and easily. The laser procedure combines the precise accuracy of shaving with the long lasting qualities of electrolysis, making it much easier to keep large areas smooth and free of unwanted hair.

However, laser hair removal is expensive, and men have resorted to the same methods that women use to rid themselves of unwanted hair, such as the use of chemical depilatories, waxing, sugaring, epilation devices, threading, intense pulsed light or electrology.

Is mens hair removal on the upswing? Probably not. While many men may opt for this new "fashion statement," most men will follow the dictates of society and continue to let their body hair grow.
