Putting video on the PSP is not as easy as it sounds. But with a quick step-by-step guide, you should get around to it and actually maybe understand what's happening. So here's the guide on just how exactly to do this.

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 1
You need a good memory stick, depending what type of length of video you want to watch. I encourage you to get a 512MB memmory stick.

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 2
Connect your PSP to your computer, via USB cable. Make sure your PSP is turned off when you do this.

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 3
Turn on your PSP, and go to the Settings Menu. In this menu select USB Connection and press X. Your computer should now detect your psp as an extra "removable drive". Your computer will assign a letter to this drive. Let's call it X:\ for future reference.

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 4
Go to this removable drive with your Windows Explorer. There is a folder called PSP there. Create a new folder called MP_ROOT at this level if it is not already created. (So you will have X:\MP_ROOT).
NOTE: DO NOT ERASE THE OTHER FOLDERS UNDER X:\PSP\ THEY SHOULD BE CALLED GAMES, MUSIC, SAVEDDATA AND PHOTO OR THE PSP FOLDER

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 5
In the MP_ROOT folder we just created (X:\MP_ROOT\), create a folder named 100MNV01 if it is not already present. You will get X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01.

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 6
You are going to have to take the videos you have, and convert them to mp4 format If they are not already in this format. To learn more about this you can visit my blog.

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 7
Copy the mp4 files to the folder we just created on the memory stick (X:\MP_ROOT\100MNV01\)

How To Put Videos On PSP Step 8
Go on your PSP. Go to Video. Select Memory Stick. And voilą!
You are now watching your video as wished!

Visit my blog for more great info on converting videos in mpeg-4 format.

Well Mr. Zachary, when I went to add my .mp4 video to the PSP following your steps, they turned out false. I had to the video into my "Video" folder. So you need to overlook your steps.

U NEED TO GET A PROGRAM THAT WIIL CONVERT UR DVDS INTO MP4 FORMAT, U CAN PROBABLY FIND IT AT ANY ELECTRONIC OR VIDEO GAME STORE. ND INSTEAD OF MAKING A MP_ROOT AND A 100MNV01 FILE JUST MAKE A FILE NAMED "VIDEO" AND PLACE YOUR VIDEOS IN THEIR.

I just purchased a PSP this month (2001 version) and had a little trouble getting this to work also. Here is how your directories should look on your duo card:

X:\PSP\... (This is the standard directory which comes on the system)
X:\VIDEO\MP_ROOT\... (This is where you place your MP4 formatted videos and this directory is on the same level as the "PSP" directory)
X:\MUSIC\MP_ROOT\... (This is where you can place your MP3 audio files for playback)

Be patient. It will work.

Hi all,the most straight forward way to get video on your psp is simply put a 'VIDEO' folder next to you psp folder,it's as simple as that,I'm running system software version 3.80 and works fine this way.

Anonymous (139 days 18 hours ago.)
It depends on your software version. newer PSP must use the VIDEO folder next to the PSP folder, not inside of it.

ZGSMaster from US (139 days 3 hours ago.)
Reader Rating: 3 out of 5
Users with system software version 3.80 just need to put a video in the "VIDEO" folder and it will work. the "VIDEO" folder needs to be outside the PSP folder. If u format the memory stick the "VIDEO" folder will be there. or u can just create a "VIDEO" folder next to the "PSP" folder.

Anonymous (138 days 6 hours ago.)

These steps are correct, he just missed a few vital things out. Along with the 100MNV01 file you also need to create another file named 100ANV01 for other types of MP4 files. Similarly, once you have put your MP4 movie or whatever in there you need to rename the file because the psp wont recognise fightclub.mp4 for example. I dont know at the minute exactly what you need to change the file names to, im looking through forums for it (its something similar like mnvg0000.mp4 or something like that).

Well, works for some and not others. I'm taking it? Others are probably placing the folders in the wrong area, or they have a different version of the PSP? {as far as I know} - this worked for me;

Open up your PSP via the card or USB connection. {USB connection} start up psp, connect USB cable to psp + computer - go to settings on the far left and select USB CONNECT. Ok, so assuming you have accompolished this... Next, simply write VIDEO next to the folder called PSP on the first folder in the (E:) drive 'card reading slot / PSP.

I'm wondering if the older models of PSP can play certain video formats? Anyway, if the guides haven't helped you so far, it's probably the video format you are trying to get to play? There's converters all over the internet so hopefully some of you can get some viewing'.

Peace

If you have a psp fat, you should download PSP Video 9, when you set it up it will create the folders you need on your PSP for you. If you have a PSP Slim, you can just create a folder called VIDEO on the memory stick and stick your MP4's in there, but you'll have to rename em with the M4V0001.MP4 malarkey. I have a fat and my roommate has a slim and we've been having this problem for a while. PSP Video usually changes the file name to M4V0001 for you, but as of late it hasn't so i've had to go into the folder where the converted videos are stored and changed them manually.

Basically its a pain in the A**E but keep playing about and you'll get it.

Chris Line from Norfolk UK (52 days 23 hours ago.)
Reader Rating: 3.5 out of 5
Yep, No problem. It DOES work, but you need to do things slightly differently. Once you have connected your PSP to your PC via the USB cable, simply create a folder called VIDEO next to the PSP folder (NOT in it) and put your mp4 video in there, renamed to M4V00001,2,3 etc, then go to VIDEO/Memory Stick and you're away!!

Anonymous (51 days 16 hours ago.)
how do u change the files into m4v0001??

Chris from Line (48 days 15 hours ago.)
Obviously, you need to convert your video to mp4 format before you can load it onto your PSP. There are plenty of applications out there that convert videos from one format to another, but I use dvdvideosoft. I am not allowed to include URLs on this forum, so you will have to Google it to find out where to download it. This is excellent software. Converting videos into mp4 format is only one of many things that this software will do. In answer to your question, when you load the original video into dvdvideosoft to convert it to mp4 it allows you to select where you want the mp4 output to be placed when it is complete (your Desktop for example). At that point you can rename what the converted video will be called to whatever you want.

PEOPLE FOLLOW THESE STEPS,MAKE A VIDEO FOLDER NEXT TO THE PSP FOLDER NOT IN IT.PUT MP4S THERE.IF YOU CANT SEE THEM UPDATE YOUR PSP TO CURRENT AND IT DOES WORK.NO MPROOT STUFF.

Luke from Philippines (22 days 20 hours ago.)
It does not work on the psp version 3.80 if it does not work on your psp your psp is this version. If you want to know what version is your psp go to "SETTINGS" and then go to "SYSTEM SETTINGS" then click "SYSTEM INFORMATION" then you will see what version is your psp.It sucks my psp is this version that's why I have no choice I have to buy expensive umd discs.
If your psp is lower than this version of 3.80 you can put videos on your psp
here's an online mp4 converter it works and it's for free online and it's legal. Search this in google "online video converter" then click if the result say MOVAVI.

hanne (11 days 10 hours ago.)
I worked for me. It didnt work to use the Video-folder, but i changed the name to M400001 or something. lmao somebody commented about renaming it. i dunno if you have to do it or not. i cant believe it's that hard to put videos on a psp. stupid sony! lol
