Yes, you are probably one too, a boomer, like millions of us that have retired or are almost ready to retire. We planned ahead. We made our dreams, but let’s face it, life and reality sometimes has a way of changing those plans. It’s amazing how fast you can spend money that you had not planned to spend: your childrens college, or that glamorous wedding for your daughter, or that unexpected surgery you had, or rising costs and the list goes on. The harsh reality is that the average Baby Boomer is retiring with a nest egg of only about $88,000 that they have saved. Many have worked very hard for 30 years to get to that golden day of retirement, to be able to enjoy life, to do the fun things you have always dreamed about doing. Today’s retiree’s typically worked major stressful jobs, working upwards of 60 to 80 hours a week. Those who worked in the high tech field of computers understood that working 60 to 80 hours a week was considered by some companies to be part time! Not only were the hours long and brutal, the traveling associated with many boomer jobs felt like a job in itself, with the heightened security issues that affected all boomer business travelers. Now you are faced with making some decisions for your 2nd career in retirement. Yes, work is a four letter word, but there are less hectic, less stressful career opportunities to make money in retirement. Everyone knows about “Joe" or “Dan" who work part time at the local hardware super store, or as a golf course attendant. Imagine a job where you could go to work every day in a fun environment, greeting customers who are seeking help in making their special someone’s birthday or anniversary party really memorable. Working in, or owning your own Party Store Franchise can be a very rewarding experience. With each person walking through your door, you get to assist people by helping them with suggestions for their special occasion. They are looking for items such as a bouquet of balloons, party favors, or ideas for their party theme. Usually, they are delighted and surprised at what is available to them. In turn, you have a loyal happy customer who will return again and again. This is a job that can be a lot of fun as a second career, or in retirement. Boomers are at the age now where they are having all kinds of celebrations for their children, weddings, and many other parties. If you are in need of some additional income in retirement, this may be just “What’s Next?" for you!
