“Anxiety disorder and panic attacks aren’t mental or physical illnesses. They are behavioral conditions, fueled solely by our own actions."
Shocking statement, but true according to Charles Linden, creator of The Linden Method, a natural anxiety relief treatment program.
This is probably contradictory to what you have already learned about your condition. For many years, anxiety disorder and panic attacks were blamed on a chemical imbalance in the brain. Charles conducted an extensive study into this misconception and his results proved that this is untrue.
The real culprit, he says, is a small gland in the brain called the Amygdala, which is responsible for triggering anxiety when needed. This is a basic instinct that works to ensure our survival when we feel threatened by an outside force or situation.
For anxiety and panic sufferers, however, this gland has somehow gotten stuck in the ‘on’ position. This causes the brain to repeatedly activate the anxiety when it is not required. This over-activation has become the new learned behavior.
Over time, this repeated activation has reset the gland to a much higher and more sensitive response rate than is required. The cure is to figure out how to turn it off again.
Charles has clearly done his homework. After interviewing respected members of the mental health community, psychologists, psychiatrists and even hospitalized patients he has discovered that ‘off’ switch. It involves retraining the Amygdala to revert to it’s original behavior and in turn, lessen it’s rate of response.
He points out that traditional methods using ‘talk therapy’ were designed to examine the cause of the anxiety (usually a life event) and then develop a series of exercises to resolve those issues. As it turns out, talk therapy isn’t the cure for uncontrolled anxiety and panic.
“The cause of anxiety disorders and panic attacks is not the ‘life event’ that created the stressful environment," Charles adds. “This is wrong. The actual cause is the way the Amygdala responded to that event and continues to produce anxiety and panic long after the event."
He explains that the problem lies in the way the original anxiety and panic are anticipated long after the stress-inducing event. He downplays the effectiveness of medications because they are targeted at the chemical imbalance which he’s already learned is not the cause of anxiety disorders, agoraphobia, post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
During his own treatments, he experienced “horrible withdrawal problems, rebound anxiety and extreme panic attacks" when he became dependent on Valium – one of many medications used to treat the condition.
At that time, he was having 8-10 panic attacks every day. His condition deteriorated to the point he became agoraphobic and unable to leave his own home. And he wasn’t alone in his condition.
It’s startling to learn that around 40 Million people in the US currently suffer from anxiety disorders, including panic attacks and phobias. There are many more worldwide. Today, his program has become one of the most highly respected treatments throughout the mental health industry. It is endorsed by psychologists and doctors who have put The Linden Method to the test and seen incredible results among their clients.
“Until recently, I thought that conventional therapy held all the answers. I don’t think that way any more. I help people get completely well now. Before, I felt like I was helping them to tread water," says psychologist Jenny Saunders.
The Linden Method approaches the matter in a conscientious and caring manner. Throughout the entire package, you are reminded of the concerned people behind it. From the comforting voice of Charles himself on the audio tapes to the written materials detailing the whole anxiety and panic condition, The Linden Method sets the positive environment for successful recovery.
The package consists of the Linden Method Manual, a Qi-Kung De-Stress video of relaxing and anxiety-defeating exercises and meditations, 6 audio tracks, and 1 year of free unlimited counseling support.
The support system he has in place provides that little extra that people often need while learning a new treatment program and while working towards a cure. This extra care is unusual in the world of anxiety treatment packages because many simply provide you with the tools with no backup help.

The article does not provide much information about the Linden Method. How does it work? What's so special about it?
The author should point out that the Linden Method shares many similarities with conventional Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Instead she gives the impression that the Linden Method is a new and unique approach to anxiety disorders. Respond to this comment

The article points out that many treatments are still pushing the incorrect cause of anxiety and panic, leaving many people to rely on drugs and ineffective therapies that just don't work. As an anxiety sufferer, I was told my condition was a chemical imbalance. Treatment focused on dealing with that imbalance. It took 5 years of drug and talk therapy for me to finally overcome those frightening attacks. In the end, it was something totally different that cured me - something that I discovered on my own and that Charles uses in his program. The Linden Method has set my beliefs straight, as I'm sure it will do for many other sufferers under the misconception I was under for so many years. Here, I've pointed out the general approach Charles takes. To learn in depth about the Linden Method, you can read my more complete review by following the above link in the article. Sylvia,
This article is an infomercial for the Linden Method. As the above comment mentioned, you have provided no strategies that are used by the method. Why the secret? As a nationally certified cognitive-behavioral therapist, I write extensively about how CBT can specifically and effectively assist those who suffer from anxiety and depressive disorders. Your assumption that there is no biochemical predisposition to anxiety and depression is without merit. Many people have been assisted by a combination of antidepressant medication along with CBT. Your secret plan is kept under wraps until the public purchases your product. In my opinion, there is no integrity in that. Respond to this comment

In the 70s the focus was more on the chemical imbalance. I was on talk therapy and medication for quite a few years and it did remove the majority of my symptoms, but it wasn't a cure. When I read that Charles utilizes CBT, I realized it as a technique I learned on my own. No, it's not a secret. It has to do with living through the attacks (a shift in thinking), rather than fighting them. I can't explain how it works. It just does. Charles shows his method for making it work, which takes a book. Respond to this comment

James,
Just wondering. Is CBT and antidepressants given to patients for free?

Beware of this product. If you need help from the company counselors, you will need to make long distance calls to England for help, unless you have email. If you are dissatisfied with the product, the company appears to be quick to take your money, but very slow, if ever, to return it. It's been two months, and they still haven't refunded the money to a friend. Perhaps they still will? Who knows. Best wishes to all who try it. Respond to this comment

I'm sorry to hear of your friend's situation. It's important to realize that to get a refund, the request must be made within a specific period of time. If you wait too long, you will not qualify for a refund as the guarantee period will have ended. Of course, you must be sure your request actually got to the right person and that you can prove your purchase. If the hard copy version was purchased, it must be returned to the vendor to get your refund. Respond to this comment

I agree that they are a rip off. A very expensive book to sit on the shelf. It's not a med free method he does tell you how to come off meds and alot of the information I have read before I got his program. The support sucks as they never answered my questions they would just tell me to read the manual again and again and again... sigh... Save your money Respond to this comment

Just got the Linden Method printed version in the mail yesterday. I'm still looking at it but I have to say that I don't see anything new or earthshaking here -- much of the manual is devoted to Charles Linden's personal life experience........
He suggests that anxiety can be quelled through "diversion" tactics such as turning music on loud or phoning a friend. Oh yes in the section related to insomnia he gives a glowing report on Chamomille tea (who would have thought) ---? There are numberous errors in grammar and spelling in the manual. Linden Method? What Linden Method? The company seems more geared to marketing the product than into solving anxiety problems. Oh yes--I need to give it some time and take another look---I will----but right now I would gladly trade the whole package for my 177 bucks. Respond to this comment
I can assure readers that the Linden Method involves more than drinking camomile tea and listening to loud music. Thousands of people have benefited from his treatment methods. As an ex-anxiety sufferer myself, I know his method works. Diversion might be too simple a term, but I know for a fact that the more you think about your anxiety and panic condition, the worse it will get. My therapist tried for years to distract me from my condition, but like many of you, my skepticism prevented it. Only by turning your attentions to the cure instead of the disorder can you get relief.
Building confidence is another vital element to recovery. In fact, I've written a book on exactly how important this is and how to achieve it. This book is available as a bonus to Linden Method. As with all programs, I understand there is often something missing. In my view, I've added that missing element with my book.
"There are numberous errors in grammar and spelling in the manual." That sentence is really ironic.
Jokes aside, I've been working with the manual for about a week, and feel the confidence to stop taking my medications. The grammar is distracting, and I hope that it gets edited at some point, but the principles are there. I would certainly recommend this to someone suffering from anxiety or phobias.

I've been scurrying around the net and managed to stumbled onto a similar product to Linden Method which is a version of panic attack as is named as panicaway by this guy Joe Barry. I wonder is there any similarities in term of method used and which is more effective cause I'm really confused. I hope to receive some sound advised from you. Thanks. Respond to this comment

I used the Linden Method and it worked. I never had to make any phone calls to Engalnd. I just emailed them and they replied the following day. I got replies every time I emailed them. When I was reading Charles' story, I feel like he understood. I know there are other people there that feel the same way. He has centers in many countries. When I talked to my dr about anxiety, she said "zoloft" and I said "the linden method" she said "ok". The dr said I should stop going to dental hygiene school because of my anxiety, charles said" no way, keep on going, do not give up because of your anxiety" so I did. School was a great diversion for me, and after 4-5 months, I can say I am almost anxiety free, no more chest pain, heartbeats, panic attacks are GONE, AND my insomnia is GONE w/o meds. Yes, I drink my chamomille tea and I think is miraculous. I sstill have a little bit more to overcome, but I am proud of mu archivements and to use all the linden method taught me.
Thank you for your comment. I'm so glad to hear that you are getting great results with The Linden Method. It's amazing that your doctor would recommend NOT going after your dream because of your anxiety. Many people would end up achieving nothing if they took that attitude. They would live their lives without ever enjoying the satisfactions and pleasure that life has awaiting for them. It's important to fight through the difficulties in order to reach our goals.
While I was working my way through Journalism School and at the tail end of my anxiety disorder, I had a major attack that had me scared out of my wits. I hid out in the student lounge, closed my eyes, and fell asleep from the exhaustion the fear had caused. I could have dropped out of the course but I was determined. To my surprise, I graduated a year later with honors and two writing awards. Since that last attack, and going after my dream regardless, I have not had another major attack like that. Yes, I still get minor anxiety when I face difficult times, but the anxiety no longer becomes as severe as it once did. I've learned how to turn to logic to escape those mini-attacks, and it always works.
I urge anyone who has dreams and who are reluctant because of their anxiety to force your way through the anxiety. You CAN succeed. Just as I and Vivian did. What's more, it's a fabulous feeling to win.
TOO SECRETIVE!....I'm a sceptic. And I am willing to pay a million dollars to get over this, and yet, I wouldn't put 200 dollars up for one simple reason, there is no details to the "secretive cure" anywhere in any description.
Skepticism is a healthy thing. It keeps you alert and protects you. It's not always possible to get all the facts before trying something new. You can only find out all that you can and then make your own decision on the product. What I can tell you is that I am a recovered anxiety sufferer. I went through the turmoil and fear that you and many others are experiencing. I struggled just as you have every day trying to figure out what was wrong and how to fix it.
You have to understand that whatever program you choose, 50% or more of your recovery is up to you. A program can only take you so far. In my case, my therapist took me as far as he could and then gave me the shocking news that he could do no more for me. The rest was up to me.
He did teach me some things about myself and why I was having panic attacks at every turn. He taught me that I needed to become more confident. I did that by deciding that I was going to take my anxiety by the horns and make it stop once and for all. Instead of trying to avoid the anxiety, I challenged it. You see, once you stop running and face your fears (the anxiety), the sooner you will take control of your life again. I agree it's not easy to do at first, but that is what must happen.
That's what the Linden Method teaches you. Charles does it with audios and a manual as well as 1 year of one-on-one counselling if you need it. I understand what he is teaching but it's not something I can spell out for you other than what I've already said. I've seen his program and I know that it takes you down the right path to recovery.
Also note that I no longer had anxiety when I discovered his program, but I did use some of the techniques he divulges. That's why I can tell you in all honesty that he knows what he's talking about.
Im a 23 year old male in UK suffering from anxiety and panic attacks. i refused meds from my GP as i have heard they are hard to get off, im strong and wanted to do this without medication.
I think the number of people who suffer in the world with this is staggering.
I think that selling the cure is wrong on so many levels. Will they only cure you're cancer if you pay for it? i think not, so why this?
Cancer cures cost money, too. Perhaps treatment will come through your health insurance, but there's still a cost. In our country, we pay into our government health insurance which in turn pays for our health needs. It is not free. If you need extra meds, it costs a lot of money. I was on meds for 3 years and they are NOT hard to get off. (And I paid for them out of my own pocket.) Your GP should know which are addictive and which are not and certainly can advise you on which is best for you. There's no need to suffer unnecessarily. Oh. Of course, you (or your employer or the government) will have to pay for your meds, just as they might pay for any therapy that you need. Sorry Anonymous... nothing is free.
People work hard to put together information to help people like you. They spend a great deal of time and money studying so they can help people like you. You don't feel they should get paid for all that work? Would YOU work for nothing? Boy. Wouldn't that be nice if we all just gave away all our work instead of getting paid. Why don't you talk to your employer about that? I'm sure he'd be more than happy to use you and not pay you.

I tried the Linden Method for several months, at first it seems like it works, but what you're really doing is following this strict set of rules and ultimately you end up running away from your anxious feelings which makes them stronger. A guy from England with no degree of any sort telling you "get off your medication with your doctors help" and "psychologist don't help anyone" (as his wife says in the dvd) is about as bad advice you can give someone with Anxiety. It basically says "if my method doesn't work, there's no help for you" He balls up every anxiety disorder into one cure "distract yourself" somehow by disctraction a rape victim will get over her fear of men, or a child abuse victim will become healthy again. Distraction can certain make a veteran stop having shell shock, just focus on some music or something.
Hey Bo. sound like you ain't doint it right. if it worked and then didnt, then it does work. sound like you give up. or maybe you just dont like to follow rules.
It is a shame we have to pay for these things, but in all fairness everyone has to pay for anything. Not much in this world is free.
