Not to long ago we had the wooden railings of our deck that needed painting.  Something that I couldn't put off for another year.

It was in the springtime when we picked up the dark colored stain, brushing away.  The brush was slow going especially having to go around all the corners and working in all the tight spots.  An hour passed, enjoying the sunshine, but really disliking the tedious, monotonous work.

Suddenly, like someone hit me over the head, I asked myself, what in the world am I doing?

I realized that I had a "Fuji Q3 HVLP spray painting system" sitting in my garage!  I used to use it often when I was doing Bathtub Refinishing.  It never even dawned on me to use it for spray painting the wooden railings on the deck.

Out came the paint sprayer turbine, the air hose and the and the hvlp spray gun.  Mixed some water with the paint and away I went spray painting away.

It became much more enjoyable, quicker and I didn't have to wait for the paint to dry before give it another coat!  When doing it with the brush, I had to wait until it was totally dry, otherwise the paint would be sticky.

Let me explain a few things for those about paint spraying.  When most people hear the word spray painting, they think of the conventional spray painting equipment that has a compressor with a hose going to the spray gun.   That is how it used to always be.  What would happen is the paint would shoot out of the gun, often around 45 to 65 psi (pounds per square inch) blasting the surface and bouncing off into the air.  It is estimated that only 1/3 of the paint stays on the surface while the other 2/3 gets blasted off the surface into the air creating lots of over-spray.

Now some of the HVLP Spray System can use a compressor and others use a turbine.   HVLP stands for High Volume Low Pressure which means it uses low pressure, under 10 psi and a high volume of air.  When spray painting using the HVLP sprayer, about 2/3 of the coating stays on the surface while about 1/3 goes into the air.  As much as 85% transfer efficiency can be expected.  This means that up to 85% of the coating stays on the surface, while the remaining 15% goes into the air, as over-spray.

This means that using a good HVLP paint sprayer for paint spraying, you can save money on the paint, because more of the coating stays on the surface and less goes into the air.

If you are thinking about spray painting you really should consider going with HVLP spray painting equipment.

Spray Painting with a good HVLP spray system will give you the perfect finish saving you money.  The Fuji Spray HVLP spray system is currently considered one of the best value for your money giving you an excellent finish with very little over-spray.  Visit www.otsm.com for more information
