Well I have been writing to many issues and it seems no matter where I turn I run into the same thing as the title portrays. Along with the $720.00 brake job that was supposed to be $99.00 and the $1100.00 water pump that normally is under $300.00 I now have a tire problem. My response is no, its just more of human nature.
I know what you’re going to say, it’s that cloud that keeps following me. Well that may be so or I just may be the only one of a few who does something to bring it to the public's attention?
Example; I purchased a used car from a well-known local professed high-class dealer. Although they stated they check all their cars for safety, etc, they never checked the car out and let us take it home. Needless to say that it had many safety problems to the point it placed us in jeopardy. They admitted they never inspected the car and we have factual proof.
However, the first time I brought it back they gave me the standard run around and told me in basic terms to get lost. I stated I would call the President of the company and they said, “we don’t care and neither does he". You see I was a low-income average sale, what yhey want is the check kind.
So I called and got a gentleman in the executive office who came with me to the dealer and got everything repaired. It did cost me something but I felt that was a fair amount. So as part of the deal they placed new tires on the car. Yes brand new tires. And needless to say I was real happy at that time.
However, here we are 9000 miles later and one tire is bald, one is 80% gone and the others in the rear over 60% gone. I do around town driving and maintain the car every three months, oil, air pressure etc.
So I take the car to a local tire dealer who inspects them and says there is no mechanical problem this looks like wear but he does not deal with warranties on that particular brand. Take it back to where you got them and they should be able to help.
Now I take it to the car dealer who says he never heard of the tires being the problem. So after talking awhile he gauged it, took pictures and I even had him compare to a brand new set that just happened to be sitting adjacent to my car. [Thank you Lord]. He says he will get back to me. Do you believe that one?
Now I call the manufacturer of the tire. They tell me to take it to their warranty place. I do and a person with magic eyes tells me that there is a mechanical problem. So when I advise him I’ve been other places he says well it may not be mechanical, you were racing the car. Ok, a Buick SUV with child seats in the rear.
He then says he doesn't know what to do, take it back to the dealer you got the tires from. So I went to the next place. He says that it’s not the car and the tires have a problem.
So I now call the dealer who never called me back and he says bring it in and we will inspect it. Isn’t it strange that now that they know I have a bumper-to-bumper mileage warranty they want to inspect it when just the other day they were saying the car is fine? You must know I have to pay a $100.00 deductible, they get paid from my contract and you know what I’ll most likely have to pay a pro rated amount for the new tires.
So I placed them on hold and called back the manufacturer. They say there is no mileage guarantee with any tire from any manufacturer and certainly not theirs but they are willing to look at a good faith solution.
Rhetorically, just what is good faith in a world with no faith? But I said to them that you state in all your advertising that the tire is rated at 70,000 miles 540 A B tires and you get a premium price for them. They never told me if I get 1 mile or 5,000 miles - tough. But let me make this clear when you buy your next tires ask this question.
You are selling me tires that you claim will go 70,000 miles are they warranted for that by the manufacturer and if he says yes, then have him write it on the bill of sale, he won't.
They will reiterate the rating. Then tell them I don’t need the rating I need to know if the manufacturer warranties those tires for the miles they state they will go given everything is equal and they are advertising as?
You see it is all-dependent on conditions, how you drive, the roads you ride on, rotations, etc, etc, etc. Now lets assume you have a situation like mine. Also, no one stands behind what they claim the tire is wear rated at and as they say in the movies “and that’s a fact jack"!
Yes, you get to pay for the rubber used and buy replacements. Now that’s not to say they fail and your injured. Have you ever heard about that happening?
So finally I find out the manufacturer will give me the same tire and I pay for 50%. 50% of what do I get? What it cost the dealer which is way less then I paid! Now isn’t that a kick in the butt? Needless to say, why would anyone want the same tire?
Oh, I can but 4 different tires of their manufactured brand and pay for 50% of their recommended retail price. But the bottom line in I must pay for the same type of “rated tire" over $500.00 and with the same warranty as the ones I have. Now here is the sad part. They are telling me the rating of these new tires. WHY? That makes no difference!
Yes, and all of this is under the watchful eye of our government. Just like Pet Food, our Food, health issues Illegal Immigration and everything else.
Yes, one could go on and on but it is one more confirmation that “ Making Money has no allegiance to anything but making more money" and that is proven more and more each day as fact! .
