Ok, so just what I am alluding to? Well the differences in humans. You see if we turn everyone inside out and start fresh no one would know the difference. We humans select and chose by choice. Those choices are made and nurtured through education, religion, culture, friends, family, story, fable, tale, lies, deceit, ignorance and a host of multiple reasons. But the bottom line is we are all the same except in color and our individual beliefs.
You see the majority of us profess we believe in a loving God. We also say we follow His beliefs. Well do you?
What do I mean by that? Well when I see a man like Tony Dungy, all I see is a man. He is an American man and his faith, while Christian, believes somewhat differently then I but he is a good man, an honorable man, and a family man and a believer in Christ. When I look at Jackie Robinson I see the same. A man of integrity, honor, character and who was better then some of my own race? I’m positive you can list quite a few more of your own race.
So what about Arabs and Muslims and our own American Indians? Can we find men of courage and conviction of honor, truth, family and character? Yes, most certainly. The fact is there are good and decent people in every race, color or creed while it is most certain there are unfortunately many of hate.
So why do we hate? We hate because we are taught to hate. It is as simple and pure as that. We are not born to hate we develop hate.
I can tell you this when growing up in N.J. I was a Wop. The kid across the street was a Mick and the black kid a “Melanzane". You stayed with your own. You see when something bad happened the first thing was the racial slur. “Stay away from that Wop". They’re all bad. Now the first real contact I had with blacks was in high school. They had names for us and we for them. You see it really was a culture of racism because everyone fostered it. However, as we made connections and friendships the barriers broke down. We could see their human side and vice versa. Hey they weren’t what I thought they were, they were just like me in many ways.
However, there was still a fear of the unknown because of what you heard since a small child. Don’t go into their neighborhoods they drink and curse and rob. Italians were all in the Mafia and the Irish were just troublemakers and brawlers. I’m sorry to say old feelings die-hard and they are still being passed along.
You know it is like the Christian who professes a belief in Jesus but hates you because you worship differently. You’re going to hell, not them. They forgot the main teaching of our Lord LOVE.
So what helped the situation? Well it wasn’t government programs because in my opinion that fostered more hate. You see forcing people to love and writing law to force does not accomplish that in my opinion. No it was a man named King who brought about an awareness of hate in America. It was a Mother Theresa in India. In fact I was amazed at the bigotry in the nation. It really was beyond my comprehension and scary. In fact to this day right here in Florida the Civil war is still being fought in some area's. To those who say no let them search their heart.
Now as I grew I noticed that whenever people mix they always split into groups. It is not as much with the younger generation as it is with the older. I venture today that is still happening? Be it church, school or business we still feel comfortable with our own. You see in my opinion many of us still haven’t come to the realization that we are all human.
We all say and do things from the mouth that hurt. We all do and that is a fact. Be a rich man, poor man, black, white, yellow or whatever, we all fail at times. In fact we are quick to remind our children when something happens “see I warned you’. You blame the color of the person not the facts. That is why we must learn to apologize and accept forgiveness.
That is why God says Love your neighbor and if you wrong them go to them and ask their forgiveness and when a person does that we are to accept and move on. We are not to hold hate for whomever does not give mercy will not receive mercy. We choose that path not God, because he will not accept hatred if He is the God you say of love. Hate and Love are two opposites in every way and definition.
We are also to understand that if we promote or ignore or tolerate foul language, the deeds and the actions of hate and all the associated negatives then we are as guilty as those who do the deed. We should never foster hatred and we should teach that respect is earned not something to be demanded. Nor are we entitled by nature of age, race, religion, sex or whatever to receive respect. However, we will extend that because of our humbleness and meekness to those who we should and by nature of our love we give respect and because we follow the words of those we profess to believe in.
The Imus incident is an example of the hatred in society and the hypocrisy that in my opinion still permeates it. And it is still causing division in opinions and actions. Instead of learning we have created a conflict of division. It is nothing more then just plain fact.
Well in my opinion there is so much hatred among the races and religions that until good and just men take control acceptance of each other will never happen. Until, people of Character like Dr. King and his like join together the hidden lies of hatred will fester and they will be passed from generation to generation.
In my opinion because I have suffered division in my own family and until we truly become who we say we are, until we foster responsibility and respect for everyone and we practice that which we are fast to wear in symbols of gold or silver around our neck for show, nothing will ever change.
Here is the real challenge to you Pastors, Rabbi’s, Muslim leaders, politicians and people of power who profess LOVE as the basis of their faith and all of us. It is not in filling the pews in number but it is about filling the pews with believers and people who live their faith. Until we all start to live our faith as we profess it and join together in Love and work toward that end with our families, congregations and all peoples, in my opinion it just will never be. It is a fool’s goal.
Yes, it can start this very day. It starts at conception and birth and is continued in the home and is nurtured at church, in school and in society. It starts with understanding bad is bad no matter who does the deed and it must not be tolerated simply because a person is of any one race, culture or professed creed.
It starts with a decent job, hope, security and awareness of our self worth. Until you erase the causes you will never erase the hate. As long as there are haves and have-not’s you will have war, conflict, hate and crime. It is simple and as pure as that. It all starts in the home that in my opinion is the foundation for a society with love.
So we can write, we can debate, we can discuss and we can talk all we want but change takes action. Hate in my opinion will end when unemployment, exploitation, low wages, no benefits and excessive greed and profits end. It will end when responsibility and respect flourish in the home and the good teachings and not the bad are professed and natured to our young and not before. Hate will end when humbleness and meekness arrive.
Please, take that message with you to church Sunday, your Mosque, your Synagogue or where ever you worship and on whatever day and ask your God if that is what He wants you to do? Or in my opinion just don’t bother to go because you know something if you think it can‘t be done then you have no faith in Him. He already knows your heart and we have already chosen your reward.

Mr. Melaccio, I like this article, you kind of summed it all up in the beginning when you said “You see if we turn everyone inside out, and start fresh no one would know the difference” that’s what people should do is look at a person’s insides (the heart) I do believe they are all the same color aren’t they?
