Endometriosis back pain is one of the many painful symptoms that can be associated with endometriosis. The pain can be crippling and can hamper your quality of life and the ability to function normally.

If you are currently suffering from extreme lower back pain that starts a few days before and extends into the first half of your period, you there is a possibility that you may be suffering from endometriosis related back pain.

What is endometriosis?

The uterus contains endometrial glands that thicken the uterus lining each month to prepare for pregnancy.

Usually, these glands are exclusive to the womb because they are directly influenced and nourished by the female hormone estrogen. But due to still unknown reasons, in some women, endometrial tissues grow and develop in other parts of the body.

Such tissues can grow on other organs in the pelvic region and also in the abdomen cavity, but they it can also grow in many other parts of the body.

One of the common symptoms of endometriosis is pain in the lower back a few days before menstruation.

This pain can extend from the back, through the buttock cheeks and down along the back of either leg (or both). The sciatic nerve can be effected by endometriosis, which contributes to this pain.

There are a number of measures and medications that could help you alleviate the pain and discomfort brought about by endometriosis.

Endometriosis back pain is generally treated in the same way as pain caused by Endo in other areas of the body.

At the onset of back pain, pain relievers can provide immediate and short-term comfort. But because of the frequency and severity of back pain relating to endometriosis finding a longer term remedy is advisable.

One treatment that can provide relief from endometriosis symptoms is the use of birth control pills.

Birth control pills regulate or lower the estrogen levels found in the blood. So, regular intake ensures estrogen levels are kept to a minimum.

This is vital for endometriosis sufferers, as it is the increase in estrogen that causes the endometriosis symptoms. By suppressing the production of estrogen, the endometrial tissue does not receive the instructions to thicken in preparation for pregnancy, therefore they are less likely to shed and bleed.

Surgery can offer the endometriosis sufferer relief, as this targets the endometrial deposits and attempts to remove adhesions caused by a build up of scarring.

Laporoscopty is the usual form of surgery for treating endometriosis. It is a keyhole surgery procedure, which minimizes healing time.

However, it is really important to choose a surgeon with previous endometriosis experience as the procedure can be quite complicated and results do vary.

Hysterectomy or surgical removal of the uterus and ovaries, although drastic, can provide a long-term solution. When the ovaries are removed, it removes the body’s major estrogen source, therefore largely reducing the risk of shedding or bleeding of the endometrial tissues.

However, it is important to note that there are documented cases of endometriosis returning after a hysterectomy, so ensure you discuss this option with your doctor carefully.

In the same way, natural menopause can be a long-term remedy. Thus, some women readily embrace the onset of menopause because it often results in relief for endometriosis and endometriosis back pain.
