An overview of the many different aspects of body, mind and consciousness and how they interact with the world around us
If you put an EEG (electroencephalograph) on your head you can measure the electrical activity of the brain. But science teaches us that electricity has two aspects: the flow of energy, and the field that surrounds it. The flow is our thoughts and the field is our consciousness.
In the same way our thoughts have two aspects. Our physical bodies are made of layers of energy and this energy forms a field not unlike magnetism.
This field, which is also a little like static electricity, surrounds our physical body in the form of an aura. There are many layers to the aura, which reflect the finer layers of our physical body.
We think of ourselves as a whole person but, in reality, we are made of lots of individual parts: bones, organs, nerves, skin etc.
But each part is made of cells; the cells are made of molecules; and, in turn, the molecules are made of atoms. These atoms are made of fine particles, which come out of and go back into an underlying field of neutral energy – "potential energy" or "vacuum".
The energy comes out in the form of a wave of light, which flows until it hits something, and then it changes from a wave into a particle and an antiparticle. This is where duality is born: positive and negative, up and down, left and right, and all the other pairs of opposites.
Our consciousness is created from all these layers of energy. The sum total of all the layers forms our conscious mind. The flow of energy within this gives us thoughts. These thoughts again can be on many levels and form links between levels.
But what we mainly experience is that, when we drop down, say, to the cellular level or the molecular level, these thoughts turn more into feelings. It is still consciousness, but we experience it in a different way to thoughts in the mind.
Also, the body is seventy per cent water, and the flow of energy though this is experienced as our emotions.
I hope you are getting a picture of the interconnected nature of the body, mind and consciousness. The physical body is surrounded and permeated by the aura – or electromagnetic field – as described in what follows.
