Author and translator Dr. David Petersen has released a new guidebook targeting English-language readers looking to improve their skills by reading “media English" online.

Auckland , New Zealand – April 26, 2007 Dr. David Petersen has announced the launch of “Reading English News on the Internet: A Guide to Connectors, Verbs, Expression, and Vocabulary for the ESL Student". Intended as a classroom resource, the guidebook is equally suitable for anyone with internet access wishing to improve their reading skills.

The idea for the book came while working as a translator with an agency in Japan . “As one of the few native speakers at the company, I ended up fielding many questions about news articles and other “media English". I soon realized that conventional dictionaries are simply not set up for referencing everyday idioms and expressions. And they lack internet vocabulary. Creating a better resource, and gearing it specifically to the online reading experience, is what resulted in this book."

“Reading English News" covers nearly 200 connectors, phrasal verbs, idiomatic verb phrases, and everyday expressions. There are tips on reading news, sports, and finance articles online, and students can test themselves with mini-quizzes and a final exam. A second bilingual Japanese-English edition is also available, geared to Japanese ESL learners.

About the author:

David Petersen has a B.Sc. in psychology, a Ph.D, an international teaching certificate, and more than a decade of experience in the ESL classroom. He has taught English in Japan , South Korea , and Hungary , and has participated extensively in curriculum design. He works as an author and translator, and his articles have been featured in a number of international publications. His latest book, "Reading English News on the Internet: A Guide to Connectors, Verbs, Expression, and Vocabulary for the ESL Student" is available from http://www.lulu.com/lang-arts and through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Powell's Books, and other major vendors.
