Tonsil stones can create a condition known as Halitosis, which is a stubborn bad breath and taste disorder many people suffer from.

Tonsil stones, also called tonsilloliths, are those nasty whitish/yellow colored, foul-smelling, lumps on your tonsils. These tonsil stones are caused by an accumulation of sulfur-producing bacteria and debris that becomes lodged in the tonsils. This debris, which includes mucous from post nasal drip, putrifies in the back of your throat, and collects in what are called the tonsil crypts. These tonsil crypts are small divots or pockets which appear on the surface of the tonsils, in which the tonsil stones may accumulate.

When this debris combines with volatile sulfur compounds (VSC's) which are produced by the anaerobic bacteria beneath the surface of your tongue, along with the tonsil stones, you develop the condition known as Halitosis, more commonly known as bad breath!

Now, if you do not have your tonsils, then you will NOT (except for rare exceptions) experience tonsil stones. However, I am NOT saying that you should run out and get your tonsils removed. As we get older, tonsillectomies become increasingly dangerous. Aside from that, even if you have your tonsils removed, you will most likely still have bad breath. Why is that?

The sulfur producing bacteria breeding beneath the surface of your tongue, integral to the creation of those tonsil stones, are the most likely candidates to cause bad breath! So, even if you have your tonsils removed, unless you remove or hinder those anaerobic bad breath causing bacteria, your friends may still exhibit those tell-tale signs that you have bad breath!

Fortunately, getting rid of tonsil stones without surgery, is not that difficult...

There are a few select products that I recommend you use that will effectively eliminate tonsil stones without unnecessary surgery. What you need is something that will neutralize the anaerobic sulfur-producing bacteria on contact. For this I recommend a simple combination of AktivOxigen Tablets, Nasal Sinus Drops, and an occasional use of an Oxygenating Spray (http://www.therabreath.com/docs/tonsilstones.asp).

Keep in mind that following a regimen of using oxygenating oral care products, like toothpastes and mouthwashes, along with a tongue scraper, which effectively neutralizes the anaerobic bad breath causing bacteria from the very back of the tongue, will produce optimal results - stopping tonsil stones from ever forming again! Based on clinical tests conducted at the California Breath Clinics located in San Francisco and Los Angeles, most people following this formula reported a significant reduction or complete elimination of tonsil stones.

I find it disturbing that you prey on those of us who are looking for a non-surgical cure by trying to sell overly-priced junk. One of your links is to anbook that says those products don't work, while the other link sells you that stuff..shame!

Find something else to sell, if it were that easy to cure this problem no one would ever have bad breath. My best friend purchased some of the products and was never cured.

I HAVE BEEN GETTING THESE HORRIBLE DISGUSTING TONSIL STONES CONTINUOUSLY FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.I HAVE ALWAYS HAD BAD BREATH.I KNOW WHEN I HAVE A BUILD UP OF THEM AS I GET A HORRIBLE TASTE COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY THROAT. MY PARENTS BROUGHT ME TO THE DOCTOR AS A CHILD ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS ONLY TO BE TOLD TO AVOID GIVING ME DAIRY PRODUCTS!! NOW IM 34 AND AM SEEING A SPECIALIST AND AM GETTING MY TONSILS OUT. I HAVE CONTINUOUS SEPTIC THROATS WHICH ARE VERY PAINFUL.THESE STONES ARE STUCK IN BOTH MY TONSILS BUT MOSTLY THE LEFT!!WHEN I COUGH OR SNEEZE THEY JUST POP OUT, IT CAN BE VERY EMBARRASSING.THE SMELL OF THEM IS VILE AND DISGUSTING. THEY ARE QUITE LARGE AND I CAN HAVE UP TO 3-4 OF THEM COMING FROM THE BACK OF MY THROAT ON A VERY REGULAR BASIS.I FIND THAT WHEN EATING SPICY FOODS CONTAINING GARLIC, IT APPEARS THAT I AM PLAGUED WITH THEM. HOPEFULLY WHEN MY TONSILS ARE REMOVED ALL THE PAIN WILL BE MOST CERTAINLY WORTH IT. I CAN'T SPEAK TO ANYONE UNLESS I HAVE A CHEWING GUM IN MY MOUTH. I WILL HAVE A NEW LEASE OF LIFE WHEN THEY ARE REMOVED!! IF ANYONE HAS HAD THEIR TONSILS OUT BECAUSE OF TONSIL STONES, WOULD YOU RECOMMEND IT???????

I had my tonsils removed in my early 20's when I began getting these terrible stones. And unfortunately I still get them and I'm now in my mid 30's. I find I get more when my allergies are acting up in the spring and fall. So removing your tonsils may not be a sure cure.

ahhh...I've had them since I was a pre-teen after mono, I use 6" cotton tipped applicators every morning to search and poke them out. Now I'm 31. I really noticed them in my mid 20's, and by 28 I had them every week until now. Make sure you brush, floss and mouthwash before sleeping!! Check daily in the mirror with a flashlite. Look for whiter areas of the pink tonsils, and press. I have had them bleed upon removal only on my left side, but it does heal in a day. I also get a tiny bit of blood in my right nostril when i blow my nose sometimes. Since I probe every day now, sometimes only yellowish fluid releases, and often it takes two days to get all of them out. I'm extra juicy, I have a runny nose while exercising. I buy a case of the q-tips with wooden shaft from medical supply stores, a box of 1,000-10,000 non sterile case, and I use about 20/day, discarded in tissue. I spent many hundreds and thousands of dollars on a waterpik and mouthwashes, and the best toothbrushes, tongue scrapers, sonicare, cosmetic dentistry, pharmacys. Plus I like to watch my diet. When I didn't look for them in my 20's I got alot of sore throats, at least one "cold" or sinus infection every month, I would caugh up mucous. I thought it was an allegy to sugar, mostly high fructos corn syrup, if i ate excessive junk or desserts... Then I thought it was tobacco second hand smoke, then I adopted out my 3 lovely cats, and well... I don't get sick now that I pick them out, but I have stones on both sides every month. Diet definately affects it! I know for a fact because I ate a sweet cereal dry, and the next morning the clumps from the top part was the cereal honey smell... notice how beer or soda gives you a pasty yeasty tongue... well it factors in.... also if i eat green salad, they are greener yellow, if i eat subway bread or ice cream, they are white. I was scared I had an std... got tested at the health department... thanks to a story about a 4yr old girl having them I doubt that it is a cause. I am paranoid about bad breath, I floss and brush 15 minutes after eating, I chew gum, I talk out away from someone, I also notice how many people touch their nose... well, I feel gross about it, but the body is very sophisticated, and although I rarely kiss even my fiance... (I do recommend everybody use flavored condoms for oral just in case)... I'm not a medical professional, but my bf mentioned urinary track infections... antibiotics, probiotics... all unknown results... in the meantime, I pray and laugh it off, I'm going to get health insurance and go to my dentists and ent. Also I practice yoga, the nasal breathing techniques help, I rarely get sick when I practice often, I usually wake up with a stuffy nose, and can't breath out of one side often... well, happy oral hygiene and god bless!!! At least now I'm not alone in this condition.

I get the tonsil turds only once in a while. EVERY TIME it is due to eating at fast food chains, Highly processed snacks or other unnatural foods. One person claimed that garlic and spicy foods caused his. THAT"S propabaly because its RESTRAUNT food.
Bottom line: the tonsil turds are due to defiled, rancid or morbid food. USUALY restraunt or highly processed foods. I have proven this to myself 100's of times over the last 40 years.

that's not necessarily true. I'm a health nut, a vegetarian and an avid vegetable eater. i never eat fast food and i still get tonsil stones. i guess it all depends on your own bodies; i'm going to try oxygenating toothpaste and mouthwash and see if it helps at all. it sucks too because i really want to kiss this boy and i feel like i can't because my breath is so disgusting.

(sorry for my bad english...im italian) Hi, i have resolved the problem building a pipe who sprays water directly to my tonsils. the pressure is not high, to avoid to damage the tonsils, i have connected this pipe to the tap of my bathroom and i can regulate the amount of water that go to my tonsils. At the beginning was a bit difficult because is not simple to control the stimulus to vomit, but after few times, i learned to control it, and now im able to wash all my tonsils when i want. I repeat this 1 time a day or 1 time each 2 days and i have seen that tonsil stones after i removed the first times, are not anymore in my troath. My breath has not anymore a bad smell, but to prevent bad breath is also important to wash the thongue when you wash your teeth. This is what i do to eliminate bad breath: wash teeth 3 times a day, use dental floss 1 time a day, wash tongue after i wash teeth and 3 times a week i wash my tonsil with the pipe ( the first times i have washed them every day, until they was clean). I hope it will help u, bye, Frank.

Hey Frank, thanks for your tip. I'll give it a shot sometime!
I've had tonsil stones ever since childhood. The two things that have changed in recent times are 1) I learned that they were tonsil stones and were a cause of bad breath and 2) I've learned a trick to remove them, which I will elaborate upon. This isn't a fool proof method so don't get your hopes high. Use the following steps:
1) You need to learn to use suction over your tonsils (similar to the suction that allows you to draw mucus through your nasal track).
2) Bend down and turn your head sideways, in the direction in which you have your tonsil stone and then use suction. For instance, if you have a tonsil olith on the right tonsil, bend down and turn your head to the righ and try suction. Sounds strange but it works. Bending over gets gravity on your side. As for turning to the side, I discovered that purely by trial and error. Hope that helps!

Best,
Pete
