September 6, 2005 (Las Vegas, Nevada)
If it is true that the future looks bright if the beginning starts with a bang, then Las Vegas Nevada’s hottest new rap group Da Future should be well on their way. The three member group of underage rappers known throughout the valley as Dizzy, Young D and K.J. were awarded the title and trophy for “Best Hip Hop Group" at the 2005 Las Vegas Music Awards, which was held in Las Vegas this past Saturday, September 3, 2005 at the Horn Theatre.
“This was our first nomination and we won, how blessed is that" said Young D backstage after the group received the award. Before learning of their winning the group hit the stage to an anxiously awaiting crowd of screaming fans, as people in the audience (both young and old) rose to their feet and danced around for an explosive performance full of energy to say the very least. Their six minute performance included two songs “Who We Be" which was like an introduction of each member to the crowd as each member came on stage when their name was said in the song. They followed up “Who We Be" with “No Name" which is the highly anticipated debut single scheduled for release in January 2006 on the independent label FAME Wright Records. During the last part of the “No Name" song a guy came from “out of nowhere" and started throwing neatly tied t-shirts out into the crowd as the audience went wild trying to catch the shirts which were white and said “No Name" on the front and “Da Future is coming soon and there is no way you can STOP it" on the back. It was later discovered that the t-shirts also had a color flyer promoting the group’s nomination, which is now like a souvenir considering they won in their category.
Management for the group has been busy since the awards show as the group impressed many members of the media that were on hand to witness the performance of the next group to hit the national scene from Las Vegas since the lovely ladies of 702. Katrenia Wright, the group’s manager said she has been on the phone scheduling interviews with several entertainment papers for the group to appear in upcoming issues after they rocked the stage and took home the title as the “best hip-hop group" in Las Vegas.
What’s next for the Da Future you ask? Well, they head back into the studio at the end of the month to finish recording their debut album, which is scheduled for release sometime in April of next year. In October they will begin the actual publicity and promotions for the new single, which is being handled by Steve Manning out of New York, known to most as the spokesman for Michael Jackson. The group will be attending several awards shows in the near future as they begin their public appearances and promotions. In addition to the awards show over the weekend, management also held a private Meet & Greet for the group at the Luxor Hotel on the following day after the awards. The private party was held in the Royal Chambers of the Queen Nefertiti’s Suite in the hotel’s pyramid. In attendance at the event were many entertainment professionals among them were Kel Mitchell of the popular show “Dance 360" whom just landed a role on UPN’s hit show One on One. Kel is known for his long time career on Nickelodeon, as he was one half of the “Kenan and Kel Show" and “All That." Could Kel Mitchell have something in the works with Da Future… only time will tell say’s the groups’ manager. Also in attendance at the party was Jazz of the famed R&B group Dru Hill. Jazz has a new single out and he could definitely give some advice to the newcomers about show biz. Jamal Williams, who also won an award at the LVMA’s was also in attendance. Pete Allman of the Las Vegas Tribune came through and showed the group some love and Anthwon Moore of Nuborn Clothing was on hand showing his continued support as he is currently wardrobing the group with his hot line of clothing for their public appearances. Look for the group to perform again next year at the LVMA’s said Andre Banks, the show’s Executive Director, who was also on hand at the party. Well, I guess the t-shirts they threw out during their performance say’s it all “Da Future is coming soon and there is no way you can STOP it."
