Preventing panic attacks before they start is the ideal you should be striving for. Whilst you may not reach this ideal state when you next experience a panic attack, putting the following suggestions into practice will start you on the right track.

Panic attacks don't just leap out of thin air. They are triggered by something. Often your panic attacks are deep rooted and if you are to stand the best chance of stopping your panic attacks, you will need to delve down to find their root cause.

One of the best ways to reduce panic attacks is to become a calmer person. Practicing a simple relaxation technique on a daily basis will put you on track to becoming a calmer, more relaxed person.

A simple way that you can implement anywhere is to use a breathing technique. Take a few minutes to concentrate on your breathing. Notice the air as it fills your lungs. Focus on the feeling you experience as you slowly breathe out. Take a deep breath. Breathe in until your lungs are full, then hold the air for a second or so before you slowly exhale. Repeat this exercise 5 times. You will be amazed at how much calmer you feel. This technique has the added bonus that, unless you are a really noisy breather, no-one around you need know what you are doing.

Next time you start to have a panic attack, go back to your relaxed state. Breathe into the relaxed state if necessary. You'll find yourself calming down and the severity of the panic attack should be lessened.

The other thing you can do to help stop panic attacks before they start is to read up on them. Explore the internet or your local bookshop. Part of the problem with panic attacks is that they invoke a fear of the unknown. The more you learn about them, the less unknown they become. This in itself will start to reduce the fear you used to experience.

Don't be afraid to seek help. There are plenty of people around you who will be prepared to help you to lessen your panic attacks if only you ask them. They could be friends and family or they could be professionals such as doctors or alternative therapy consultants. Any of these resources are available to you. Make the best use of them and again you'll find that your panic attacks start to diminish.
